Weekend Waterview: Fall’s Last Hurrah and Arrangement

Happy Weekend, I hope you’re tucked away warm and cozy! Like most of the US, it’s chilly here with temperatures dipping into down the 20s before the weekend is over.

We had a blustery and wet start to our week, but it ended on a ‘Welcome-to-Fall-at-its-Finest’ note.

I took some time to play in the leaves yesterday, enjoying the sunshine and brilliant colors . . .

And gathering the pumpkins for their last hurrah. . .*sniff*

I cut the last of the hydrangeas before they’re frost-nipped this weekend.

Fall is my favorite season and has been late to arrive in North Carolina this year.

But yesterday was a ‘nothing could be finer than to be in Carolina in the morning’ kind of day.

Perfect for playing with the leaves, pumpkins and hydrangeas, for their last hurrah!

I used chicken wire in the base of an urn to support the branches of leaves for an easy fall ‘last hurrah’ arrangement.

Endless summer hydrangeas have taken on a purple hue and to pair with purple-tinted foliage of the sweetgum tree.

And our silver maple tree by the water is just starting take on a golden glow.

I used bamboo skewers to add mini pumpkins to the arrangement. The chicken wire supports the weight of the pumpkins tucked in among the foliage.

I love this time of year when the steam fog rises off the water in the morning.

I really enjoyed looking at the pictures. Thanks for sharing all of them. I live in the Houston area and the best fall foliage we get is from the Chinese Tallow Trees! We hate those things! LOL

What kind of camera do you have? Your pictures are just beautiful. You may have said that somewhere and I missed it.

Beautiful pictures. Fall is a wonderful time of year. We live on a lake in North GA. The leaves were late turning and rapidly falling. What lake in NC do you live on? I’m sure I’ve read it in previous posts, but can’t remember. Your photography is beautiful and love the Scripture and inspirational thoughts. This world needs more. Love your Blog!

Mary, the last of the fall leaves always makes me a little sad, it is my favorite season. Autumn made a late entry in Alabama, also! Your views are so pretty and the arrangement is gorgeous! Have a joy-filled weekend!

Beautiful fall day you’ve captured! We are very much in time with your weather and current conditions, Mary. We had a hard freeze last night, and it’s another gorgeous morning (deceiving though by just viewing out the window). Leaves are falling non-stop, and my maple and sassafras should be near naked by the end of the day. Your arrangement is beautiful. Happy weekend.

Very pretty Mary, enjoy the last of autumn! And yep, I’m sitting here with the wood stove blazing all snuggled up in my Eagles sweatshirt… Happy Weekend:@)

Your photos are beautiful and inspiring, as always! The leaves are showering down like snowflakes on this cold morning in Clemson, SC. We only had a few short days of fall color here this year. We have a 3 acre pond in our front yard, and it feels magical to watch the geese and ducks through the morning fog.

My most fave image of yours…from the very first time I read your blog even, yrs and yrs ago, will always be the shot from behind your wooden chairs looking out into the lake!! Just gives me the warmest feelings of perfect lazy days appreciating life!
***sigh*** thanks for reminding me to stop this morning and be thankful!

  15. November 11, 2017 at 10:14 am

Thank you for the exquisite view of fall! In So. CA, our fall is far less dramatic: a slight nip in the air in the morning (meaning 60 degrees!), so it is fun to be reminded of the falls I experienced in NY where I was raised! Beautiful photos!

Gorgeous photos and gorgeous view!!! Fall came late her in Ohio too, just last weekend we had peak foliage. I don’t mind the lateness though because it’s all downhill from here :)

  18. November 11, 2017 at 10:55 am

Just gorgeous photos and arrangement. Our weather is very cold yesterday and today, 20 when I woke up this morning. I am surrounded by Santa’s as I sit here. I got a very early start decorating for a very good reason. Have a beautiful weekend.

  19. November 11, 2017 at 12:11 pm

So gorgeous Mary! The purple hydrangeas with the orange pumpkins take my breath away! It was 38 in Bham this morning, stunning sunshine and raining leaves like confetti~

What a send-off for the last hurrah of Fall. I envy these gorgeous colors that frame your lakeside view. Every beautiful russet hue, each gnarled stem on those pumpkins and gourds, all pulled together in one heart stopping vignette. Sheer beauty for my soul!

    Love your pictures and ideas.
I am so excited every time I open my emails and you pop up! We have a small house on a lake on the plateau out of Crossville and this time of year it is beautiful. Last weekend was the peak for fall
Color. Since then the rain has taken a lot of leaves down. It is a beautiful Saturday here. Hopefully we will be back here for a family fun Thanksgiving. Thank you for your wonderful and thoughtful blog!

Thanks for sharing your beauty with us, Mary! It’s not nearly that pretty here in Texas, but I’m thankful that the days are cooler. Happy weekend to you!

Dreamy photos that capture autumn in the South. I love fog, myself. We got up to 60 degrees today, and I really should have pulled up the dead/dying annuals and planted pansies. Instead I ate pancakes — lots of calories and no exertion is a guilty pleasure.🥞☕️

You make the best of what is left of fall. I left it behind in Maine, and there are few hints of it in Houston except for pleasant weather.

Mary such a beautiful arrangement, thanks for always inspiring us to make the world a more beautiful place with whatever is available. We packed up our sailboat, left North Carolina and are on the way to our winter location in Stuart, FL. I hope you feel flattered when we follow your lead because I recently had two pillows made and embroidered with the boat name “At Last” and another with your motto “Home is Where the Boat Is” because it has become our motto as well. Thanks ⛵️

What beautiful pictures Mary. Love the urn, pumpkin, leaves, – fall arrangement. Very cold here too, had a nice fire going last night and gobbled up the spice-pumpkin muffins, which were oh so good! Five stars! I will be making a double batch next time for sure! Happy Veteran’s Day and thanks to all who serve/ served.

P.s. oops, the muffins were the very delicious pecan-pie muffins! Sorry, called them the wrong name in my earlier comment. THEY ARE WONDERFUL!!

So glad they were a hit Cyndi! Enjoy your Sunday 🍁🍂🌾

You are an amazing photographer – one picture after another I gasped in delight….this post is full of true eye candy – oh God’s splendor, are we not blessed for views like these?

    Have a wonderful week! : – )

  34. November 13, 2017 at 7:23 pm

It is always so sad to see the season of Fall go gently into the night making way for colder days and giving Mother Nature a time to rest after the bounties of the previous seasons…the beautiful flowers, the harvest, the brilliant colors of celebration…I so enjoy the lake views…I so miss that…I so miss the Cranes and Herons take flight over the water.

  35. November 14, 2017 at 1:37 am

What a beautiful photos!!! You live in a gorgeous place Mary, with splendid water views. 😊

  36. November 14, 2017 at 11:29 am

Really gorgeous. Enjoyed this so much more than a lot of the paler, simpler presentations that seem to be prevalent this season. More is more is my motto! Keep up your style!

I’m enjoying your glorius Fall pictures, we are still green here, with the leaves dropping because of heavy freeze. Crazy year, but I love all your pumpkins and vegetables….and flowers…just glorious! Thank-you!
