I’m sending Thanksgiving greetings your way and at the table with American flags for a patriotic nod to this American holiday.
I’ve always loved vintage postcards! Millions of postcards were printed, imported, sold and mailed in the U.S. during the years of 1905 – 1915, known as “The Golden Age of Postcards”. According to official U.S. Post Office figures for the year ending June 30, 1908, approximately seven hundred million postcards had been mailed in this country, with that number increasing to over nine hundred million by 1913.
Postcards with patriotic symbols and flags gained popularity prior and during World War I.
I loved this charming image of a boy riding a turkey and waving a flag! I found these images at the Graphics Fairy, available for download for a Patriotic Thanksgiving table.
Napkins are folded to mimic a turkey fantail.
For best results, choose a fabric napkin that has some ‘body’ to help the fantail hold its shape. You can find the easy tutorial and how to create your turkey fantail napkins, here.
Pumpkins, leaves, and nuts parade down the table for a casual and easy Thanksgiving centerpiece.
And a pair of boys in Navy uniforms carry American flags, parading with a proud Tom turkey in a basket.
A plaid tablecloth provides a warm palette of pumpkin and brown for the table.
White embossed turkey plates are layered on Victorian English Pottery Turkey by Edward Challinor has an acorn and oak leaf border.
An ear of Indian corn at each place setting adds a harvest note. . .
And colorful foil-wrapped chocolate turkeys at each place setting provide a Thanksgiving treat.
Yesterday was a beautiful, sunny autumn day and perfectly warm on the porch but this morning is downright frosty!

Just love this post! I too have always enjoyed old postcards and vintage Valentines, there is just something about the sweet graphics that are so precious! By the way, the Pumpkin French Toast with Streusel Topping is in the oven as I write, excited to try this dish. Blessings to you and your family on this wonderful Thanksgiving week. We are thankful to the Lord for hubby surviving the stroke he suffered last Thanksgiving day. He is doing well. 😊

Oh Mary, I absolutely LOVE this patriotic themed Thanksgiving! Especially this year, it is so perfect-honoring the past, saluting our history and love of country. The vintage postcards are so cute, I just love the colorful happy art. The way you have incorporated the good old red white and blue with your brown transferware and brown checked turkey fan fold napkins is so brilliant and attractive. Mary, this is absolutely the best Thanksgiving table yet. The flag theme is definitely one that touches my heart, and I’m off to get copies of those wonderful patriotic Thanksgiving cards. We are not hosting Thanksgiving this year as we usually do, but I’m filing away this idea for next year. The postcard images are charming and set the mood for gratitude and thanksgiving for our country. This idea is definitely going to be copied at our home even if we don’t host. I love vintage postcards (thank you for the link-my granddaughter & I will print some for the table!) and thank you for the great video…I learned a couple new things! Thanksgiving is my most favorite holiday and my husband & I celebrate our wedding anniversary on Nov 25th! Have never seen the patriotic Thanksgiving postcards before! Great finds! I actually (over several years) collected Memorial/Decoration Day pre-WW1 postcards. Had them framed in special postcard frames I purchased, and had them surrounding my bathroom large mirror. (my bathroom in previous house was very patriotic red/white/blue. Thanks for showing the cards – Loved them!

I love vintage, too, and often print vintage postcards to put on my pencil tree. We keep it up year round and decorate it for holidays, seasons, and different events.
