Merry Motoring Whimsical Christmas Tablescape

‘Tis the Season to deck the halls, as well as the table and I’m joining a group of bloggers for a Christmas Tablescape Blog Hop!

Look for the links at the bottom of this post for more holiday and Christmas table inspiration this week through Friday, December 8th.

I’m mad for plaid anytime of year, but especially at Christmas with the holiday cheer it brings to the table! A Gretchen Tartan Plaid tablecloth and napkins by Ralph Lauren motored home with me from HomeGoods back in October.

DSC_4776.1-002

Santa travels by car rather than sleigh to our house, and we have an assortment of Santamobile ornaments collected over the years that hang on the tree.

They motored to the table to pair with tartan for a Christmas tablescape and a little whimsy.

Tartan plaid plates are layered on a red beaded placemats to add a little sparkle for the holiday season. .  .

A Fitz and Floyd Santa Car Cookie Jar leads the parade down the table for a centerpiece.

The Santamobile cookie jar is from my retail days and was purchased wholesale 15+ years ago. I looked on eBay to see if I could date it and whoa . . .what a price tag it has now, Santa won’t be serving cookies from it anymore!

Car ornaments are piled with packages motoring down the center of the table. . .

And some are hauling the Christmas tree home with a trunk loaded down with packages.

And some look as festive from the back as they do the front . . . I ❤️🌲

I alternated two different tartan plaid pattern napkins for the table. . . the more plaid the merrier!

In lieu of napkin rings, napkins are tied with gold cord and a mini plaid ornament found at Hobby Lobby this season.

Gold cord and red mercury glass votives add a little holiday glow to the ornaments tucked in down the length of the table on either side of the Santamobile cookie jar.

Such an inviting table for your guests to enjoy. Everything is just lovely and it won’t matter at all what you serve, no one will notice with all the wonderful touches you have there. Great collection of the Radko ornaments…love it all…thanks for sharing…

Wow, Mary! Your Fitz and Floyd Santa cookie jar is something! As are your Radko Santa car collection of ornaments. They all make me smile!
I love your plaid tablecloth and napkins with fresh greenery showcasing your whimsical Santa mobiles. Your red goblets and beaded chargers ground your table beautifully. Fun collage of ornaments. Your photos are so clear, crisp and delightful.

What a great display of all the ornaments and that cookie jar – wow! I always get so excited with your tablescapes, Mary. They truly delight and inspire me. Love all the plaids, and the chargers are the perfect amount of sparkle – without being glitter (I can handle sequins)! Using a collection of ornaments like that is a really good idea, otherwise they seem to get lost on the tree. Just like in the garden – en masse makes a great impact. Happy you’re on this blog hop motorcade. :)

All your ornaments are precious and using them on the tablescape is a great idea. So festive.

Oh Mary….you have done it yet again….your days in retail have benefited you well as you have the most inspirational tablescapes of anyone anywhere. Your cookie jar is amazing and your idea of using your automobile ornaments on the table is brilliant. The thought that goes into each and every one of your tablescapes make my head spin, yet you pull if off with ease. I never have the time to really search for such unique items. I agree with Nancy, your photography is amazing. I would need to hire a few extra hands, to accomplish what comes naturally with you. Amazing!. Merry Christmas sweet lady! It is always a pleasure to blog hop with you.

  12. December 4, 2017 at 9:23 am

What an adorable idea, Santa parade! I have a Santa ornament with him riding a motorcycle. Love your cookie jar, the perfect centerpiece! Somehow I knew your tablescape would be in plaid, LOL!!

  13. December 4, 2017 at 9:30 am

You may remember I’m crazy for whimsy so your table suits me to a T. You must always have your eyes open for those special little things with which to create.

Mary, I am such a kid at heart and live to add whimsy and your table is no doubt one that is held special to my heart. I love the Santa in the car which is crammed full of presents, reindeer and things. Something so out of the ordinary and I love that! And, of course, who can’t swoon over plaid of various kinds. I love your motto….the more plaid the merrier it is! The ornaments are gorgeous and so colorful as Radko ornaments usually are. The real greenery really makes such a difference. So beautifully and whimsically done. I am happy to have joined you too on this Monday for this blog hop celebration. I always enjoy your postings. Please have a joyous Christmas and many blessings to you and your family.

Living near the “Motor City”, I salute you and your fun table with Santa motoring all over in your collection of cars and trucks! Michiganders LOVE a good car show! Lol What a unique idea Mary. Your idea has sparked one in me for a winter scene using my Snowbabies, which are usually tucked away safe in the curio cabinet. Love the plaid ornaments with the gold cording instead of napkin rings. I already mentioned that I love anything Fitz and Floyd and so happy for you that it has really increased in value. The fresh greenery is awesome and I’m so glad I didn’t trim my holly bushes this summer as I am getting cuttings now. I am taking your Cha Cha Chicken Salad to a ladies gathering tonight, I know it will be a hit. Thanks Mary, you are my encyclopedia for inspiration and great recipes!

Oh my goodness Mary, I love all your motoring Santas!! They are all so darn cute. Yes, I’d guess you’d better be extra careful with your Fitz and Floyd cookie jar. The tartan plaids are fabulous and make for such a merry mix!!

Fantastic table, your red and green tartan just exemplifies Christmas and the Christopher Radco autos rolling down the table heading to Grandma’s makes it perfect. Tomorrow is a shopping day for grandchildren and maybe some tartan plates for me. Might even look for cute ornaments for my Christmas guests. Thanks for sending us in the right direction.

Mary, Your table is wonderful, the Santa mobile is the perfect centerpiece. The detail of the gifts and toys is just amazing, and just isn’t found in today’s offerings. I am delighted that one of the items I “predicted” for your holiday tables has made an appearance. I was guessing the RL plaid tablecloths might find their way to your table. Even though I have too many tablecloths, I purchased both the plaids when I spotted them in Home Goods. I couldn’t decide which color I liked better so, of course, I bought both. I am now eager to see more of your tables to see if any of my other “predictions” were accurate. MM

  29. December 4, 2017 at 9:10 pm

I absolutely love all the beautiful plaids! And those Santas…perfection! Thank you for sharing your beautiful holiday table!

  30. December 4, 2017 at 9:21 pm

You never cease to amaze me, Mary! This truly is brilliant! I would never have thought to collect Santas in cars as ornaments. The cookie jar is gorgeous, I love anything F and F!!!! Thanks for another treat!!!

The Cha Cha Chicken Salad was very tasty and several asked for the recipe so thank you! Once again we have another “keeper” and it’s going in a binder of “Mary’s Recipes -HIWTBI”, to join the several others that I have tried. I do think it’s time you put a cookbook together with all the lovely pictures of these delicious dishes! 😊

  32. December 5, 2017 at 1:12 am

What a fantastically fun Christmas tablescape! Of course, the cookie-jar centerpiece is unique and one to be cherished (especially with what you found out on the price nowadays) and you’ve complemented it perfectly with the wonderful ornaments. Love the plaid tablecloth, the beaded chargers and the terrific plates and stemware. As always, your photography captures all the glorious details and I can picture sitting down to a meal at this awesome table. So enjoyed my stop here on the Blog Hop!

  33. December 5, 2017 at 2:44 am

Mary, your Santamobiles are amazing! Very fun and original tablescape, in my home it could be a perfect children table: even if my son and his cousins maybe would prefer that Santa drive a Ferrari 😊

  34. December 5, 2017 at 5:22 am

This may be your best tablescape yet! For sure, the most fun one!! Those car ornaments are so adorable. Have you just always collected them on yr to yr basis? And are they still available? LOVE!

    • December 5, 2017 at 5:48 am

Hi Janey! We’ve collected them for about 20 years. They retired but Radko introduces new ones every year :)

    Hello,

I am really wanting to purchase your “Fitz and Floyd Signature Santa Car Cookie Jar”. In January/2019, my grandmother’s house had a leak. During all the chaos of “where to put everything”, it appears her prized Fitz and Floyd Santa Car Cookie Jar was taken. There were so many people in and out of the house—large noisy fans to dry out—it was a mess! She is still so upset about her Santa Car Cookie Jar. DO YOU KNOW WHERE I CAN BUY ONE FOR HER? I REALLY WANT TO MAKE HER HAPPY BECAUSE SHE HAD IT FOR SO LONG; BOUGHT IT NEW! Please send email if you have lead on used one. Thank you.

    • September 5, 2019 at 5:17 am

Hi, There’s a smaller music box version on Amazon. You might want to save a search on eBay to be notified for the original cookie jar if one pops up.
