Celebrate the Red, White and Blue: Stars and Stripes Ball Jars

DSC_5822.1

Memorial Day is three weeks away. . .a day to wave the flag, salute the stars and stripes and celebrate the Red, White and Blue!

In celebration, I’m sharing some Stars & Stripe Ball Jar love with a little giveaway!

DSC_5862.2

The Stars and Stripes Keepsake Ball Jars are new for 2018. In addition to the classic Ball logo, they feature a Stars and Stripes embossment, adding a patriotic touch to your canning, storage, beverage, and décor creations, ideal for family picnics for the Fourth of July and Memorial Day!

Ball Jars have been made in USA since 1884, another thing to celebrate!

DSC_5834.1

To celebrate the Red, White and Blue, I put together a little patriotic vignette on a window shelf in the Potting Shed. Bachelor Buttons and Oxeye Daisies are growing free for-the-picking in the field beside it, so I added some to the jars. I cut the first of the Knock Out Roses and the last of the Bridal Wreath Spirea, along with some Penstemon for some red, white and blue bouquets. They’re joining some red, white and Liberty blue transferware.

DSC_5802.1

Liberty Blue dinnerware was created by Enoch Wedgwood Company, in the historic Staffordshire district of England. It was designed on behalf of Benjamin Franklin Federal Savings and Loan, as a promotional item in commemoration of the company’s 50th anniversary in 1975, and in celebration of the American Bicentennial in 1976.

Fifteen different historic scenes from the American colonial period were used on the Liberty Blue dinnerware. The dinner plates feature Independence Hall, in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, where both the United States Declaration of Independence and the United States Constitution were debated and adopted.

You can see them at a Patriotic Table with Red, White and Liberty Blue, HERE.

Good Morning, Mary. I simply can’t get over your flowers in bloom! That’s an arrangement I won’t be able to make for nearly another month, but I sure love seeing it now. Love the arrangements of both the flowers and plates. And what a generous person you are! Have a great week.

Ball jars are in constant use in our home. Being of service as holders, ie q-tips, jar salads, flower arrangements, and most often used to deliver “goodies”, be it soup, leftovers or pudding to shut ins in our town of Odessa, DE.
Thanks for the chance to win but mostly for letting me know this special jar is available.
Thanks for an honest USA made product!

    May 7, 2018 at 8:12 am

Lovely display as always. I use jars for flowers also but my favorite use is for picnics in or out of the house. When my friend was recovering from surgery and bored at home but not ready to go out yet, I invited a small group of our friends to her house for an indoor picnic lunch. I carried over small muffulettas, a bag of chips, a jar of pickles and used jars for pasta salad and for dessert. We had a great time and there was nothing at her house to clean up afterward. I packed up my jars and took them home.

Great post today! Love your Liberty Blue plate! I am a follower who would use the bell jars as part of my summer centerpiece I keep on my dining table: I would wrap red, white and blue ribbons around it and fill with summer flowers. Thanks for the chance of a giveaway.

  43. May 7, 2018 at 9:31 am

Once again, a beautiful tribe to America! For me, lately I have admired all the scrumious desserts that have been made in Ball Mason Jars. Yes, I admire them on line, but once I get to the store, I’m always too frugal to purchase. If I was lucky enough to win, I’d share the American spirit by making homemade strawberry ice cream with my elderly neighbors during Memorial Day and honoring the ones that served for us. In addition, I’d enjoy some ice cream with my hubby while sitting on the patio! :)

  44. May 7, 2018 at 9:41 am

Love your bouquets of flowers in the ball jars, Mary, and your pretty red, white, and blue dishes! I love seeing your shutters adorned with a change of pretty plates through the seasons. Thank you for the opportunity to win the jars, and for Lynn in telling you about them.

Good morning Mary! I love the Memorial Day ideas. I especially love the dishes with the Ball jars. Please enter me in the contest. I am subscribed to your blog and follow you on Pinterest. I pinned several pictures to my Patriotic Decorating Ideas board. I would use the jars Memorial Day and the 4th of July. I think wrapping silverware with a patriotic napkin, tied with ribbon and inserted into the Ball jars would be a great way to use the jars on the porch. Then once at the table, remove the wrapped silverware, pour the iced tea or lemonade and enjoy! After the holidays, I would use the jars for kitchen storage & display. Ball jars and vintage Corning Ware are my best friends! I grew up canning with Ball jars so they invoke wonderful memories of my grandma, Mama, and I canning delicious veggies for winter use. As I had the smallest hands, one of my jobs was to wash the Ball jars before they were steralized. Now we have dishwashers that do this task (thank goodness) but they won’t produce the same childhood memories of 3 generations in the kitchen interacting and the tricks & tips of canning & cooking I learned along the way! I am sure though the children of today will have their own special memories as traditions are tweaked but still passed down. These sweet memories last a lifetime and encourage tasty homemade food, lovely tablescapes and making more memories for future generations. Memorial Day is a time of remembrance for sacrifices on behalf of our country. Thanks to all military veterans & their families past and present. We live in a great nation. Wishing you a wonderful day! Clara 😃

Mary, I saw the heading for this post and thought, “red, white and blue?” and then I read that Memorial Day was only 3 weeks away and wondered where the days are going. Wow, I am just adjusting to spring and it will be over before I can enjoy. But, every day is such a gift.

I certainly need more containers like I need a “hole in my head”, but I would use these jars for flowers. I think they are perfect for those summer picnic style tables. If I could find them, I would include cornflowers or bachelor buttons in my bouquet because they are some of my favorites.

    Thanks, MM

Where did you find these? I want to buy a set for myself. Having recently received the wonderful garden gift from you, I don’t need to be included in this patriotic giveaway. I’m loving my garden apron, trowel with my pretty cup and saucer and special tea,

I was going to attache a picture but I guess I can’t. I made red white and blue drinks a few years ago in canning jars. If you layer them correctly- heaviest sugar content on the bottom, then you can keep the colors separated and they look really neat with a stripe of each color in the glass layered up.

Mary, I bought a pontoon boat last year; I really think I should blame you for that. I also purchased lots of red and blue accessories- dishes, pillows, towels, etc for it. I think I am blaming that on you also! The only thing I haven’t done is adopt a bichon (yet)! I would use the jars mostly for drinks. Thanks so much for inspiring us all!

What a lovely red, white and blue potting shed presentation! The Liberty blue transferware is one of my loves that I hope to acquire one day to mix with my blue and white collection of dishes! They are so patriotic! And yes, the ball jars, Stars and Stripes keepsake collectibles would make the perfect drinkware with cute red, white and blue straws for my Screen Porch patriotic dinner! Yes! That is exactly how I would use them!!! I can just see them now!!! What an addition to my table they would be!!! Happy Monday, Mary!

Mary, If I were one of the lucky winners of a set of the patriotic mason jars, I would use them as a container for a homemade treat, such as your popcorn/candy/peanuts/melting candy recipe and then tie a red, white and blue ribbon around the lid. I think they would “dress” up a family get-together table for Memorial Day. Thank you for all of the historical information along with your photos, very inspiring.

You have such a great “eye” for decorating and I love the blending of all the red, white and blues of your dinnerware mixing and contrasting with the stars and stripes of “Old Glory!”
I “need” (; a collection of patriotic Ball jars and would use them to make jar desserts for Mwemorial Day,our annual 4th of July get-together, and Labor Day.
