Anyone Can Be A Gardener: Garden Hose Wreath for the Potting Shed

DSC_5165.1

Happy Wednesday! I’m spending most of my free time weeding, watering and puttering around the Potting Shed. I decided my shed front door was in need of a fresh and updated blooming wreath!

DSC_5237.1-006

I dismantled my Garden Hose Wreath with Blooming Wellies last year to use the tools and the wellies. I decided the bright green colored hose was a little too vibrant for late summer, so I picked up a 15 foot hose in a more muted shade of green for $8 from Lowes.

This is a quick and easy project for your shed door, fence, gate, or nook on the porch where you want to plant some garden charm! For quick and easy assembly, coil your hose to desired size and use cable ties to secure it.

Cable ties are one of the greatest things ever invented IMHO and are available in various colors and strengths. They’re inexpensive, hold things securely and can be removed later.

Gather your materials for your wreath. Let your creativity bloom. . .plant your garden hose wreath with small pots, seed packets, tools or anything that says ‘garden’ to you. If you want to be extra fancy, add some ribbon to embellish your wreath.

I chose some vintage garden tools. . .a pair of old rake heads, gloves, Wellies, a watering can and a sweet little roosting pocket. The roosting pocket is designed to the give birds shelter in cold, wet and windy weather, but I’ve only used it decoratively.

I had an old hose nozzle that I added to lend some vintage charm to the hose wreath.

The wellies and the gloves both had tabs on the back that I ran the cable ties through to secure them. The wellies are hanging from the teeth of one of the rake heads.

A well-used pair of vintage garden clippers hangs at top. The clippers have a space between the blades and the handle to slip it over the wreath hanger to secure them.

I placed plastic cups inside the wellies filled with water as vases for Limelight Hydrangeas that are blooming.

“Anyone can be a gardener. It’s simply a matter of choice.”

“On the day you find yourself fretting about the first frost~

Or ruminating about rhododendron color,

The day you say to yourself, ‘I’m a gardener’–

You are One.”

“You need no degrees or doctorates.

No accumulations of blue ribbons at a prestigious Iris competition.”

“No title bestowed by an intimidating gardening society.

No personnel official to declare, ‘You’re in.’

Nor any special knowledge of pH factors or compost heaps.”

“What is essential is training your vision to see beyond what’s already there;

Having enough strength to haul around a garden cart filled with fifty-pound bags;

And money, because you can’t start planting without any plants. . .”

~ Dianne Benson, Dirt

Anyone, truly can be a gardener with Limelight Hydrangeas!

You’ll be rewarded  with both beautiful cut and dried flowers when you plant these easy to grow, low maintenance shrubs in your garden:

Public Service Annoucement: Plant a Limelight Hydrangea…or Five

I’ve been stalking butterflies with my camera lately. I love that they add another dimension and color to the garden in the heat of summer when the flowers are fading.

Such clever ideas for this wreath, Mary. The interest added with the roosting pocket is just the right touch. Love the quote by Dianne Benson…and of course those hydrangeas are so beautiful. No doubt they sort of “glow” in the evening’s light. Thanks again for sharing…

I think anyone can be a gardener with your easy tutorial and create a version of this wreath! Those wellies with the flowers are show stoppers along with your stand of hydrangeas! I love all the charming details of your Potting Shed too, Thank you Mary ♥

I love seeing your Potting Shed decked out in all your summer finery and flowers Mary! The wellie garden hose wreath is just perfect for summer, along with your easy to follow directions. I want to go buy a hose now and round up some garden goodies to create one. We have a little utility shed in the corner of the yard that you have inspired me to ‘fancy up’ with a window frame and box planted with flowers underneath. Thank you for all your inspiration, Teresa.

Mary, where would we find garden gloves of this lovely quality? The leather underside is exceptional. Julie W

Good Morning Mary, The last few weeks have been busy around my house with guests so I have not gotten to read you posts until late in the day. So thankful, I could sit down this morning and enjoy this your beautiful garden photos and inspiration wreath idea. This summer my husband has concentrated on renovations to his workshop with an enclosed garage for my car. The good news is now he has more room in his workshop and the things he has stored in my shed have been removed. Now I can begin to organize the interior. I have noticed you have a rug on the floor of your shed, did you paint the subfloor or cover it with some type of flooring? My shed has a plywood floor and I am considering painting it black. Your input would be much appreciated.

    • August 15, 2018 at 12:25 pm

Hi Virginia, Hooray for more space in your shed! My flooring is simple plywood that’s stained. We used the same stain on the floor as on the exterior steps to keep it simple and I placed an indoor/outdoor rug on top.

Thanks Mary, we are going to use a grey composite on the porch floor for both my garden shed and his workshop. I just may use a porch paint or stain as you suggested. The floor would probably take stain better than paint. I may try a sample of each. Also got a five foot window box installed under the double windows on the river side and it looks so good. Thank you so much for your advice.

Your hose wreath with your wellies is adorable Mary! I always have ‘shed envy’ when I see it, now I have hose wreath envy too!

Mary, You make me believe I can be a gardener! I have a brown thumb but love this idea as a summer wreath on my mud room door! Your garden is beautiful!!

Adorable way to decorate a garden hose! Love it! I particularly enjoy seeing pictures of your garden shed from the longer view, seeing it from a distance to get a better idea of your plantings around your shed. Is your shed near your house and lake? It looks like it is set in the countryside. Always enjoy you sharing your inspirations! Thank You!

Hi Cristy, thanks ;) Yes my shed is on the other side of our driveway 🌸🦋🐝

Ma and I talk about it all the time, I like the last couple words Mary… “and money”. We’d never like to know (or admit) the true cost of that summer tomato out of the garden:@) Everything looks very pretty, and in really~really great shape for the middle of August-Enjoy!

Would love a limelight Hygrangea but sadly we are not in the right zone. I just might try to order one anyway. Love yours!

I’m a “beached” gardener but still have my flower pots! Have enjoyed my blooms all summer – right now their little heads are hanging from too much rain! Love your pictures & your potting shed! Thanks so much

Love the Hydrangeas and the hose wreath!! Redoing a garden area and am looking for more plants that come back and I’m hoping those will do well in our open farmland area..almost NO shade..yours look like they are in direct sun so that gives me hope..as this will be my last redo considering my age (73) and can’t quite do all I use to do!! I will definitely read “How To Grow Hydrangeas”…I have one now that doesn’t bloom as much as I would like..maybe I can find out why!! I also look forward to Floral Fridaysand more info from you!!

  25. August 19, 2018 at 8:46 am

    It’s all so damn cute!!!
