The last of the flowers still pushing blooms were harvested before our frost this weekend. . .
Sprinkled in watering cans and filling a zinc bucket . . . the last hurrah for hydrangeas and roses until we meet again next spring.
We had our first freeze on Sunday with the mercury plunging into the 20s.
Summer stretched over five months with one of the warmest Septembers in 80 years, while our fall lasted about 20 minutes before we made the leap to winter!
Hydrangeas were in various stages of bloom and color. . .
Some roses a little past their peak and shabby.
I celebrate pumpkin season beyond the jack-o’-lantern . . .
Enjoying them through Thanksgiving before trading them in for boughs of holly and jingle bells.
Fall is my favorite season and I’ll be sad to see the pumpkins go. . .*sniff*
I like all pumpkins and don’t discriminate. . .
Bumpy, smooth, blue, white, orange, long or short-stemmed.
It’s shaping up to be a very wet and cold week here in North Carolina, with more rain on the way.

What a lovely garden wall of soft flowers and muted colored pumpkins. Lovely arrangement, especially with the watering cans standing as tin soldiers! I love pumpkins too and keep them through Thanksgiving. Then, if there is anything left of them, I cart them to the back of our woods for the woodland critters and deer to have a feast on the seeds and whatever else they want. ☺🍊🍂
Such a bounty of color! I wish my hydrangeas would hold their color into November, but North Alabama was too dry and hot this year. Just a beautiful display of eye candy.

Such a beautiful little setting for the fall. You are so right about the 20 minutes of fall. It’s also my favorite time of year and for the past several years we haven’t had much fall and I was really hoping for a longer one this year. I too am so very tired of all this rain. We are planning a camping trip for this weekend and had to cut Thursday off because of the rain. I just hope it’s not muddy up there. We are headed to Uwharrie National Forest to do some trail hopping in the Jeep.

Absolutely Beautiful! Unique blend of pastels. Love your talent to put the soft-colored summer blossoms with the light-colored autumn pumpkins. I, too live in the south. It is sometimes hard to make the transition for fall with roses,begonias, and geraniums still in bloom. You do it well!

Absolutely gorgeous colors, as soft and as welcoming as the autumnal light. Your hydrangeas look like lilacs with their deep shades. I can’t wait for my own garden of color to relish in all the shades of glory. Still warm here, hopefully rain thanksgiving week, we too are feeling climate change, less and less rain, I remember skiing thanksgiving day as a kid, those days are long gone, we need the rains to end the fires and let us sigh with relief to another fire season behind us…
The display of hydrangeas with roses are a BEAUTIFUL mix !!! Love of pumpkins beyond the Halloween is why I safe mine through Thanksgiving w/o carving any :). Look forward to your blog in my email.

I, too, enjoy ALL pumpkins until Friday following Thanksgiving. I plan my fall decorating around them not so much Halloween. We have no little ones. I like the way the pumpkins last and never wilt. HA! HA!
I will give them to my friend on that Friday. She removes the stem for making fabric pumpkins next year and will feed the flesh of the pumpkin to her chickens. That will be Thanksgiving for the chicks.

Dear Mary, I know we all have had freaky weather this year. We waited with high 80’s for color here in Chicago. Half the trees dropped leaves from the stress. The others finally turned only to be frozen instantly with below freezing temps. Your post of gorgeous pumpkins with summer flowers just shows how WIERD it all is. I still have to do a Midwest Gardening November post…crazy though it may be. Happy Thanksgiving—!

I think the reason why hydrangeas are one of my most favorite of blooms is that they look so beautiful in each stage of their growth…brilliant colors in the spring and waning to the glorious hues of autumn…just love your hydrangea party on the ledge…a celebration of harvest and new beginnings to come….hydrangeas, pumpkins and beautiful watering cans…the perfect combination!

Oh Mary, these soft pastels are an unexpected surprise today! So refreshing after seeing fall photos everywhere of orange and brown! I love the photos with the leaves on the ground in similar but deeper tones of the flowers, just beautiful!! We are freezing this week too, it’s been rainy and cold [40s!] all week and everyone is sick of it! Luckily I was planning to get things done at home this week so I have been hibernating! Snuggle up with Gracie and Lola!
