Happy Wednesday! The tree is finally up and I’m *deerly* loving the twinkling lights. . .a perfect excuse set a table and dine by the soft glow of the tree!
Table inspiration came from a table runner with a jaunty reindeer, sporting a plaid scarf.
I moved my Tartan Centerpiece from Lynch Creek Farm indoors from the porch to the table.
After adding the reindeer to the centerpiece, I added a few bright red ornaments for an additional pop of color. Some magnolia leaves were tucked in along the base of the arrangement, under a tree slice charger to elevate it on the table.
More reindeer flew in to join the table and centerpiece!
These whimsical reindeer were found prancing on aisles at Hobby Lobby at the end of the season at 75% off a few years ago.
They’re metal with a birch-log painted finish.
I *deerly* love tartan and I spied these reindeer salad plates at HomeGoods a couple of weeks ago.
A warm plaid throw provides a tablecloth. Plaid placemats add an additional cozy layer of pattern, framing tree slice chargers and tartan dinner plates. A couple of magnolia leaves add an organic touch and accent under the plates.
We had a few ‘oh dear’ moments the day after Thanksgiving when we went to put up our $$ 3-year-old tree and discovered half the lights weren’t working. After checking lights, fuses, and testing strands with a LightKeeper Pro, we gave up and decided to banish it to the outdoors. It’s going up on the dock by the lake, with some additional strands of lights added to it. Having unlit strands on an exterior tree doesn’t bother me since it will be seen only from a distance and at night, but for our main tree it was another matter.
We ordered a new tree from a different company and arrived last week and I finished decorating it Monday. We’re keeping our fingers crossed this tree lasts longer than three years!
Reindeer & sleigh napkin rings flew in from the North Pole, via Ballard Designs a couple of years ago.

Mary, your tartan Christmas table next to the light of your tree is just beautiful! The new deer salad plates are so fun. Christmas and tartan just go together and you have stacked it magically! Hopefully your new tree’s lights will last longer than three years. We decided we have to purchase new trees for next year. Wishing you a joy-filled Wednesday!

I don’t know if there is a prelit tree that will last!!! My daughter and I have both had the same trouble as you. I was going to buy a light fixer but glad I didn’t. Seems they don’t work either!!

Mary,I had the same problem with my pricey Balsam Hill Christmas tree last year. Needless to say I did NOT order another one! I love your pretty tartan items and the prancing reindeer on your table. I wish I had a Hobby Lobby near me…*sigh*. Dining by the light of the tree sounds wonderful!
Oh how I LOVE this table!!!….Those amazing plates usually don’t even make it to the shelves in my HomeGoods…I have often seen people follow and stop the HomeGoods personnel as they cart things down the aisle to the shelf…Sorry about your $$$ tree. Looking forward to it being on the dock!!…and love those deer…I actually thought they were made of birch rather than metal….Gorgeous table Mary!!!
What a great combination, red and black tartan plaid with reindeer! Santa would be proud! Love it, especially with those awesome reindeer napkin rings and the beautiful fresh evergreen centerpiece. The addition of the red shinny Christmas balls makes it even better. What a lovely table by the tree to dine at and watch those twinkling lights. Perfect! 🎄
You have to know I deer-ly love this tablescape and everything about it. You & I have much in common with our love of tartan. I was able to bag those bucks (napkin rings) in my hunt this past year in one of Ballard’s sales, but had to wait very patiently in my stand – for months! Please save me a seat at the table, I’ll be right over.
Hate to hear that about your tree. I am somewhat anxious about mine, it is 3 yrs old, and I just know things aren’t as they once were in manufacture. Meanwhile, my tree I bought in 2004 was dissected into the Chris Missy and sold two years ago, and the topper sits on my front porch during the holidays, still going strong. Go figure!
Love those Deer! Wish Hobby Lobby would carry them again. Oh the tales I could tell of Christmas tree lights not working on expensive pre-lit trees! Brand new one this year and bottom lights didn’t work. Luckily I found the broken bulb, replaced it and walah! It is my biggest “stresser” every year! Happy Wednesday! Gorgeous table!!!!!

Tartan never goes out of style, does it Mary? Your table runner looks so perfect atop the pretty throw. Your new plates are just gorgeous with your deer themed table. Your flatware makes me swoon…love that pattern! I hope your new tree lasts longer than your last one. I’m sure it looks beautiful in your home. xx
OMG! I love tartan…in fact, I have my tartan Tablecloth and napkins on now…one of my favs on your table are those reindeer napkin rings…I just love those…please keep the ideas coming.I always look forward to your tabkescapes especially at Christmas……..regarding your tree…I too had a prelit tree and it only lasted 3 years..soooo, last year I brought the tree down from the attic and, with a pair of wire clippers, removed all the lights..bought all new GE clear lights and restrung the tree myself..mine was in 3 sections and I did one section at a time..luckily, the lights can plug into each other..I did 2 strands at a time and all the plugs are in the pole and I really like that..it made it possible to leave the lights on the tree and store that way..therefore, instead of a mere 400 lights, I have1500 and it’s beautiful!! A NOTE: if you do this, make sure you wear a long sleeve shirt..when I was finished, my arms looked like a cat attacked me..this year, GE has lights they call Random Twinkle..I put 2 strands of 100 ea, on the tree this year as an addition..and they make the tree look like it sparkles…it’s beautiful…thanks for listening..
So beautiful and festive. I love all the plaid and those reindeer are to die for! Please, won’t you show us your lovely tree and tell us where you purchased it. I think my live tree days are coming to an end. I told myself this year while shopping the tree lot that I’m ready to take the plunge and buy an artificial one for next year! Looked at the ones from Balsam Hill and Frontgate. It’s a huge leap to go to an artificial one…well, for me it is! :-)
Hi Mary-What a beautiful tablescape. The theme is a favorite of mine as I “deerly” love these beautiful creatures! You know tablescapes are my weakness and this one makes me swoon. The table runner, dishes and enhanced centerpiece are gorgeous. The napkin rings are so unique and lovely. The magnolia leaves paired with the wood slice charger is so clever! A meal by your beautiful tree would be an enjoyable experience after having such a challenging time with your Christmas tree. So sorry to hear your $$ tree only lasted 3 years. How cozy is this Christmas woodland table for two! So many wonderful deery details! You and your hubby will enjoy this table all season, while gazing at the lights of your beautiful new tree! At least you thought of a fun thing to do with the “not so old” one! Of course those plates were meant to be yours Mary, and the happy reindeer runner is wonderful!! The Lynch Creek Farm arrangement makes the perfect centerpiece for your table, and I bet it smells wonderful too! So so pretty!

So pretty Mary, and your cozy table by your tree is stunning. I put up about a dozen trees…most fully decorated and some with only lights. We have a tree in the outside foyer entrance that may or may not get ornaments…along with a tree on the lanai and in the Secret Garden. So with three outdoor trees, I have to confess that one or two are recycled from inside the house. LOL The tartan is so bright and beautiful and you have inspired many I am sure. I, too…thought the deer were wood instead of metal! Perfect for sure.

I love, love Tartan plaid! Our LakeHouse is in Edinboro, Pa. Our little town was founded by Scots from Edinburgh so everyone in town loves Tartan Plaid!
