This candy coated popcorn party mix is an easy sweet and salty treat that is highly addictive. It’s dressed to impress with gold and silver edible stars, perfect for a party or New Year’s Eve snacking while watching the ball drop!
Are you ready to ring in the New Year?
This popcorn mix is a favorite ‘go-to’ treat and a crowd-pleaser!
The sweet and salty combination of popcorn, nuts, pretzels and candy, makes it hard to resist.
Wilton Edible Accents gold and silver stars add some glitter to this popcorn for
a festive ‘Black Tie’ party version of this snack mix for New Year’s Eve.
I found the Edible Accents at Party City.
More of a procedure than a recipe, you can vary this mix to your taste,
changing the candy, sprinkles and quantities of ingredients.
I’ve made a version of this popcorn party mix for Football Season, Halloween, Thanksgiving,
Christmas, July 4th, Easter, and Valentine’s Day.
This snack mix starts with popcorn and candy coating or almond bark.
I use a ratio of 6 cups of popcorn per 16 ounce package of candy coating/ almond bark,
but adjust your candy coating-to-popcorn ratio to your taste.
Pop your corn using your preferred method, removing any old maids
or unpopped kernels and set aside.
I prefer CandiQuik (found on the baking aisle) for the convenience of the microwave disposable tray,
but any brand of candy coating / almond bark will work.
Melt the candy coating according to the package directions then mix with your popcorn
in a large bowl, stirring well until coated.
Spread the popcorn on wax paper or parchment-lined baking sheet(s) to set.
Add your decorative sprinkles to your popcorn while the coating is still warm and allow it to cool.
Once the candy coating is set, (about 15 – 20 minutes) break into pieces.
Mix in salted nuts, pretzels, and candy of choice.
I used some Silver Chocolate Peanut and Gold Chocolate Drops, found at Party City
to add some additional silver and gold shimmer and sparkle.
Store in an airtight container.
When ready to serve, place this popcorn party mix in a large glass footed bowl
or serve up on a tray in plastic champagne glasses / flutes for a crowd. This
would also be fun to serve if you’re having an Oscar or awards night watch party!
