A Blooming Valentine’s Tea Party Centerpiece

Create an easy tea-themed flower arrangement and centerpiece for Valentine’s Day. A perfect way to share some love with your girlfriends with a Valentine’s Day Tea Party or to celebrate Galentine’s Day!

Welcome to Monday Morning Blooms, the first and third Mondays of the month. I’m happy to be joining my blogging friends for some flower therapy and to send some blooming inspiration your way!

You’ll find my blogging friends’ links to their blooming creations at the bottom of this post.

Our theme for this week’s edition of Monday Morning Blooms was to create a flower arrangement for Valentine’s Day. A holiday of hearts, flowers and chocolate should be celebrated with the ones you love, and that means girlfriends too! With that in mind, I decided a Valentine’s Tea Party would be a fun way to share some love and celebrate.

To create a centerpiece for a Valentine’s Tea, I started with a teapot and some assorted teacups.

I used a favorite method, chicken wire, which makes for quick and easy flower arranging to support flower stems, and best of all, is reusable. You can find chicken wire at the garden center or craft store (in smaller rolls) and it’s easily cut to the size you need with pliers. You’ll want to cut your chicken wire slightly larger than your opening of your container, with enough wire to bend inside your container so it stays in place.

For the smaller teacup arrangements, I used clear waterproof floral tape. You can find it on the floral aisle at the craft store. (I found mine at Hobby Lobby.) It adheres to dry surfaces, so tape off your grid pattern on your teacup to support your stems before adding your water.

I found a spray of hearts at Hobby Lobby that I cut apart with pliers to add to the teapot arrangement.

I used a combination of spray roses, carnations, alstroemeria and Charmelia from the grocery store for the teapot and teacup arrangements.

For longer-lasting flowers, cut your flower stems at a 45 degree angle for maximum water uptake and remove any leaves below the water line.

Always add the floral preservative packets to your vase water that come with your flowers.

If you don’t have any floral preservative, you can make your own with this easy formula.

I found this chandelier dessert stand at HomeGoods several weeks ago.  . .

Perfect for serving up cupcakes or teacup flower arrangements too! Our Valentine’s Tea Table is set up to enjoy the soft glow and twinkle of lights of our Winter Nesting Tree.

Our winter tree is a cheery way to brighten the house during the cold, gray months of January and February and decorated with snowflakes, icy branches, glittery nests, pine cones and bird ornaments, you can see it HERE.

Mary, you make every holiday a treat for the eyes and taste buds too!….I saw that chandelier candelabra and walked right passed it…but not you, you always find a way to use things in different ways…I can see you looking at it on the shelf and the wheels are turning and you instantly have a vision…the teapot, the cups, are spectacular. I remember my first flower arranging glass a bazillion years ago was making an arrangement in a tea cup. I bet I still have that teacup…somewhere… :) Love seeing the tree again in the background and if Punxsutawney Phil is right, you may be taking down the tree sooner than later :( as he predicted an early Spring and already we are feeling the warmer temps…:)
It is a great pleasure to participate with you for Monday Morning Blooms…my favorite Mondays! Have a wonderful week Mary!

Gosh, Mary, you’re a never-ending resource of ideas. Love how each teacup looks different, and I thought for sure you were adding food to the cupcake stand, but those flowers are a real showstopper on it!

Mary, your teapot and teacup arrangements are so beautiful! Oh how I wish I was close to a Home Goods to be able to find such lovelies as the chandelier stand, perfect for sweet treats. I can’t wait to see the full table tomorrow and take my virtual seat. Spending Monday Morning Blooms with you is always a pleasure❤️🌹❤️

Mary, your arrangement is so creative and lovely as usual. A few years ago I picked up my mother-in-law and a couple of her friends at the retirement home and brought them to my house for a Valentine lunch with me and a couple of my friends. We had the usual ladies lunch fare with Southern Living’s molded chicken salad, etc., a chocolate dessert and ending with little liqueur glasses of chocolate wine and take home favors. They loved it. It is especially nice to remember the older ladies whose ”sweethearts “ are no longer here to do it. My husband always got his mom a box of candy for Valentines until we lost her last year.

Beautiful! You must have an IN with your local Home Goods..every time I go, never find anything that lovely…but..lucky you!! Tea cups are a great idea…can’t wait to see the finished table…❤️🌹❤️🌹❤️🌹❤️

Thank you Ellen :) No, I just stop in a few times a week. I’m lucky that there is one close by on my way to run errands, grocery store, etc. They don’t carry a lot of the same item and have a lot of turn over so you have to check frequently.

I adore the teacups with the exquisite miniature arrangements! And the heart pick from HL is perfect. I will be picking up some of that clear tape for sure. I have fallen down a rabbit hole watching YouTube videos with J Schwanke, a florist. He is so talented and a great floral instructor. I’m home sick, and he has been my entertainment! Beautiful job using the tiered stand too, Mary!

  22. February 4, 2019 at 10:16 am

So pretty, Mary. I love your vintage pastel chenille cloth to show off your pretty flower arrangements. That chandelier cake stand is delightful. Swooning over your teacups brimming with flowers. Very lovely, Mary.
Sorry, I have been out of the loop and missed a month of blogging being sick and mourning my brother-in-law and a friend.

Mary, What beautiful arrangements! I’ve seen the dessert stands @Home Goods before but never saw anything more than a food server. Thank you for enlightening me! I’ve never seen the clear floral tape & must add that to my supplies. The heart pick adds a sweet finishing touch to the colorful blooms. Looking forward to seeing your tablescape tomorrow. I really enjoy that you do such beautiful presentations for Valentine’s Day! It’s always such a nice pop of colors right before spring makes an appearance. When shopping, I passed up on the hearts-on-a-stick because I couldn’t think of where I might use them. Thank you for showing a way to make them an added dimension to the centerpiece floral arrangement (there’s always next year!). Of course, I cannot leave a comment without mentioning the incredibly cute dog sweaters in the header of your post. Adorable heart theme…it’s perfect!

Another show-stopper! Those hearts on the stick are too cute and I love the delicate pattern on your tea cups. Thanks for telling us about the clear tape, it’s so much better than the green. How smart of you to elevate the flowers on your new versatile food/flower stand! I just remembered, I need to bring out my small heart shaped teaspoons I purchased after seeing yours. I can’t wait for tomorrow, I like orange spice tea or apple cinnamon please.😉

Your teacup florals remind me of a gift I received when our 3rd. daughter was born. A beautiful chinz tea cup and saucer with a small potted violet inside. I loved it then and now!
You have made Valentine decorating so charming and fun in so many ways everyone wins.
    Thank You.

Beautiful pictures as always – the teacups remind me of my Mother, who would love to have gone to a tea party!!!

  42. February 4, 2019 at 10:30 pm

Mary, you are the master at spotting something different and then using it in the most clever way. The chandileer dessert stand is perfect to hold these darling tea themed flower arrangements. I use my cups, mugs, gravy boats, tureens, teapots, . . . anything of interest gets filled with flowers around here. My Courtly Check gravy boat is filled with white camalias at the moment. It’s shallow body is perfect for these short stems.
Thanks for sharing the inspiration. I look forward to tomorrows post!
