Hot Cocoa & Marshmallows Whimsical Valentine’s Day Tablescape

I love creating a table or centerpiece to celebrate the holidays and Valentine’s Day is no exception! I’ve had several comments and questions about where my table inspiration comes from. Sometimes it comes from dishes or a tablecloth.  Other times flowers provide the inspiration, but occasionally, it’s a visit to the Dollar Spot at Target!

“We go together like Hot Cocoa & Marshmallows” kitchen towels are serving as napkins and provided some fun and whimsical Valentine’s Day table inspiration!

$3 Chalkboard hot cocoa signs were also at the Dollar Spot.

Fun for setting up a hot cocoa bar or a table!

If you’re a regular reader of my blog, you know I love some flower therapy and putting together an arrangement for a table with my Monday Morning Blooms’ friends.

I used some marshmallows and cocoa for a whimsical Valentine’s Day arrangement for the table, using my favorite ‘vase-within-a-vase’ method.

Use the material of your choice with this method to fill the wall between your vases to coordinate with your theme or holiday. I’ve used hosta leaveslemon slices, birdseed, and different types of candy for Valentine’s DaySt. Patrick’s DayEaster, Halloween and Christmas.

In the unlikely event you’d like to make an arrangement with cocoa and marshmallows ;), here’s how I did it:

Start with two vases, one smaller vase to nest inside a larger one.

You’ll fill the walls of your vase with your decorative material to hide your stems, in this case, instant hot cocoa, mini marshmallows and pink heart marshmallows.

I tossed some of the mini marshmallows in the instant hot cocoa, to create a darker color and contrast.

I poured off the cocoa mix that was left from coating the marshmallows, into the bottom of the vase.

Layer the cocoa-coated marshmallows next, followed by plain mini marshmallows, then a layer of pink hearts, topping off with a top layer of mini marshmallows. Add water and floral preservative to the inner vase and then fill with your flowers.

Fill your inner vase only 2/3 full with water so you can easily remove the inner vase when your flowers are spent, without sloshing or spilling any water. Your vase marshmallows can be used for future cups of hot cocoa or S’mores Chocolate Chip Cookie Cups!

Dress up Pirouline Rolled Wafer Cookies for Valentine’s Day by dipping them in melted chocolate and covering them in sprinkles for an easy treat. . .

Perfectly festive and tasty for serving alongside your cocoa!

Oooooo Mary, can I come to one of your parties? Anyone lucky enough to attend would feel like a princess! I think that is the secret to entertaining, making your guests feel like they are special and you have that talent without a doubt! You never cease to amaze me! Love the Buffalo plaid plates. I have them too but they never look so great on my table! After a trip to Home Goods, I have to sneak my treasures into the house so my husband doesn’t see more dishes!! Thanks for all your inspiration.

Mary, this is one of my favorite tables of yours because it has some of my favorite colors and favorite things! I love hot cocoa, and I drink it year ’round. So of course I love the centerpiece! It’s genius! Your post has brightened my dreary, gray day.

Oh Mary, you’ve really out done yourself this time! I have the biggest smile on my face scrolling through this adorable post, it’s simply wonderful fun! I do love the Target $ spot, always full of treasures and the hot cocoa towel and board you found are the cutest! AND the marshmallow vase with cocoa dusted minis and those fat pink mallow hearts, swoon! Your cocoa looks incredibly delicious, and the Valentine wafer cookies are delightful! I am posting a Valentine dessert with those same cookies tomorrow! Thank you for the grins and chuckles, so adorable!

Mary, your creative mind is always in overdrive. You never miss an opportunity to take and idea and create a very clever tablesetting. I was just at Target last week, but didn’t see the hot chocolate theme pieces. I would have picked up the cute towels for certain. Darling table and idea. Pinning this for inspiration! Happy Valentine’s!

Just love your idea of a Hot Chocolate Bar, such a unique idea and as always love your vase in a vase arrangement, so clever. I was just thinking you could add Godiva Chocolate liqueur or Creme de Menthe Liqueur to spice it up for an adult party. I ran into Target Friday to pick up gift certificates for the grandchildren and now really regret not taking the time to look around.

Your mug of hot chocolate looks wonderful! Another winter blast headed our way tonight. Your special Valentine marshmallow vase is perfect for this setting and I just love those puffy plastic hearts on a stick which adds to your already very pretty flower arrangement. What a clever idea making cocoa hearts and placing the left over cocoa in the bottom and then layering with the white and the big puffy pink hearts, all too cute. You have a special knack for great attention to detail Mary! Cupid would be very pleased! May you have a wonderful Valentine’s Day! ♥️

This is SO cute! And what a brilliant idea to tint the marshmallows with that cocoa – a perfect color within the vase, along with the other layers (not to mention the arrangement of the flowers). These cozy photos and ideas displayed make we wish for pulling things out and having a creative session. Instead, I find myself drowning in the process of extreme purging of stuff right now. The Target finds were a great source of inspiration here. I love it when something like that strikes and it comes together as well as yours has, Mary.
