I have a delicious cookbook to share and give away, filled with real life recipes:
*Martina’s Kitchen Mix: My Recipe Playlist for Real Life
by Martina McBride, 2018 Oxmoor House
To country music icon Martina McBride, cooking and singing aren’t all that different.
“When I make something delicious, I want to share it, which is a lot like sharing my music with an audience,” she says. “Cooking is my love language.”
When she’s not on stage or in the studio, Martina is most likely experimenting in the kitchen and cooking with family and friends. Growing up on a farm in Kansas, Martina began helping her mother in the kitchen at an early age, preparing fresh-from-the-field ingredients. Meals and stories were shared daily around the table. It’s a tradition she continues with her own family as often as she can because real life is what’s worth celebrating.
With her new cookbook Martina’s Kitchen Mix: My Recipe Playlist for Real Life, you’ll find your own invitation to step inside Martina’s kitchen and sample more than 150 of her favorite dishes.
Whip up her favorite Weekend Brunch menu, serving Cheddar Biscuits with Bacon, Baked French Toast with Pecan Crumble and Blackberry-Maple Syrup, and a Sparkling Grapefruit Mimosa. Say “cheers” to happy hour with a Blackberry-Lemon Gin & Tonic while enjoying Whipped Feta Crostini with Roasted Garlic Tomatoes and Fresh Herbs and Baked Olive Cheese Dip .
Make memories during dinner while noshing on Chicken Braised in Sun-Dried Tomato Cream Sauce and Smashed New Potatoes with Lemon. And when it’s time to indulge, go for Fresh Apple Cake with Homemade Caramel Sauce or No-Bake Peanut Butter-Chocolate Cookies.
There is plenty to feast your eyes on as well as your taste buds in this cookbook!
I like that there are healthy sides and salad options like Risotto with Asparagus, Peas and Basil, Thai Slaw with Peanut Dressing, Chipotle Chicken Taco Salad, or Romaine Salad with Pear, Smoked Blue Cheese and Candied Pecans . . .
In addition to comfort food and splurge recipes like Creamy Garlic Pasta with Parmesan Cheese, Blackberry Bacon Grilled Cheese and Chocolate Flourless Cake.
Other recipes that I bookmarked to try in this cookbook include Green Beans with Goat Cheese and Warm Bacon Dressing, Smoked Gouda Pimento Cheese, Individual No-Bake Chocolate-Cherry Cheesecakes with Biscoff Crust, Creamy Chicken Tortilla Soup and County Fair Orange Cake, to name a few.
How about a square of Pumpkin Cornbread with Cinnamon-Honey Butter?
Cream of Chicken and Wild Rice Soup is a two-soups-in-one recipe. Enjoy it as a broth-based chicken soup for when you’re down with a cold or indulge in a bowl thickened with cream.
“I’m always trying for balance in life. I believe in moderation, not deprivation, when it comes to food, but I also agree with the old saying, ‘You are what you eat,’ and believe that high-quality, nutritious food is imperative for good health. In other words, I try to eat healthy 90% of the time, but sometimes I just want cheese or something else creamy and comforting. So when those cravings hit me, I pay attention, and try to satisfy them.”
My go to comfort food is classic Mac ‘n Cheese
What delicious looking food and wonderful cookbook Mary! Thank you for the chance to win. Any kind of pasta or mac ‘n cheese is my family’s comfort food. We’ve needed a lot of comfort lately with all our rainy weather. :)
Wow..that book looks so good!! Pumpkin cornbread? Yummy , I will definitely be trying that!! Thanks for sharing this new book! I NEED me some chicken pot pie ( not just any pot pie either) and meatloaf. I don’t care for chicken pot pies (that claim they are ) where they use a biscuit as the topper. I like to make my own crust ( it’s a simple crust) , my pot pie isn’t pretty, it won’t be pictured in a cookbook, but the taste is spot on!!! The recipe isn’t mine but a combination of family and friends.. Have a blessed day! 🎀
My favorite comfort food is my homemade chicken noodle soup. I try to keep homemade chicken broth in the freezer for those times I feel a cold coming on.
My favorite song is “Die A Happy Man” by Thomas Rhett
I love that sweet kitchen prayer Mary! Thank you for introducing me to this cookbook. I saw Martina on Food Network back in the fall and enjoyed watching her. I have to confess that French Fries are my comfort food. I try to limit myself but it’s called “comfort food” for a reason! 🍟☺️
My comfort food is Roast made in my crock pot. Love the Mississippi Roast recipe. My favorite song or songs while cooking or baking which I do alot would be Bob Seger album. Turn The Page is my favorite.
Gosh! I guess I would have to say my comfort food is ice cream. The pictures in this book look so good, I am getting hungry.
Beautiful cookbook Mary, it looks like one I’d like to add to my kitchen shelves! I have Sara Bareilles on shuffle play in the evenings or when I’m working. “Love Song” and “King of Everything” are two of my favorites. As far as comfort food, give my a slice (or two :)) of pizza!
Love the kitchen prayer and I try to remember to invite JESUS into the kitchen when preparing a meal. Wouldn’t you love to have JESUS help cook then sit at the table enjoying His company and OH My Goodness, the conversation!!!! I enjoy 80’s and 90’s music but when cleaning I like to listen To Phantom of the opera and anything by Andrea Bocelli. In the Summer my windows and doors are open and I often see my back door neighbor pull up a chair and enjoy the music also.
My favorite comfort food is Texas caviar along with a hint of lime chips. Thanks for sharing Mary.
Definitely Aunt Nat’s Chicken And Rice casserole! It’s my go to comfort food!!
Looks like a beautiful recipe book with great photography. If it don’t win, I’m heading to the bookstore!. When I’m feeling in need of comfort, I make creamy baked ziti. It’s a family tradition.
I love watching Martina‘s cooking show. The food looks delicious!
What a great idea for a cookbook! And beautifully photographed. My comfort food favorite is always meatloaf. Thank you for the chance to win.
Beautiful book! Mac ‘n Cheese is my comfort food.
I love the variety of your songs on your playlist which I have also, but my two favorite “wake up & get happy* songs is Al Jarreau-Mornin’ & The Gap Band-Early in the Morning. My favorite recipe for life is music & food!
I would have to say a huge bowl of homemade mashed potatoes is our go to comfort food…the perfect side for our comfort meals of homemade chicken tenders or meatloaf or venison round steak. 😋 Thank you for the opportunity to win Martina’s book, her recipes look wonderful!
What a beautiful cookbook! It’s definitely suitable for a coffee table! I’m sure each and every dish in it is delicious. Comfort food for me…my grandmother’s chicken and dumplings. One of my favorite songs…Annie’s Song by John Denver.
My favorite comfort food is potato soup. My grandmother prepared it for us when we were sick, and I recently made a pot of potato soup to share with my sister when she had the flu. She told me it reminded her of Nana.
These recipes look delicious. Songs on my playlist would be anything by George Straight! 😊
Well, it’s still a bit chilly in Long Beach so corn chowder ( potatoes, green Chile) sprinkled with bacon is a favorite comfort food. ZZ Top to Andrea Brocelli can be heard in my kitchen!
Another great post and awesome photography.
Thank you,for sharing.
I love chili! I make it without a recipe with what I have in my pantry. My go to music is Andrea Bocalli.
My favorite comfort food is man and cheese with hatch chiles. Anything by James Taylor.
Go-to comfort food that I now am craving is Chicken Rivel Soup over mashed potatoes, a family favorite that was made by my mother and now shared by my 8 family siblings and their families. This is a wonderful soup that not only warms your belly but heals what ails you. Brings me right back home. ❤️
Thank you so much for sharing this wonderful cookbook. I would love to own a copy! My favorite comfort food is a rigatoni and broccoli casserole that my husband invented and I perfected so it’s really the best of us. Whenever I ask my boys what they want for dinner, this is it. Its easy, and they just can’t eat enough of it. It makes me so happy to please them with food because I love to cook, but more, I love to spend time with them. So this dish is a win-win. <3
Thank you for sharing yet another amazing cookbook! I would say my favorite comfort food is a piece of cake with a cup of coffee on the side — any cake! A little Bailey’s in the coffee is an extra treat!
What a gorgeous cookbook! Of course, I want to try every recipe. My comfort food is meat loaf with a baked potato. Brings back lovely memories of wonderful home-cooked family meals. The Righteous Bros. “Unchained Melody” still is my all-time favorite. No one sings it like they do.
My go to comfort food is any baked pasta dish. Listening to Diana Krall on Alexa.
Mary,
I love this cookbook!
The comfort food I love making and serving to guests is Chicken Pot Pie with bacon! I have fun using puff pastry seasonal cut outs, such as hearts, flowers, leaves! I think this recipe is a Southern Living one via you!
Thanks so much for sharing!
Gale
As a fellow Kansas girl, I have several of Martina’s CDs to play in the background and would love to try her cookbook! A personal favorite song – This One’s for the Girls! Love Martina!
My go to food is yogurt with blueberries and toasted pecans! My favorite song I never get tired of is Moondance by Van Morrison. This cookbook looks fantastic, hope I win. Thank you Mary, I love your posts.
I really enjoy Martina’s show on food network and this cookbook looks fabulous too! My favorite comfort food is my Mom’s classic mac & Cheese or her potato soup, and Motown classics or the Rolling Stones would be on my play list!
Thank you for the opportunity to win this cookbook and have a nice weekend!
When I want a perfect ending for a Sunday meal I make a homemade Banana pudding just like my Ma used to make every Sunday when she was living and all of our families would go and have lunch after church. We are talking about real namer pudding complete with a tall meringue on top. Perfect comfort and makes me seem like all my family is back together and loving each other.
That would be Naner pudding not Namer pudding, what all of us kids always called it and lol I still do.
Such a beautiful cookbook. Our comfort food is chicken pot pie. My boys can’t get enough of it.
A favorite comfort food is any homemade soup…chicken pastina, potato, and a stuffed green pepper soup I love to make. Thank you for sharing Martina’s recipe’s…they all look amazing!
My go to is probably pasta of some sort…looks like a great cookbook.
WOW!! A wonderful surprise giveaway!! After looking at all those pictures and reading some of the recipes, made me want to try them…my favorite comfort food is my fried chicken..after soaking in buttermilk all day, then dredged in seasoned flour and fried in coconut oil, it just reminds me of my childhood at home…fried chicken also needs mashed potatoes and gravy…yummmy gotta go get some chicken outta the freezer for supper!! Oh BTW, my favorite song on my playlist is George Strait’s ROLLING ON THE RIVER!! It’s upbeat and gets your motor working…GOOD LUCK to all!!! ❤️🍗🌊. P.S. I love Martina too…especially, This Ones For The Girls!
What a beautiful sampling! The pictures are gorgeous! I love “ crazy love” by Van Morrison too!!
I have many guilty pleasures… banana cream pie would be one at the top of my list!!♥️
This is the second time I have tried to post …hope it goes through this time…my favorite comfort food is fried chicken and favorite song on my playlist is George Strait ‘s Rolling On The River…
What a beautiful cookbook! My comfort food is home-made chicken pot pie. I love to listen to anything by Ottmar Liebert when I’m cooking. Just the right beat for measuring, stirring, cleaning up afterwards!
I love soup & cornbread! Make minestrone or taco soup! So comforting
My favorite comfort food is thick chicken and dumplings ❤️
My comfort food is pasta! All forms. My mom is Italian and I lost her to cancer three years ago😢. She would always say, never buy sauce in a jar or can, it’s so easy to make yourself! I miss her voice but when I’m cooking Italian dishes, I can hear her voice saying remember you can add but you can’t take away. For instance, salt of course, but when I make Wedding Soup, it’s the Pastina. Too much can make it thick.
My playlist has to include ABBA. Dancing Queen was a song that my mom and I would listen too when cleaning house. So it takes me back to that memory.
Some other songs I fancy….Midnight Rider-Gregg Allman, Roll Me Away and Turn The Page-Bob Seger. At Christmas, Martina’s cd is the only one I love to hear. Such a beautiful soul and voice! I have several that are part of past memories, but still play a roll in my present and future. Music will help you through the journey of life!!
Lately my comfort food this swinger has been chicken and rice casserole with broccoli!!
My go to comfort food has to be Chicken Stroganoff…not because it’s my favorite but because it’s my husband’s favorite. He’s not a foodie so when he asks…I try to deliver. My top playlist song has to be Justin Timberlake singing Hallelujah . Chills!
Thank you.
i wait for mango season all year just to have my mom’s spicy ripe mango coconut curry and eat little of anything else whole season..i drink bowlfuls of just curry!!!
and 1 song for me is November Rain..
Thank you for sharing this lovely book. Just when I’m trying to let go of some cookbooks, here’s one I need to add! Favorite comfort food—pasta! Spaghetti bolognese (one my husband makes) is the best!
This would be a great addition to my cookbook collection! My favorite comfort food is pot roast with mashed potatoes!
What a fun book, and the recipes you mentioned have me drooling! I would have to say my comfort food is peanut butter, no wait…maybe it’s bacon….but of course chocolate makes everything better! Luckily I’ve been craving salad lately! I love how she incorporated her love of music and her kitchen memories in the book to make it really special. Thanks Mary,
Jenna
I love Martina McBride and I love that Heavenly Day by Patti Griffin is on her playlist – mine too!!
Thank you for the giveaway! As far as comfort food it would definitely have to be turkey chili and Fleetwood Mac is always on my Playlist, my favorite being Sara and Dreams.
I’ve watched Martina cook on her show, and her recipes and style are wonderful. This is such a great giveaway, Mary!!! My favorite comfort food is chicken and dumplings. Thank you for offering this fabulous giveaway. Happy weekend to you! 😘
I am a huge Martina fan! Her Timeless album is one of my favs! Now that’s a great kitchen playlist!! Comfort food for me is a huge plate of homemade chicken and dumplings….my grandma used to add English peas and they were extra yummy! All 12 of her children could cook just like her and anything my Mama cooks (she was one of the 12) is comfort to me! She still cooks Sunday lunch after church for us and she is almost 79 years young!!! We indulge in her food and in wonderful family conversation!
My mother had the same little wooden plack with the Kitchen Prayer. That brought back memories.
Martina’s new book looks wonderful with so many great recipes. You did a great job reviewing it.
My favorite comfort food would be pot roast and I crave it particularly in the wintertime.
Signed, sealed and delivered it has to be tomato soup and grilled cheese followed by homemade chocolate chip cookie! 🍀
Pasta is my favorite go to!
My comfort food is Polish sausage, cabbage, carrots, and potatoes all cooked on one pot with a big slab of cornbread. All made while listening to Carole King…Tapestry.
One favorite comfort food is chicken and pastry! Another, country-style steak with rice.
Chicken noodle soup with saltine crackers
Her cookbook looks wonderful! My go to comfort food is good ole country cooking…country fried steak, mashed potatoes, fresh peas, fried okra, homegrown tomatoes. Yum.

Thank you for offering this great giveaway! My favorite comfort food is homemade mac and cheese followed closely by cheesecake with my favorite coffee. My playlist has to include “Sunshine On My Shoulders” by John Denver and anything by George Strait. :)
Love Martina as an entertainer…great to see her in the kitchen with her favorite recipes too! My favorite is chicken & noodles in the crockpot for comfort food! Would love her cookbook in my kitchen, as dancing in the kitchen has always been my mother’s motto, for the kitchen is filled with food, fun, & love!
My favorite comfort foods include baked potato soup, broccoli cheese soup, and manicotti. I like lots of music but any girl power song is good. Martina has several- A Broken Wing and Independence Day are some of my favorites of hers although they are sad songs also.
On a recent cold Michigan day I made chicken and dumplings. As my husband and I were eating dinner I commented that this is the ultimate comfort food! Thank you for the chance to win a copy of this new cookbook. It looks like a winner!
Macaroni and cheese is my favorite comfort food.
I recently came across her cooking show on the Food Network and thought her recipes looked delicious. Spaghetti is always a quick and favorite comfort food, but lately I’ve been devouring homemade pimento cheese.
Thank you for sharing excerpts from what looks like a great cookbook! Love Martina’s play list as well. My favorite tune for a ride include: I’m No Angel-Greg Allman Band, Rolling in the Deep-Adele. Feelin’ Again-John Hiatt. Goin’ Up The Country-Canned Heat. To name a few. Favorite comfort food-Lasagna,lasagna, and more lasagna.
Macaroni & Cheese, updated now to include Lobster…delicious!
Cookbook looks amazing, love cookbooks. Also, I just love the cutting board prayer. My comfort food would be meatloaf and scalloped potatoes, yummy. Thank you love your blog so much.
Looks like a great new cookbook. My comfort food is to make a big batch of cinnamon rolls .Good luck everyone !
This cookbook looks awesome! I would love to try Martina’s recipes. Chicken and dumplings is one of my favorite comfort foods. Thanks for your introduction to this new cook.
My comfort foods are Mac and cheese and oatmeal with butter and maple syrup. Where did you find such cute puppies Mary. I need to get one?
My go to comfort food is anything pasta-spaghetti, linguini alfredo, or pasta with spinach, sun-dried tomatoes with cream sauce. Yum! All while playing Patsy Kline songs on fav list.
What a great give away! And wonderful looking cookbook! There are so many comfort foods to turn to,so to list just one is so difficult. Pizza, Mac and Cheese, chocolate! Love Martina’s voice!
My favorite go to recipes right now are soups of any kind to warm up on these cold, rainy winter days. A warm bowl to cozy up with, a Bob Dylan or Lumineers album on the record player, along with some tea lights glowing, have helped me savor these dark winter days. A new cookbook, especially adorable Martina’s, would be a great addition to coast through these last few weeks of winter.
Kind of like Bubbba Gump’s shrimp……fried, boiled…etc….My comfort food is chicken…friend chicken, grilled chicken, chicken noodle soup, chicken spaghetti…chicken in a lemon cream sauce…cajun chicken…the list goes on a hundred different ways and what better to get you motivated while having fun in the kitchen than Chicken Fried by Zac Brown!
Thanks for featuring this wonderful cookbook by an amazing artist! Wishing, hoping and praying!
Spaghetti with meatballs! I could eat it everyday. This is a beautiful cookbook. Thank you for the opportunity.
Thank you for offering a give away. The best comfort food for me is a summer hamburger with home grown tomatoes, fresh lettuce, with avocado. And for music, Amen by Jon Bon Jovi…any of his music is great for the kitchen!
I love Martina’s (with Jim Brickman) “My Valentine.” So pretty! Her recipes look fabulous. My favorite go to comfort food is just an old fashioned roast beef dinner cooked with celery, onions and carrots with mashed potatoes and gravy.
My playlist varies during the year. Nothing better to get fired up in the kitchen with some good soul music…James Brown, Marvin Gaye, Al Green, The Four Tops, The O’Jays, The Temptations. “My Girl” is always a hit! When I’m in a Disco mood (which is often) the Bee Gees satisfies that craving. Michael Jackson is always good for dancing in socks on the hardwood floor!! Also, some good ol’ Carolina shagging music….The Tams, The Showmen, Chairman of the Board, etc. Starting around Thanksgiving I have to have Dean Martin CD’s on. Love me some Dino during the holidays!
My favorite comfort food is pasta with homemade pesto, and I love the song Never Been Gone by Carly Simon. Martina’s cookbook looks amazing. Thank you for the chance to win it!
What a beautiful cookbook!!! Meatloaf (making two today) is my comfort food. I use my Mom’s recipe. Motown is my kitchen music choice!
My go to comfort food is my mom’s recipe for Brunswick Stew. And I love to eat it while listening to Aretha Franklin belting out RESPECT.
Hi Mary! First I have to say you did Martina proud with your review of her new cookbook. The photographs and your choices of highlighted recipes make me want the book and try all the recipes. One of my favorite comfort foods is Chicken and Sausage Gumbo with a side of Potato Salad. It makes this Cajun girl happy! Thanks for this opportunity! Good luck everybody!
(but I really hope I win)
My favorite comfort food is macaroni and cheese! Chicken pot pie comes in a close second. I saw Martina McBride’s cooking show a few months ago, and it was great! PS My favorite thing to do is crank up the Christmas music (in November, December, and even January) and cook! I especially love my Michael Buble Christmas CD.
My favorite comfort food is French Onion Noodle casserole and favorite tune is “In My Life” I love you more by the Beatles!!
I guess my comfort food, especially in the gloomy winter, would be meatloaf with mashed potatoes. I would enjoy Martina’s cookbook very much. Thanks for a chance to win
An absolutely mouthwatering book! When my comfort level drops, a bowl of hot (real) grits with cheese will lift me up. To make it soar, the cheese is an aged goat cheddar.
Wow! What a great cookbook and I know I would me over joyed to win and share these delicious recipes with my family. My go-to ocomfort food is enchiladas and favorite song is “Just a small town girl 👧 💕…Journey. Thank you for sharing Martina’s new cookbook 💗 so in love with the cooking playlist.
My comfort food is pasta with red sauce. My brother makes a killer Bolognese sauce in a large batch and freezes it for quick meals. I think our Italian grandmother would have appreciated it. Knowing how much I love his sauce and that I don’t make it because my husband is allergic to tomatoes, he always shares a few pints with me. Extra comfort for me because it has been shared by a much loved brother. Any rocking music works, unless I am working on perfecting a French pastry technique, then only silence will do. I love your blog. When I search for recipes, I often use your blog as a resource-thank you for providing such a variety of recipes.
My “go to” comfort food is a hamburger-rice hot dish my mom used to make.
Love this cookbook and the pictures are so tempting – makes you want to jump in and gobble all of it up! I love Martina – saw her in Knoxville TN and it was a wonderful concert. My comfort food is good old soup beans and cornbread! Thanks for sharing this beautiful cookbook. Love the kitchen prayer too!!!
Mother’s biscuits. She mixed them up, rolled them into patties by hand, and placed them in a cast iron skillet, then she spooned melted shortening over the tops. They came out of the oven about two inches thick with a crunchy crust and smooth as velvet interior—they never crumbled. Sliced open with gravy on top, served with fried chicken, mashed potatoes, collard greens, and sweet iced tea. (I’m pretty sure my husband married me for my mother’s biscuits.) When I’m feeling nostalgic: Patsy Cline, George Jones, Hank Williams, Sr., and Johnny Cash.
Thank you for such a lovely giveaway! My go-to comfort food is baked ziti. Growing up in an Italian family, we always ate pasta and tons of it. I always look for pasta whenever i think comfort food!
A great cookbook always has a mix of foods coupled with beautiful photographs and the chef’s playlist! And what a wide ranging list she provides! My family’s go-to comfort is Mac-n-cheese, but it has to be from Poole’ s in Raleigh, N.C.! I’d love to make Martina’ s version and compare. Thanks for sharing yet another wonderful cookbook!
My mom had that same kitchen prayer in her kitchen! I don’t know what happened to it but it was so nice to see it again. Love Martina’s music and didn’t know she was such a passionate cook. Thanks for sharing!
That cookbook makes me want to cook. My favorite comfort food would be red beans and cornbread. It was such a treat growing up. I had friends that thought I was crazy. Their mom made it often so it wasn’t special to them.
Looks like a great book. Gotta love the mac-n-cheese :) Love the prayer as well.
My comfort food would probably be my mom’s homemade chicken pot pie. I love that she does it all from scratch and even does a decoration on the crust! And I make a mean vegetable beef soup that is hearty and tasty and hits the spot during the winter months. Love it with jalapeno cornbread!
My favorite comfort food is anything chocolate! My playlist always includes Luke Bryan & Blake Shelton. Clara
Everything looks wonderfully yummy. Can’t wait to try them.
Anything with gravy!! Chicken fried steak, mashed potatoes or a rump roast with brown gravy. That spells comfort to me.
We Can not have a Thanksgiving dinner without my Grandma’s Chicken and Noodles. My Grand kids always ask me if I am going to make them. Love Martina too.
My favorite comfort food is Swiss steak. I pound the flour into the meat using the edge of a saucer, just like I watched my great grandma Dee Dee do it when I was a little girl. I have a perfectly fine modern tool for such things, but this is a sacred family tradition and the memories are as much comfort as the finished meal. As for music, I think that Queen’s “Somebody to Love” is fun, enjoyed with a cocktail while I cook. Dee Dee would not approve of this last part, so I hope she’s happy enough about the Swiss steak. ;-)
Oh yes, I love Martina’s kitchen prayer, and the book sounds wonderful!
What a terrific Giveaway, So many wonderful recipes! Been cold and snowy where is excited about some new soup recipes but am anxious for Spring and having a Brunch with friends on the weekend, including the Grapefruit Mimosa. I spent a lot of time in Kansas as that is where my Grandparents were from and Great-Grandparents called home, so I confident some of these recipes are going to spark some fond memories
All the recipes you reviewed sound delicious! I have many comfort foods but this rainy, dreary weather we are having makes me think of grilled cheese sandwiches with warm, gooey cheese between some awesome bread!
Homemade mashed potatoes are my favorite!!
I just love the sweet kitchen prayer and that it was passed down from Martina’s grandma. My comfort foods are soups of any kind! Love nutritious one pot meals especially, this time of year.
Oh my gosh, I loved reading all the comments about everyone’s favorite comfort foods and songs. Now I am so hungry and have a whole new playlist of music to pass the time on this cold, snowy day! I don’t know if I have one single comfort food, but biscuits are love. What I mean by that is that they aren’t just food. When I eat them I have a distinct feeling of love because my mom used to make them for me when I was little. So that is what they are: love!
Yes, yes, yes! Oh YES! Thank you so much for you wonderful blog and this AMAZING giveaway!!!! Have a great day!
I’d love to have the wonderful kitchen prayer. Marina’s cookbook and playlist looks like a Must Have. My favorite go to comfort food is grilled cheese with pears or apples and chutney and my soup made with roasted butternut squash, honey and five spice . MM, so good.

Anything chocolate is comfort to me! Wishing you a weekend of sunshine- nothing but rain here in Arkansas.
What a beautiful book . . . and thank you for this give-away. My favorite comfort foods would be mac ‘n cheese or creamy chicken & rice soup. I love your blog — beautiful photos and gorgeous gardening themes. My heart is heavy this month as I had to release my 12-year old “Jack,” Standard Poodle. He was a wonderful companion and made me laugh a lot with mischievous antics. I certainly was with you in spirit last year when you lost Chloe . . . thanks for carrying on with the new puppy. I’m going to do the same. And thank you so much for all the beauty and joy you bring into our lives through your writing & photography.
Hi Leslie, I feel your pain and am so sorry to hear about the loss of your Jack. I hope your memories bring you comfort. ♥ 🐾
My favorite all time comfort food is my Mom’s white spaghetti. She made it during my childhood and beyond. And everyone that knew her included their memories of it in their eulogy at her memorial service. I love Martina’s singing and know that this cookbook would be a welcome addition to our kitchen library. I saw her prepare selections from it on the Food network. YUM!
This cookbook is BEAUTIFUL! I love to make fresh Apple Cake too, while dancin’ to “Brown Eyed Girl”!
My favorite comfort food for family and friends is a turkey with all the fixings, my dressing especially is well received and mashed potatoes tooooo…I love Martina and her songs and how she lives her life as a wife and mother..she is downhome in my book, her playlist is wonderful. My favorite comfort food is chicken noodle soup made with bone broth and extra thick homemade noodles……and my favorite playlist is usually on my phone Pandora under “relaxing Classical.” For cleaning it is always 80s dance music.

Good old mac and cheese! Can’t beat it! Love Martina and would really enjoy her cookbook!
Chicken and dumplings. I absolutely love Martina McBride. I’m a huge fan from back in day!
My comfort food particularly this time of year is home made chicken noodle soup with saltine crackers.
The whole process of making the soup and the wonderful smell of the kitchen while the soup is simmering is so cozy.
Love love your blog. I enjoy everything from the recipes, gardening and the puppies.
Avocado toast with Kerrigold butter and lemon pepper
My grandmothers autumn chowder! :)
These recipes look SO good! Love the little kitchen prayer and her playlist. One of my favorite comfort foods would have to be a hearty beef stew.
My favorite comfort foods are my mother’s baked chicken with mashed potatoes, seasonal veggies and topped off with her Sunny Silver Pie (Lemon Chiffon)! We had it often when family visited and it reminds me of happy times in the kitchen sharing love and laughter. We often sang while we worked. Now I like to listen to seasonal music, such as Christmas songs, or Irish music as we march into spring and St. Patrick’s Day, or anything that is lively! I enjoy making your recipes, great directions and pictures! Thanks!
One of my comfort foods especially when I am not feeling well is tapioca pudding. This cookbook along w/ the Southern Living one you gave away last time are on my shopping list. Thank you, Mary, for all your inspirational posts.
My go to is mac and cheese! YUM!
mia2009(at)comcast(dot)net
I love Chicken Pot Pie for true comfort food on a cold, dreary, rainy day. I have always loved Martina’s music. Who wouldn’t love her cookbook?!
Hi Mary, I’m late commenting but love the look of these delicious recipes and Martina’s kitchen prayer! Our comfort food of late is Pasta Carbonara…warm and so satisfying. Thank you for the opportunity to win a copy of this cookbook. I can always count on to send yummy recipes my way!
Awwww, I was so disappointed to get to the end of the email and find it’s open to US residents only.
It looks like a beautiful book and I was thrilled with the chance to win it.
It really sucks when you see open to US only. Sorry your site is not the only one to do this and consequently I am trying to follow more Canadian bloggers. Having said that I love what you do.
Ps my comfort food is fettuccine Alfredo
It is so inspiring (and comforting!) reading about everyone’s favorite comfort food. By far, my favorite comfort food is my grandmother’s pot roast recipe. I make it in her ancient cast iron Dutch oven which she passed down to me. My ‘grandma’ was a wonderful real life cook who still cooked her own meals well into her late 90s. She lived to be 101! The decades of love and delicious meals she prepared are sealed in the walls of that old Dutch oven. It creates the most delicious flavor to the pot roast and brings wonderful memories of family and food and life.
I LOVE Martina McBride’s music and her recording of Oh Holy Night is my absolute favorite. Her cookbook looks wonderful and amazing. I adore the kitchen prayer and can’t wait to try her recipes. Thank you for the opportunity to win a copy.

What a wonderful give away. I love to cook and spend time in my kitchen. Umm, my favorite comfort food would be my Mother’s recipe for spaghetti with meat sauce. It is 😋. My favorite song has to be “Fallen” by Lauren Wood. It was featured in the movie Pretty Woman. After seeing the movie I ran right out and bought the cd. Thanks to my sweet daughter I have music anywhere in the house I go. She gave me a Wonderboom small compact Bluetooth speaker therefore it is always in the kitchen with me when preparing a meal. Thanks for giving us another opportunity at another terrific recipe book.
My go to comfort food is homemade Mac and cheese!!! My favorite.

Thank you for the chance to win!! One song I love to listen to anytime is “Country Roads” by John Denver.
I have enjoyed Martina’s show on the Food Network. In fact, I liked her fall kitchen so much that I took a picture of the tv screen to remember it by. I can imagine it would be a real treat to look through the photos and try the recipes in this cookbook. The kitchen verse on the cutting board is so sweet.
When it comes to comfort food I’d have to say it is my mom’s recipe for Hungarian Chicken Paprikash. Although we are not Hungarian, we had a neighbor who was. My mom got the recipe from her and it became our family favorite. Mom is no longer with us, but every time I make it I am right back at her table sharing the special family moments.
My comfort food growing up was spaghetti with meat sauce. As an adult, I would say chicken piccata or spaghetti with clam sauce. Too many choices.
I love the kitchen prayer.
Oh, that’s easy…paccheri ripieni con salsiccia e funghi, a tubular pasta stuffed with a spicy Italian pork sausage, mushroom, and leek mixture with ricotta. Pack the tubes on end and stuff them, strew with mozzarella, smother in bechamel, and top with a Parmesan crust. Sin on a plate.
Beautiful book Martina, My favorite thing I do is cooking, My husband always jokes with me about this. I cook on Sundays for the week as I work a couple of double shifts. I always have Italian kitchen songs playing. My favorite go to food is a pot of sauce (tomato) and a batch of soup. The soup I change each week depending on the vegetable that is selling in my area.
Love chili!

Beautiful cookbook. My favorite comfort food is Homemade Vegetable soup with a side of Cornbread. Yummy on a cold winter day.
When I think comfort food I am reminded of my days as a working mom when it was cold and wet and I was tired after working all day. I would stop on the way home from work and pick up fried chicken, mashed potatoes and biscuits and gravy, things we didn’t eat on a regular basis but that reminded me of my mother’s country kitchen when I was little. They fed my soul.
My favorite comfort food is Spaghetti. Love me some good “sketti” ! Don’t listen to music much, but that may change- already browsing spotify to find my own favorite cooking playlist.

I love to make from scratch soups..build big salads with spinach, kale, lots of berries mandarin oranges, with grilled salmon on top and a raspberry vinaigrette… but most of all for pure comfort food I love to bake a chocolate cinnamon fudge cake! And almost always Rod Stewart is singing “As time goes by” and many of the old standards that he sings and my husband and I love!
My comfort food is breakfast!! Bacon or sausage with fried eggs and hashbrowns, or fried potatoes, and biscuits and gravy!! I love bluegrass music and cooking outside, especially over a campfire.
Gotta go with Tuna Noodle Casserole but a good Meatloaf is not far behind. I also make a Nacho Skillet casserole that is topped with Nacho Cheese Doritos and Tillamook Cheddar Cheese that is very comforting. I listen to all kinds of music while I’m cooking. Who wouldn’t want to rock out to Martina McBride’s Independence Day while making your way around the kitchen. Yummmm! – the cookbook looks divine. I would love to add it to my collection and throw a dinner party in Martina’s honor.
My go-to comfort food is biscuits and gravy. My ‘granny’ used to make it for me when I would visit from out of state. I love to walk to Danger Zone from the Top Gun soundtrack. Showing my age but I love the entire soundtrack to Bat Out of Hell.

So many foods i love! I will have to say an egg sandwich always fits the bill.
My favorite comfort food is best made in the summer when vegetables are fresh. We call it gumbo, though it’s not like Cajun gumbo. I make it with fresh garden tomatoes, Silver Queen or a bi-color corn (off the cob), Vidalia onions, and sliced okra. It can be eaten over rice or as a thick soup.
