May We Never Forget That Freedom Isn’t Free

Memorial Day commemorates all men and women who have died in military service for the U.S. defending our freedom and democracy. A day set aside to honor those men and women who made the ultimate sacrifice for our country.

“Those who have long enjoyed such privileges as we enjoy forget in time that men have died to win them.”

– Franklin D. Roosevelt

“A hero is someone who has given his or her life to something bigger than oneself.”

– Joseph Campbell

“Our flag does not fly because the wind moves it. It flies with the last breath of each soldier who died protecting it.”

– Unknown

“Patriotism is not short, frenzied outbursts of emotion, but the tranquil and steady dedication of a lifetime.”

– Adlai Stevenson II

“Each of the patriots whom we remember on this day was first a beloved son or daughter, a brother or sister, or a spouse, friend, and neighbor.”  – George H. W. Bush

However you celebrate this Memorial Day, take some time to recognize, reflect, and remember how fortunate we are to live in freedom.

May we never forget that freedom isn’t free.

I loved your tribute today, Mary, and the quotes brought tears to my eyes. My grandson, who is my oldest grandchild, will be graduating from high school this Friday, has signed up to be a Marine, and has been training this past year. He has a passion for the Marines!

🏅A gold medal to you Mary! What a beautiful, patriotic, loving post to honor those who gave their all and how special to honor them and their families. We are so thankful for our freedom. Coming from a daughter of a WWII Vet and having brothers and a husband who served during the Viet Nam era, thank you for your tribute to those who have passed and to those still with us. ♥️🇺🇸♥️🇺🇸

Such a beautiful post. Our soldier died this past Monday from an accidental overdose; He never completely recovered from the pain he felt from his time in Iraq. He loved this country and was proud to be a Marine.

Such a beautiful and thoughtful post! Thank you for your patriotism and for honoring those who gave us our freedom. You have brought tears to my eyes today. My husband was in the Marines and served in Vietnam. His twin brother served as well, but unfortunately was killed in combat. So today is very important to my husband and this post will certainly mean a lot to him. Thank you again for the time spent on gathering the beautiful images and quotes. You are the best!

Thank you so much for your pictures and thoughts. We sometimes forget just what the holiday is about. Two of my brothers were in WWII, one in Medical Corp and one in Air Force. The youngest was in the Korean war and the second served again in Air Force. We were so fortunate to have them all return as some of our neighbors and their friends didn’t. I remember having stars in the windows of my parents farm house signifying my brothers service. May our flag always fly

Mary, thanks for a wonderful post. My dad and so many others in our family fought in all the wars since WWI. Nothing like growing in a military family and knowing how much the service of theses men and women cost, not just them, but the rest of their family members. Prayers for everyone and God bless you for taking the time to do this post. It’ means a lot
