National Flag Week + Stars and Stripes Giveaway!

DSC_5822.1

Happy National Flag Week! This week-long observance leading up to Flag Day on June 14th, commemorates the adoption of the U.S. flag, paying tribute to the banner that waves above us all.

Americans are encouraged to observe Flag Day and National Flag Week, so I’m waving the flag from the archives and celebrating the Stars & Stripes with a little giveaway!

Old Glory’s official history dates back to June 14, 1777, when the Second Continental Congress passed a resolution establishing America’s banner.

The U.S. flag has gone through an evolution of 26 changes before it became the iconic symbol that it is today, proudly flying with 13 stripes and 50 stars, to represent the original 13 colonies and all 50 states.

In celebration, I’m sharing some Stars & Stripes and Ball Jar Love with a little giveaway!

DSC_5862.2

In addition to the classic Ball logo, Stars & Stripes Keepsake Jars feature a stars and stripes embossment, adding a patriotic touch to your canning, storage, beverage, and décor creations, ideal for family picnics and patriotic celebrations.

Ball Jars have been made in USA since 1884, another thing to celebrate!

DSC_5834.1

To celebrate the Red, White and Blue, I put together a little patriotic vignette with transferware and Ball jar bouquets on a window shelf in the Potting Shed.

A vintage flower frog is supporting American flags. . .

While other flags are waving from Stars & Stripes bouquets.

Celebrate the Stars & Stripes with Berry Trifles!

These no-bake mason jar desserts are an easy and delicious way to celebrate the Red, White and Blueberry!

Ball Stars & Stripes Jars are filled with flowers and patriotic treats, topped mini American flags for an easy 4th of July centerpiece.

I love the use of the flower frog!! Now on the hunt for one. So clever. I pinned 4 or 5 pins to my boards, Clever Ideas (the frog), Transferware (I have all of those dishes too), Terrific Tabletops, and Pictures That Tickle My Fancy. Beautiful photos-all! God bless the red, white and blue!
I knew June 14th was Flag Day but I didn’t know the flag went through 26 different versions first.

I would use them for picnics — pasta salad, dessert, etc. My husband and I both enjoy picnics and one of our favorite things to do is throw a lunch in the cooler and just head out to an area we have never been before, enjoy the ride, the scenery, whatever else we encounter and then just find a spot to enjoy our picnic. Your beautiful vignettes and recipes are always an inspiration. Thanks.

Hi! I love scrolling through your posts…my faves are patriotic ones. I use ball jars for crafts, weddings, storage in my cupboards…love cupcake wrappers they are so colorful! I love desserts in them…we made individual ones for Thanksgiving in the short square jars last year. So fun. And of course…for flower bouquets of every kind! Thanks for all the great inspirational photos!

I love anything with red, white and blue and you had me at the title of this post. I started pinning your pics to my ‘Americana’ file on Pinterest before you said to pin. Love the American-made Ball jars and they are used here for everything from leftovers to flowers to lemonade or iced tea. What a wonderful first read this Monday morning. Thank you Mary.

  21. June 10, 2019 at 7:28 am

What a lovely post! I love the ball jars! They would make a terrific addition to my pair of 1776 commemorative ball jar mugs. Then I could use them all as drinking glasses when I set my dining table. What great conversation pieces they would be and a reminder of the privilege we have to live in this country!!

Mary.. have long been following you and have broken the bank with all your wonderful ideas.. thanks for sharing. We fly our ‘OleGlory’ everyday to remind us and all passing that Freedom is Not Free! We have went through many flags in the 38 years of marriage and turn the tattered ones over to the local VFW. They in turn have the proper ceremony in conjunction with the Boy Scouts to destroy them. Thanks for the great ideas and keep them coming!

Love the jars! I would use them for serving strawberry shortcake to guests on our deck overlooking the Ozark Mountains at our hundred year old condo in Fayetteville, AR. I have red-handled flatware and red and white check tablecloths and can seat 25 people on the deck for a patriotic event! At night I would use them as table decorations by putting tiny battery powered lights in them so they would make the designs sparkle!

WOW!! I would love to add those Patriotic Ball Jars to my collection…although I have many other Ball jars that I use for canning..I use my collector jars for treats, flowers, crafts or just as some color in a display! I proud to live in the State that produced a lot of Ball Jars…INDIANA!! Flag week is celebrated widely here, at least at our home it is! Thanks for the extra ideas on some uses….and long May she wave!!! Good luck everyone! 🇺🇸🍀🇺🇸🍀🇺🇸🍀🇺🇸

Good Morning Mary, Oh my, how would I use the Patriotic Ball Jars so many ways. Most likely the next time our Community Independent Day is celebrated at our house, I will put red, white and blue flowers and flags in them on tables. So count me in. The last time we hosted it I used many of your ideas to decorate as well as giving sparklers to all of the children. They had so much fun with them. I am an email subscriber and pinned the berry trifle recipe to my sweets board. I do have a question on another matter. I loved your Black Eyed Susan vine so much that I bought one, problem is great vine but not many flowers, Wpuld you recommend phosphorus? Thanks

I love canning jars and although it may seem blase compared to fixing deserts and making flower arrangements my favorite use is still to can in them. I know its old fashion but I still believe one of the prettiest sites of summer is a long row of freshly canned fruits and vegetables. This summer I want to try canning homemade pie filling rather than freezing the mixture.

    June 10, 2019 at 9:29 am

    Beautiful as always Mary.
Love Ball jars, especially the vintage one I have many. Love them of course for canning my tomatoes (and I still can tomatoes. I’m a dying breed).
But I also use them as flower vases and storage.
Thanks for introducing this collection to us and your giveaway.

  44. June 10, 2019 at 9:30 am

I live your patriotic spirit, Mary, and the jar giveaway is wonderful of you. I think they make charming vases, but I use them for canning jam and for other things. I’ll be copying your pretty red, white and blue arrangement after my tea party flowers die. Thank you for your inspiration. 😘🇺🇸😘

Great to know so many decorate with red, white and blue. I have all mine out for the entire summer.
I pinned several items to my boards- Summer Breeze and In the Kitchen-Desserts and Goodies. The Berry Trifles recipe was a plus because I was looking for a new desserts to make for summer cookouts beside the normal flag strawberry poke cake. I think everyone will love having them served from mason jars instead of the normal paper plate dessert. Thanks so much for that idea!
I would absolutely love new Stars and Stripes Ball jars to add to my collection. I use my jars year round for decorating with flowers ( I have the green, blue and purple sets along with several unique ones I have found here and there). These would look fantastic along with my blue ones on my mantel and on my porch table in my milk crate.
Thanks also for the continued galvanized tray ideas. You inspired me with another post to get one and decorate at the same time with all my seasonal items. Gives new life to my table besides just flowers or a bowl of fruit.

  58. June 10, 2019 at 10:53 am

Hi Mary> I am a longtime fan! I love ball jars!! I use them for drinks such as iced tea, mimosas, sangria or punch. I use them for decor with flowers, flags, succulents, jar filler, feathers, and anything else I can think of. I have occasionally used them for treats or even desserts. I need to try a salad sometime. I have used jars for favors filled with orange butter, strawberry butter, treats, dog bones, plants, treats and again anything else I can think of. It all depends on the need or the season. I was thinking of a fireworks type of decoration for this one. I have not seen these jars yet. They are very fun and somewhat subtle. Thanks for all your ideas!

I pinned the pic of the Ball jars & the pic of the
al fresco table covered in that cute paisley print cloth that looks like a bandana. It’s pinned to my “Independence Day” board. I’m always on the lookout for anything red, white & blue, and any patriotic decor. I have a great fondness for Ball jars. There are many, from gallon size to pint size, on open shelves in my craft/sewing room serving as storage, as well as adding a decorative touch. I also use Ball jars for vases, planting succulents, storing pasta & beans, holding eating utensils, as drink glasses, serving desserts, and especially for the purpose they were originally made – canning. I love that satisfying popping sound made as the lids seal on my homemade salsa, veggies, relishes and jellies! I would be delighted to receive the new version of the Stars & Stripes Ball Jars. Thank you for the opportunity. I so enjoy reading your blog – the recipes, the decor inspiration, the sweet pup pics, and all the eye candy in your beautiful photos of your tablescapes, landscapes, and that darling garden shed. Keep it all coming!

Mary, my patriotic loving heart is singing with this wonderful post full of flags and red, white, and blue. My home looks like an Uncle Sam Convention. I’ve collected Uncle Sam folk art pieces and flags for decades. I promise I’ve not added one new one this year! If I see one that catches my eye, he ask to come to the annual convention, and of course I say YES! Lady Liberty jumped in too over the years. You know we can’t descriminate on gender, so we allow them to join the convention. I’ll be posting on IG everyday this week, to celebrate National Flag Week. My younger brother was born on Flag Day, so that’s a celebration too!
    Happy National Flag Week!!!!

For the summer holiday season I would use them for flower arrangements and small U. S. flags for the porch. I think some patriotic pie filling would also be appropriate canned in the jars as a hostess gift. A triple berry pie filling using strawberries or cherries, blackberries, and blueberries would echo the patriotic theme. I love your blog! Thanks for sharing your creativity!

We fly the flag every day except when the weather is bad. Today it’s raining here, so there are small flags in the flowerpot in the entry way. I can so Ball jars are a staple here. I’m lucky enough to have some that belonged to my husband’s grandmother. These are used as decoration holding any things from flowers, flags, buttons, small decorative eggs. I can’t imagine my kitchen without Ball jars. Can’t wait to get the new ones.

Thanks for a lovely post. Fly the flag, folks, it’s meant to be seen.

Since I was a former winner of the beautiful blue vintage jars you gave away a few years back , I’ll pass, but say thank you again as I love them and smile each time I use them and think of you! Because I like how pretty your floral arrangements (even simple cuttings) look in your Mason jars; if I were to win a set, I would use them to hold flowers cut from my yard.

I would use the ball jars for both storage, decorative storage and flowers. I am so excited that flag week finally arrived, with the fourth not far behind. I have been collecting red, white and blue decorations for my year for a long time. I can hardly wait to deck this place out.

Hi, Mary! I love your blog, but have never commented before. I especially love your patriotic posts. My whole downstairs is decorated in Americana from the time the Easter decorations get put away till the Halloween decorations come out. I have some of the same things you have – my “Liberty Blue” dishes are displayed on my dining room hutch, I just bought the Pfalzgraff “Americana” flatware at Christmas Tree Shops the week before Memorial Day and have it on my dining room table with my Coventry “Liberty” dishes. I also have the melamine star shaped plates you have on your tiered tray. I have some small red and blue star shaped wax melts (that I never melt!) in one of my Liberty Blue berry bowls, but I think they would look great in a Ball jar, although I’m sure my grandchildren would think it was much better to have a jar filled with red, white & blue M&Ms!

Thanks for all of your wonderful posts. You are so creative, and I get a lot of ideas on new ways to use things I already have and, of course, lots of things you make me want to run out and buy!

Hi Mary – Happy Flag Day!! Loving the Stars and Stripes Ball Jars. I always have a family cookout for the Fourth and can think of many uses for the Ball Jars but I think I would probably use them to make a special fancy red, white and blue dessert with pudding, Grahams and patriotic m&m’s and whipped cream and rwb sprinkles ! I think my grandchildren, Brooke and Myles, would be so.surprised ! Hugs, Dorinda

Hi, Mary. SInce I am an avid marble collector, I would use the jars with layers of red, white, and blue marbles–in the den and breakfast room. I would add flags to the marbles and tie on a gingham ribbon, for a simple decoration/centerpiece! I live alone, but always try to have a nice table scape even if it is just for one. Thank you for your immense kindness in sharing your home, family, talents and gifts with your readers.
