My dream she shed is decorated like an English cottage and would serve as a little getaway space to read and hopefully write a book. I have been blessed with three wonderful sons and a terrific husband who don’t seem to enjoy floral fabrics and my teapot collection , I think a she shed would be my place to indulge in all of the things I love !

Your potting shed has been inspiration for my she shed dreams for a few years now. The first photo in your post is so close to what I plan to build! I want a combination potting shed and greenhouse, filled with light! A refuge from the world and a home for my orchids & wintered-over geraniums. One bleak snowy day I drove down a road and saw big bursts of color from flowers in the window of a she shed, and it made my day. I’ve been saving & planning ever since!

Mary, I found your blog via Pinterest through photos of your Potting Shed and I’ve been a fan ever since! I love that the first She Shed book showcased your sweet shed. I would love to have a shed but unfortunately our HOA won’t allow it. My brother and SIL have a lot of acreage and she is in the planning stages of building one. I’ll forward this post to her. It looks like the book is a great source of inspiration!
I do not have a she-shed, but I dream of having one. When thrifting, I have accumulated a number of small gardening items to use in a shed. My most recent find was an old metal box with a lid and imprinted with the word “bulbs.” My shed would be used for potting and for afternoon tea with friends. We call ourselves the “4 Creative Sisters.” We are sisters in spirit.
My She Shed was set in place this past Monday. It has a little corner porch where I hope to have tea with my Granddaughters. It looks adorable in the back corner of the yard.
What a wonderful giveaway but I must withdraw my name since I have recently won the Stars and Stripes Ball Jars. The pages you featured are just dreamy. My husband and I bought our 1920 home 14 years ago. There were two sheds on the property and he claimed the largest for a workshop where he could do the woodworking necessary to restore the house. The smaller shed was suppose to be my garden shed but it soon started to fill up with boat accessories. With the house complete several years ago he put new siding, windows and roof on my shed, but it was still overflowing with his things. Last year he did the same to his shed and enclosed the adjacent carport for my car. That’s when I began the eviction process and cleaned out my shed, I refinished several pieces of cabinetry which were original to kitchen and began using it as a garden shed. Now all of my tools and supplies are neatly stored and organized and I no longer have to search for anythine and you Mary have been the inspiration for the project. THANK YOU
I actually have 2 she sheds. One is for crafting and the other is a potting shed. My husband built both of them for me. They are both 10×12 and the perfect size for what I use them for. I absolutely love your she shed. It’s adorable!!!

How I love everything about your she-shed! I don’t have one, maybe one day! I would have an overstuffed chair and ottoman to use for curling up with a good book. I would surround myself with flowers, birdhouses, a bird bath, and some sort of water feature for the sound. And wind chimes, can’t forget those! Add in a little table to hold my iced tea and shortbread cookies and I will be all set. Oh wait, I need a kitty or two to curl up with! OK, now I’m set!

A She shed is at the top of my bucket list!! A girl can dream, can’t she? We just sold our big home and moved into a condo/golf community!! But wouldn’t a She Shed be a great gathering spots for day dreaming, gardening, put up some tables and bring your Ukulele for a jam session, or play Mahjongg!! I would host a 🎈 🎉 a party for all the gals around here!! My Book Club would love it too!! My big yellow lab would love a new lounge spot too!! In the meantime, I will live vicariously through your posts of your shed and enjoy it’s beauty as it speaks right to my heart!! Thanks for sharing your talents with us!!

Mary, your site and style is always an inspiration…I do not have a SHE SHED but if I had the book, I could accidentally put it on my HUBS desk and he’ll look at it and maybe give him the idea!! Um…I’m dreaming of a HE shed? My husband is the gardener in our family and he’s about to build a potting shed/greenhouse which will be visible from the street. I’m hoping it won’t look too utilitarian and would offer him the book as inspiration. He’s very creative and I know he would both appreciate the help and use it. I understand, though, if you prefer to give the books to a she.

What a wonderful way to start my day, I love when I see a new post from you pop up in my email! I would love to have a she shed, my lanai is my makeshift “she space”. I love rustic, vintage items that don’t really flow with my interior style, a she shed would be perfect to for those items. The book looks amazing! I love seeing how other women decorate their spaces and am so inspired by them. I love your potting shed and all your seasonal decor.
I have a storage barn that I have dreamt of making into a She Shed! This looks like a great book with lots of inspiration!
I converted my unfinished carport into a garden room/she shed. It now has a fountain, chandelier and 2 ceiling fans and opens into my black aluminum fenced yard. I built columns around the metal poles and added a bead board ceiling. I have church pews as seating for the table I designed so friends and family can enjoy it as well. It’s the perfect place for morning coffee and listening to the water falling from the urn. My house is over 100 years old so I would love to add old windows and French doors to one side so it can be enjoyed in cooler weather as well.
I have a shed. We call it the Garden House because it is where we keep all our garden supplies. I do love all your ideas to pretty it up. I can plant around the outside to make it pretty. Thanks
Looks like a darling book! So fun to watch your shed mature, I always remember the crane relocating you, that was pure love! I am patiently waiting for my greenhouse, until rose garden done no new projects and I will be lucky to get that done this year with a part time project manager on site. Just FYI, I copied your idea of hanging watering cans from a chain in my antique booth. It is a space saver, attention getting idea! Thank you for the inspiration, I feel it has boosted sales. Doubtful that I will have a she shed as most of my creative energy goes into my booth, but I do enjoy looking.
Have always wanted a “doll house” (she shed) to play in. There will be no work done in it even if I’m so tired at the end of the day from playing that I can’t get back to the house to sleep. There is absolutely nothing in the the world more fun than getting to use your imagination in a place that’s your very own. Mine would have a wood fireplace so I could hear the cracking fire, a rocking chair, a soft yummy place to take a nap, lots of light and music. A place to draw and paint, etc etc, etc.
I do have a She Shed! It started life in 1968 as my childhood playhouse. My dad and grandfather built it in the backyard. We moved soon after and daddy had it moved to our new home where it was used as a storage shed for 42 years. My wonderful husband and friend moved it 75 miles after the death of my dad. It was quite a sight to see as it crossed over a freeway! We remodeled it and it is now a charming rustic potting/she shed nestled behind our house where I can see and use it everyday.

I would love to have a she shed so I could go out with my two Golden Retrievers and just set and relax. It hard being alone when you are the only one at home after losing my husband of 44 years. This is a beautiful book. IAM sure you are very proud of it.
I don’t have one but would love to. I would use it to display decorations that I love but don’t look right in my house. And sometimes they look right but I have an overflow 🥴😁. Thank you for sharing your She Shed and all your many inspirations! Now that my back yard is a blank slate thanks to the March 3rd tornado that forever changed our lives and our community, we have many opportunities to make our 120 year old property the beautiful again, but our way. I see a She Shed nestled under Palm Trees and the Mimosa tree, the only trees that remained standing, and surrounded by glorious gardens. My She Shed will be my corner to create so much beautiful!
Your potting shed was the inspiration for my she shed! My husband and sons built it for me. I use my shed for crafts, gardening supplies and in the attic space I store my Christmas decorations. I love to sit in the rocker on the little porch and read and listen to the birds….my little piece of heaven!!! My shed started a shed frenzy around town…LOL!
Mary, Thank you so much for the beautiful photos of SheSheds this morning! Such gorgeous inspiration! We had a farm with a she-shed that we just sold and I miss it so much. I am in the process of creating a new one on the property we just got and am taking it slow since I am sourcing materials that are all repurposed/used/thrifted! I love to dream about the completed project and can’t wait until mine is finished. I use mine for planting/potting and my morning bible studying and coffee sipping! I’ve never had a she-shed (yet), but if I ever have one, it will reflect my style and whimsy as of the moment. I won’t have to ask anyone else if they like/approve what I’ve chosen. It’s exciting to imagine something that is completely mine to create and decorate as the muse takes me.
Mary, your post has me dreaming of converting our shed into something far prettier. I always just thought the shed was for storing tools, pots, seeds, etc. But this idea of transforming a shed into a special place has me thinking about all kinds of idea. My “She Shed” is a desperate old storage shed that my husband squeezed our riding mower into. The door is broken, so I shimmy it open to store my pots and garden ornaments in and shimmy it closed and quickly put a padlock on it. My dream is to replace it with a cute, girly shed that I can also decorate as a reading nook. A girl can dream……
Wouldn’t every woman love their own SheShed??? I sure would. I have lovely gardens around our home, but no place to really just be me. To do what I want. Garden, Paint, Putter, Read. My husband built me a she shed, although I called it a garden house. 160 sq. ft, not including the loft. We collected windows, doors, and other builders materials for it seemed like years. To get the project going faster, one Christmas I asked for 2′ x 10′ for the floor..I knew a pile of wood sitting there would induce him to get started, and sure enough it did. I think he had fun with the whole project and the neighbor guys would stop by everyday to check it out…I could see he was pleased with his progress. There were blood, sweat and tears shed on my little house. My husband fell on the raftors while putting sheeting on the loft, he broke four ribs, bruised his spleen and punctured a lung…the tears were mine. We used A grade pine for the floors, and it was sheet rocked with open beams.I had a vintage patio set for dinners at one end, a day bed and wicker in the lounging area, with a chandelier and a crib spring hanging over the dining table. We added an a.c. unit, microwave, heater, coffee pot, and a dorm fridge for wine and mix for cocktails.Upstairs was a queen sized bed that my little Charlie and I enjoyed sleeping in sometimes. The thing that was not allowed was a clock, or phones. The stereo played all my fu fu music and there were many garden and decorating books.My husband would sometimes say, I’ll meet you in the playhouse at 6:00 sharp and I’ll bring the cocktails. lol Who knew a little house in the back yard would be such a retreat, a place I was able to recharge. We had a little grill back there and to house it we also built a fake outhouse with writings on the wall and phone numbers too. My dear husband passed in 2013 and our little piece of heaven with it’s 13 gardens, did not offer me the warm fuzzies I so needed, so I sold the house for hopefully a new beginning. I miss that little house, with all the memories, but, I packed those memories first and brought them with me. I so enjoy seeing all the she sheds, and the different purposes everyone has for theirs. I know for sure, the joy these little buildings also bring to other women, and it makes me smile, I wish every woman could have that little place of their own. I had a sign on the front of mine in French, “Little house built with love” and it was.
Oh, yes, I have a she shed that hubby built about 20 years ago. I am kind and let him have half of it for his riding lawn mower, rakes, wheelbarrow, etc. Haha. My half is darling and has shelves with canning jars holding dried flowers, a few antique garden tools with other gardening items, mixed with some cute birdhouses and collected abandoned birds nests. I salvaged a small desk that has cubbie holes and one belly drawer and love it too. Two years ago I found an antique beveled glass window that was just the right size and we replaced the stationary window with it, so now it swings open to allow fresh breezes to come in. I love my double doors and porch area where I have a small wicker love seat and rocker. Hubby likes to join me there after a day in the yard and it is very relaxing to sit back and look at all the good work that has been accomplished. Your shed is always my favorite feature of your blog followed closely by the pontoon boat! Love them both! Would enjoy this book very much. Thank you Mary! 🐝🌹
I would love to have a she shed and maybe I will one of these days! I would use it as a retreat and decorate using a coastal theme with blue, green and beige. The beach is a magical place for me!
What a wonderful book! I have been an avid reader of your blog for years and I am particularly fond of your garden and she-shed. I too live in Lake Norman and have a Certified Wildlife Habitat Garden with many wonderful perennials for the pollinators as well as a destination for birds and furry critters. I even feed the squirrels. I would love to meet sometime and perhaps give you a tour of my garden and see yours in person. Thank you for the constant inspirations!
I do not have a she shed. I would love to have a place to relax and dream as I look out on my garden. A place to have tea for two, a place for inspiration and creativity. I love your blog and dream of some day having a little place of my own.
Once Upon A Time .. there was the most wonderful little ‘She Shed by the She-Shore’ .. at a beach cottage along a Sandy Dune, My first set of ‘grandkidz’ enjoyed collecting shells and lining them up on a window Sill … I planted pots of Sun-loving flowers that looked out to Sea. Those grandz are now grown with families of their own
Now we have a ‘second set’ of grandz and live on a lovely lake in a small “castle” that we call home. (Lost Lake Castle). Our small back yard overflows with trees and ground cover and I have turned it into a child-sized Fairie Forest with large ‘mushrooms and toadstools’ for sitting upon, children’s benches and a small picnic bench for ‘tea and cookies’ …. “Lost Lake Fairie Forest” is filled with lots of ‘fairies’ and ‘fairie villages’ at the edges of large ferns and hostas. There is a 3-foot castle where the King and Queen Fairies live surrounded by a moon garden that is tended by gentle gnomes … a smaller castle that the Wizard and his Wife call home and conjure up ‘happy spells’ for visiting children. There is a corral for Unicorns and Pegasuses. Ohhh, and yes, a Dragon Lair too! A Mermaids Treasure chest at the edge of the lake filled with little treasures the mermaids have brought up from the bottom of the lake for visiting children. There is a ‘magic stone path that wanders through the forest that ‘the Fairie god-Mother always sprinkles with ‘sparkly fairie dust’ when my grandz and their friends arrive for Tea Parties and Art Classes in the forest among the fairies. My dream is to have a small “she-fairie-shed’ to fill with shade-loving woodland plants and flowers where the children can learn about taking care of the earth and the water, the birds, bees, butterflies and all of nature.
For the she shed I am dreaming of, I would make one end of the shed a hidden wall decorated with a mural of some sort that when opened would house lots of shelves to hold all my seasonal decorations for the garden and shed. This will help me to keep my shed clutter free and cozy. One can dream!
A She Shed is still a dream for me. If I ever have one it will be for piddling in every direction the notion takes 🤔 From gardening to painting. My husband says I am an expert piddler.

Mary, I do have a She Shed that I love! It’s filled with antique furniture and dishes!!! Most items in my She Shed were purchased at garage sales, flea markets, and thrift shops. I’ve had several gatherings of close friends for lunch and/or brunch. We enjoy it so much that we’ve spent hours after lunch talking and laughing. It’s a wonderful place to relax. I have the original book and would love to have this second one. My She Shed started out as a shell of a storage building from Home Depot, but you’d never guess that now! I love your blog and find so much inspiration from you! Thanks for continuing to make my day!!!

I do NOT have a shed and desperately need one! The lawn and garden equipment have overtaken my garage and displaced the cars. I’m dreaming of a space that would allow room for storage, along with a separate area for relaxing.
My husband and I share a shed. So, I have 1/2 of a she shed! It is not as beautiful as yours but, it is a decorative little spot to do my gardening and seed starting chores. When I am working in the shed, my back is to all of his stuff so it feels like the space is mine.

I have had a shed, nothing fancy, just functional. In 2 homes. One was big, wooden, but on a hill and hard for short me to get into. My first one was small, on a dirt floor and made of clear corrugated plastic. I am in a house that has a need for a shed. I have been going back and forth between functional and cute. I hope to have a little of both. I mainly want one for a few gardening supplies and a space to winterize my many potted plants. But I am a lover of the garden and garden-ish stuff. It would be fun and comforting to have to have it a little fancy.

Good Morning! I love reading your posts daily, and this one is no exception. I do remember when your potting shed was featured in her first book. I have always wanted a she shed, but currently do not have one. In a few years we are planning to move to Coastal North Carolina, and it is a dream of mine to have one then. Coastal farmhouse would be ideal, with neutral garden tones. I can only dream of sipping tea and wine of course while relaxing with a good book or a friend or two. Of course, I am sure that I will squeeze in some gardening as well! Thank you agin for such a lovely post, as always.

Swwooooonn!!!! I absolutely love my She Shed!!! I originally used it for just gardening projects but now I use it for gardening, entertaining and my get-a-way relaxation place. It is such a fun, warm and cozy space. My husband built it for me years ago complete with a barn shape, skylights, beams and a sink with running water. The walls and ceiling are lined with cedar so when you’re in there it feels really warm and smells heavenly. Over the years we have added custom cabinets, tile flooring and cement tile counters. We also installed a glass front wood stove and I found a large galvanized bread rack that holds my firewood. A vintage octagon wood hutch lights up when you open it that we use as a bar. I stripped a metal light with farm animal cutouts to its original galvanized state, removed the light shades and added vintage Edison lights. I had two twin metal vintage beds transformed into benches that I use around a wooden foldout table for dining. I have two rocking chairs in front of the stove, one is wood Amish and the other a vintage outdoor metal rocking chair complete with a drink holder in the arm. A wood and metal bakers rack and potting bench hold treasures and the walls are lined with artwork and gardening tools. It is so fun to have a place that you can work in but also let your imagination run wild and be creative in. The next project is to add a porch and gardens around it. Now if I could only get him to build that greenhouse…….lol.
Hi Mary i dont have a She Shed. I would use mine to decorate my tablescapes, have intimate dinners with my husband, read and do girlfriend lunches. Thanks for sharing the books. Hope Im one of the lucky winners.

It’s a salvage she shed, I used old windows and doors on the out side and I have salvaged hardwood flooring for the inside when I get to that point. I also intend to have running water from a rain barrel that catches water from the tin roof so I can wash up after potting. I have some furniture to put in there and my garden tools.

Mary, I just love your she shed! It’s decorated beautifully. I have a cabin she shed with a nice porch that I share with rescued pets in a small section of it. It’s more utilitarian right now but hope to make it prettier on the inside (we have curtains so that’s a start 😉) once insulated & the floor is tiled by my hubby. Working on how I want it to look on the inside which is a bit of a fun challenge. I’m using Pinterest as inspiration currently & your posts of course! In this heat, Lola will enjoy the open airy feeling of her bench but that bed looks inviting for the cooler weather. Our pets are hanging out in the wicker baskets attached to decorative bikes (not their intended purpose but the fur babies win!) or on our airy loungers. Have a great day! Clara ❤️
I have always wanted a potting shed. I love to look at pictures of she sheds, especially yours. It fits my style. The book would just give me more fodder for daydreaming of my own. If I had my shed, I would decorate it with my favorite vintage garden tools and pots. In the winter, I would be able to work on maintaining houseplants and while away the day dreaming of the summer to come.
What a great new book! I do have a she- shed but mine isn’t as great as yours! Mine is very old, older than our 1940 house. We were told the original owners moved it here on a flatbed truck from their farm. I use it strictly for potting and storage. The do love it and find it a privilege it have it!
Haha! Hubby and I just had the discussion this morning about the Greenhouse. I’m laid up with a bad knee, and I said, “I can’t wait to do something cute with the greenhouse!” Followed by hubby…”WHAT???” so I’m sending him your post and see if we can start a dialogue.

I love your posts and your wonderful Potting Shed! I would like to win the book for a dear friend of mine who “lost” her She-Shed last fall due to “old age” ! She also lives on a lake and every day she would post the lake temperature for the kayakers and pontoons passing by! Hi Mary! I do have a small storage shed that i pretend is my she-shed. It does have a wreath on the door and is in my enclosed patio at my townhome. Mostly I store gardening tools and pots in it. I would like to take it up a notch though and this book is the perfect inspiration. My sister has a larger stand alone shed that she is getting ready to rehab and add on a small porch off of the front…. it will be her special potting shed. Oh I would love a she shed! I could use it to put all my sewing and stitching crafts in. Would have a big lock on it and not allow my husband to come in! Plus a couple of big comfy chairs and a mini fridge for my Diet Dr. Pepper. I could read all day and sew all night!

My shed would have a spot for Ella’s ( puppy) bed next to my old rocker. A potting bench for rooting, my books and most importantly morning devotions. The book is so filled with ideas…wow!

I don’t have a she-shed per se, what I have is a covered patio room – I have old windows and wood to make it into a “shed” room but haven’t yet – everytime I get ready to the hummingbirds who fly in right to my face makes me hesitate to wall up……but……I think it will happen soon. I use mine as my very own girlie space – I have white wicker furniture and a metal candleiere and pretty floral tablecloth – it is where I take my gal pal visitors when Ohio weather cooperates, it is always where i have my morning coffee unless it is reallllly raining – it’s where I sit and watch storms roll in, and many times sat through them taking in the glorious smell of a rainstorm. I watch sunsets from there, LOVE to treat a friend to a girlie afternoon tea and cake time there..and I have read countless books from there.
I need to post about it cuz my “zen room” has been cleaned up and is fresh and very pretty – but here is an old post about it to at least give you an idea how it used to look

Hi Mary, I do have a shed which is used to house my push mower, garden tools, seasonal outdoor décor and in the winter months (live in Ohio) my shed is used to store my patio chairs.
Now if I had a shed that was a blank canvas, I would use it as a potting station, get-away reading nook and a day dreaming sanctuary; just a fun spot in my back yard.
Of U had a she shed I would use it to relax and enjoy my garden. I would also use it for a potting shed and have a space to enjoy brunch with the gals.

My She Shed is not a separate building, but a room in our barn that was originally storage. I just finished it this Spring and I call it My Room of Creativity. Everything I love is in there, my wicker settee and lovely pillows, lace curtains, all my decorating and garden books. I am a 24/7 caregiver, so having a place of my own to escape to was so important. It has a large table that I use for crafts or potting plants, I found your blog from pictures on Pinterest when my room was still in the planning faze. You have been such an inspiration!
If I won a copy of this book, I’d get inspired to get my first she shed built! I would use it for space near our fire pit for entertaining. I love the outdoors and this would be an extension of the outside with protection from wind or rain! In the winter, it would house plants for the spring. I do not have a she shedd but would love to have one near my raised beds. It would be so convenient to keep my tools . My granddaughter and I painted a mailbox to keep small items in. The timing of your latest post is just perfect as I am in the midst of converting a small/medium sized garden shed in my “She Shed”. It is set in the corner of my back yard and I have room for a walkway between rose bushes along a fence leading up the to door. I have just purchased a beautiful dogwood for the other side of the pathway. The plan for the inside will be wicker furniture and small table for luncheon with one girl friend at a time. There will be Victorian frills and potted plants everywhere. I am so looking forward to many hours of peaceful relaxation in my “She Shed”. Thank you for doing the giveaway. ~m

I have a shed, our old chicken coop…transformed, of course…still a work in progress. It still needs a porch area to relax and watch the dogs play. Inside walls are not completed. And….I haven’t found the right inspiration yet for the decor and use😕
Lots of She Shed love here Mary, but yours will always be my favorite! I don’t think anyone gets as much joy as you do with their she sheds! Yes, Lola needs a big white fluffy poof to lounge on! I do love the one with the drop down door/bar/shelf, very cool!

Mary, you always have such great ideas and advice, amazing photography, and useful links! We bought a kit to build a shed, and I am very excited to personalize it. My husband and I will be sharing it, so my first decor idea was to put a sign that says “He Shed, She Shed” over the door! We have multiple functions in mind, including gardening, entertaining, and crafting/diy. I will be looking for ideas on how to hide work around having a lawnmower in it that needs to go in and out frequently, ha! My hope is to eventually add an annex to one side of the shed that will hold the big ugly stuff! Love so many of the ideas shown here. The drop-down sideways door especially stood out! I can think of so many ways to use that! I am following the link you provided for more inspiration and hope to win one of the books.

We have the perfect spot on our property where I have dreamed of putting one. I “think” I would lean more towards the shabby chic look with a vintage chandelier (or two), a cozy, dreamy reading nook and book shelves, a day bed for naps that make you feel like you’re on vacation, and a small table and chairs to host lots and lots of “Tea for Two” times with girlfriends, my daughter, granddaughter, soon to be daughter-in-law, and my husband! There would be a lovely garden all around (I love, love, love yours!). Plus, there is a very nice spot to have a nearby secluded, small bistro dining area and bench seat, with string lights above of course! I love the idea of a “She Shed”. We FINALLY bought our lake house Mary here in SE Texas and we absolutely love it. The woman who built this house was a master gardener and her front is gorgeous, overgrown now as the house was unlived in for almost a year. I cannot wait to get settled inside so I can get outside and get into the garden! Down below on the back of the house is the “golf cart” garage, BUT it could be turned into my She Shed. I would love to have a chance for a copy of this book – I would need garden space for all of my gardening tools, which I know don’t often “fit” into the she shed “idea” but I like things organized and in 1 place. I would love a big comfy chair or chaise lounge for reading, windows to see my gorgeous lake view, a sink, a potting or craft table. Gee – the possibilities are endless. I hope I win!

No I don’t have one but I sure would love to. I would have fun decorating it and then just sit back and relax and read in it. It would be fun decorating with things that might not look right in my house but that I love to look at.

I have always used her as my space and have decorated her in many different styles over the years.
