Happy Fall!

I’m welcoming my favorite season with an Apple Spice Wreath!

DIY Apple Spice Wreath | ©homeiswheretheboatis.net #fall #wreath #apples #DIY

The inspiration for this wreath came from my September catalog from Balsam Hill.

Inspiration Balsam Hill Apple Spice Wreath | ©homeiswheretheboatis.net #fall #wreath #apples #DIY

I fell in love with this Apple Spice Wreath as soon as I saw it, but not the $199 price tag.

To create my version of this wreath, I started with two wreaths I already had; a 24-inch grapevine wreath and a leaf wreath that I disassembled, originally part of a Happy Haunting on my Potting Shed door. If you don’t have a leaf wreath you can achieve the same look using a grapevine wreath and fall leaf stems or branches from the craft store.

Supplies DIY Apple Spice Wreath | ©homeiswheretheboatis.net #fall #wreath #apples #DIY

Additional materials used to create this Apple Spice Wreath:

🍎 Chenille Stems (already had, leftover from my Blooming Spring Wreath)

🍎 Apples, large and small (large apples found on Amazon, small apples at Hobby Lobby)

🍎 Dried Limelight Hydrangeas, from garden –> see my PSA, Plant a Limelight Hydrangea or Five

🍎 Craft Cinnamon Sticks (Hobby Lobby)

🍎 Craft Fall Leaves (Hobby Lobby)

🍎 Fall Floral Mum Bush (Hobby Lobby)

🍎 Hot Glue Gun and Glue Sticks

I fastened the two wreaths together, securing them using chenille stems. . .

DIY Apple Spice Wreath | ©homeiswheretheboatis.net #fall #wreath #apples #DIY

Next, I pulled the mum blooms off the stems.

The cinnamon sticks I found were 10″ long, so I broke them in half.

To begin, place your items on your wreath to see how you want them spaced,

then plug in your glue gun and go to work!

DIY Apple Spice Wreath | ©homeiswheretheboatis.net #fall #wreath #apples #DIY

Tip: When using a hot glue gun, have an emergency glass of ice water

available in case you get hot glue on your fingers. . . *ouch*

Tip for using dried hydrangeas! | ©homeiswheretheboatis.net #fall #wreath #DIY

If you’re using dried hydrangeas on your wreath, spritz them with some aerosol hairspray

first to help keep them from shattering and the papery blooms intact.

DIY Apple Spice Wreath | ©homeiswheretheboatis.net #fall #wreath #apples #DIY

Here’s the finished wreath. . .bonus, the cinnamon sticks provide an aroma of apple spice!

When the fragrance from the cinnamon sticks start to fade or if you want to boost the fragrance,

add a few drops of cinnamon oil to refresh the sticks,

available with the candle or soap making supplies at the craft store.

DIY Apple Spice Wreath | ©homeiswheretheboatis.net #fall #wreath #apples #DIY

Balsam Hill’s wreath is 28 inches and mine is 24 inches but instead of $200, I spent $28.

All the supplies I bought at Hobby Lobby were on sale.

Love your wreath!! It came out looking gorgeous!! I adore that you used apples. Many concentrate on pumpkins in the Fall and forget about apples!! Thanks for sharing!!

Looks great, was just thinking about using my real apples for a wreath this week myself! I can’t wait for the color change, I think I have two months to go!

HI Mary – Fall has never been my favorite season …. I adore Spring. However, this wreath is a mind-changer! I love it and now that we live near a Hobby Lobby I can already see it on our front door. Thank you for the inspiration!

As usual, I love your ability to create beautiful things. The apple wreath is gorgeous. The large apples look so realist it is hard to believe that they aren’t crisp and juicy.

Love your Apple Spice Wreath! Yours is much prettier than the Balsam Hill one for a fraction off the cost. I think I might try to recreate yours for a touch of fall, though temps are still in the 90s here in the south. Thanks for so much inspiration every time I open your blog post, Mary.

I LOVE your 🍎 wreath, Mary, and what a savings!! Your tutorial is wonderful, and looks so pretty on your door. Using apples instead of pumpkins is perfect for Fall. Happy 1st day of Fall to you! 😘

So very clever, but I wouldn’t expect anything less of you. Thanks for the inspiration and directions. I dried hydrangeas to use on my breakfast room table for this coming weekends homes tour but think I will have some left to add to a wreath for my Potting Shed Door. I recently found a metal Potting Shed sign in a consignment shop, so this would be a nice addition. Off to the attic in search of grapevine wreaths and apples. Thanks so much Mary.

What would we do without Hobby Lobby! This is beautiful Mary, and much prettier than the pricey inspiration wreath! I know it must smell divine…apples are the iconic symbol of early fall, I just love this! Now, if only we could get those fall temps…

Beautiful wreath with the apples. I was just reading about all the new varieties that are to hit the markets this fall and thinking about apple pies and dumplings! Now seeing that wreath makes me salivate for the cinnamon and apples! You are one talented lady!

Oh my goodness! I like yours the best. Beautiful job. Now to Hobby Lobby…….

  29. September 23, 2019 at 11:11 am

Your wreath is so beautiful. It really does give you the feeling of fall. If you don’t have a fall leaf wreath, you could always attach a fall leaf garland to a wreath form to make the second wreath. You could also, just attach to the 1st wreath and then add all your other materials.
Just a thought. But love, love your wreath
    Happy Fall!!🍁🍂

As long as my home is filled with an apple-cinnamon scent, it’s officially fall…even if the fall weather eludes us!

Do you dry your hydrangea’s in a machine or merely hang them up to dry? Do you place any preservatives on the cut stem? I wasn’t aware that a spritz of hair spray was beneficial, but I’m going to give it a try!

Thank you for the lovely nod to Apple season! Happy Fall!

    • September 23, 2019 at 3:05 pm

Hi Betsy, I think the key to drying them is cutting them at the right time. Cut them when they start to become ‘papery’ to the touch. I usually cut them put them in a vase with a little water to enjoy inside and then let them go from there. No machine, preservative or hanging. Happy Fall ♥

Looks good enough to eat! Very inviting and comforting look. I especially like the full roundness of it. I can’t abide wreaths that have big empty asymmetrical unbalanced gaps in them. More is more. You made something so lovely and inspiring.
