Dear December. . . you got away from me this year. With Thanksgiving falling late, I had one less week in a very busy month to decorate, shop and bake. . .
Even the Christmas cards are late to be mailed this year!
I have to confess that my Potting Shedwas treated like the red-headed stepchild this December.
The first Christmas she hasn’t been merry and bright . . .
And decked with fresh greenery.
Instead receiving some bright and shiny ornaments for Christmas, she got a lump of coal.
Feathering her nest is usually on the top of my list of things to do in December. . .
And counting down the days with an advent calendar to wing my way through December is a favorite activity I missed this year. . .
December just flew by too quickly!
It takes the better part of a week and foraging for a boatload of greenery to deck the halls, both inside and out. . .
A labor of love, but one that gives me a great deal of joy when it’s done.
So this year I’m sharing the Potting Shed ‘Ghost of Christmas Past’. . .
And I’m sprinkling in some greenery and Christmas cheer from previous Decembers.
I promised I’d make it up to her and spruce her up early next December. . .
And give her a refresh this winter. . .
So the birds to have a place to roost and enjoy some treats.

My favorite is the GHOST OF CHRISTMAS PAST!! There is always something special in the past that we like to relive!!! There’s a lot to like in your Potting Sheds Past!! Merry Christmas!! 🎄🎁
Mary, I enjoyed the past Christmases at the Potting Shed. It seems that we all ran out of time this year and that is ok! I am now in the baking mode and plan to take afternoons to read and drink hot chocolate! Merry Christmas ❤️🎄❤️
Absolutely love the photos of Christmas Past. With the flu before Thanksgiving and both my mother and my husband having short hospital stays here it is December 20th and Christmas will be here ready or not!! Thanks for the post filled with beauty and love of the season! Merry Christmas
You set the standard. I have copied many of your ideas and recipes, never disappointed. I had forgotten about the birdseed wreath until I saw your pic. One year I made many to give as gifts. Thank you!
I enjoyed the memory lane stroll so many years of loveliness
Last year, we had the max time between Thanksgiving and Christmas and this year the shortest. I think that has thrown off everyone’s scheduling.
Thank you for all the wonderful posts you do throughout the year. Bright part of my days
Love the photos of Christmas Past! I’m having a difficult time just getting the inside of our home decorated for Christmas. Our outside lighting never got finished. My husband got some of our display up, then we got hit with over 2 feet of snow, which covered quite a few of the shrubs that we normally light. Then it has been frigidly cold. Right now it is 6 degrees. Merry Christmas! And thank you for sharing your beautiful ideas.
I am with you, Mary, this December is flying by and I have not done all the decorating I usually do! But with that said, it did not stop me from enjoying your post this morning!! Christmas past is still just as beautiful as ever!! I hope you have a wonder Christmas and get a chance to relax and enjoy!!
Totally awesome! You NEVER disappoint no matter what you do.
Thanks for all you have done throughout the year. I look so forward to every idea, recipe and message you send for all of us to enjoy……
Can’t wait to start a new year with you!
Merry Christmas to you and your family 🎅🏻
Oh so true, Mary, as December has flown by! It was still nice to see your potting shed decked out from in the past. Enjoy these last few days and merry on! ❤️🎄❤️
So loved reminiscing, never ever tire of a garden Christmas! I miss having a greenhouse so much, a place to play in the garden for every season, I fear the rose garden will take another year to complete while another holiday season flies by! I hear you on losing a week, so many ideas, so little time, may our creative juices out live us, it keeps us young at heart!
Thanks for your admission that you too got a little behind this Christmas. How could one late Thanksgiving and a weekend away in Dec set me so behind? Because we just aren’t super human. I cut back on my baking, did not send but a few Christmas cards and my presents were put into gift bags. I am enjoying the season and feel way less stressed now that I realize it’s ok. Thankyou for your blog and the beautiful photos this past year. You are a treasure. Have the Merriest Christmas with your family and fur babies.
Mary, This month has escaped most of us! So much to do and so little time to get it done! The ghost of Christmas past of the potting shed was wonderful & I enjoyed it immensely. I’m still trying to make some of the list of goodies my husband wants! It’s getting pared down as time gets shorter and shorter. Merry Christmas Mary! 🎅🎄♥️
Love love love love love love love love love as always love! She is beautiful! Thank you for sharing your inspiration as always. Where did you get the advent cards? Those are really cool! I, too, lost control of December. Funny how I always know that Christmas is coming on December 25 but somehow I’m never ready. At least this year I have a good excuse with the shortened holiday season! Merry Christmas to you and yours!
This was definitely a tough year to get things done. We are still awaiting the completion of our kitchen remodel so no baking for me. As every room has something from the kitchen in it decorating for the holidays had been very difficult. This is the first year in 40+ years we haven’t had a fresh big tree. Currently our kitchen table and chairs are sitting where the tree usually sits. So we have done what we could, using holiday table linens, pillows, and throws everywhere. The front porch got a few seasonal touches but nowhere near what it usually does. This is a simplified Christmas this year. Thank you for all the wonderful pictures of Christmases past, a reminder of what was and will be again. Just not this year. Ho ho ho! Wishing you a beautiful holiday.
Nature gives us so much beauty to enjoy. Your photos are just gorgeous Mary. I LOVE the Advent calendar with all the beautiful little birds, can you tell us where you purchased those cards? Thank you for bringing so much beauty into our lives. Merry Christmas to you and all the fellow readers on this blog.
Mary “Thanks for the Memories”. The only thing my Potting Shed got this year has been a wreath but if I have any greens left over I will follow your example and put them in her window box. Like you Mary, I am behind schedule and playing catch up. Have a wonderful Christmas
Mary, I think we are all in the same boat..behind and not doing as much as we would like…but maybe its a sign that we should slow down and not worry too much about the material part of the holidays and focus on the love Christmas should bring to all. Your site is such an inspiration to all of us who follow..and I for one, love the opportunity to reflect back to the Ghosts you have shared. Have a joyous Christmas and Happy New Year…Carole
Not enough time but oh boy, oh boy… I love the ghost from Christmas Past! And it was YOU MARY that had the first she shed, before it became popular! It’s because of you that I have a she shed!
We are all struggling to “get it all done”! And I certainly haven’t! Some of the rooms in my house have still not been decorated and at this rate, won’t be. Oh well, it is better to enjoy what we have than moan about what we don’t.
Seeing your potting shed from the past is still a pleasant diversion from all I have to do. Thanks for sharing.
Hey, I can certainly appreciate all the labor of love you’ve always put into everything you do, Mary, especially the potting shed at Christmastime. The weather has to be decent enough to be able to move the fingers nimbly, and with all the cold and rain we’ve had, it’s no surprise to me between that and the compressed holiday calendar, the shed is getting slighted. Christmases past are lovely to look at again though!
It’s so wonderful to send the Potting Shed of Christmas pasts!! It is such a joy to see all that you have done!!! I never tire of seeing the shed all decked out for Christmas!! Yes, Christmas certainly crept up on us this year! I can just imagine the wonderful smells from your baking that waft throughout your house. Have a Merry time!!
Who cares if it’s from past Christmases? I loved it all! It is sad though that all the ideas you probably had for this year will have to wait for 2020!
Mary, I so relate to this post of not enough time. But who cares if this is Christmas past! I much enjoy seeing these charming images any time, again and again. I admire all you do, and the potting shed dressed for the different seasons is certainly a favorite. Actually, it’s difficult for me to single out a favorite of anything you do. I find every vignette, tablescape, lake photo, potting shed, etc to be stellar. Can’t wait to see what you have for us in 2020!
Happy Holidays!!!
A Wellie Christmas ornament? My day has been made! And it’s so nice to know that I’m not the only one that didn’t get to everything on my holiday list, but I am enjoying season. ;)
There she is in all her glory! I always enjoy a visit to your sweet garden shed. It’s fun to look back at her festive decor. I’m sure next year will be magnificent to make up for this year. I know what you mean about all the cutting of the fresh greens to fill inside and out. I only do some flower boxes and my 2 front sidewalk pots and it takes a lot, so I can believe that it takes you almost a week to do all that you do and it is so lovely. Your title “Ghost of Christmas Past” is touching, but the love we all feel for her lives on with each post. I was very late in decorating my shed, but I did manage to hang my wreath and put my old childhood sled on the porch, with a cardinal flag flying. I enjoy looking at it from my kitchen window. It won’t be too long and we’ll be hauling all the garden items back out for another busy spring. 🎄🎄🎄
I’m with you, Mary. December flew past plus I and my hubby are both sick, my daughter had surgery last Wed. I have been there trying to help her as she is non weight bearing for 5 WEEKS!!! so things have been crazy! I NEVER tire of seeing your shed. Have a very MERRY Christmas!!!
Beautiful Mary! Thanks for letting revisit Christmases past with you! I’ve so loved finding your beautiful site this year. I’m so inspired by your creativity and talent! 💗Merry Merry Christmas!
Beautiful inside and outside the potting shed and I love the bird advent calendar – Merry Christmas. Thanks for letting revisit Christmases past with you. December has been too short for me too. Your blog is such an inspiration. I can certainly appreciate all the labor of love you’ve always put into everything you do, Mary, especially the potting shed at Christmastime.
