Set a table for cozy winter dining with buffalo check and plaid and find a frosty fun and whimsical snowman craft project.

I hope you’re staying warm and cozy this winter! We’ve had a mild January overall, but an Arctic blast of wintry air blew in last week with temperatures dropping to the 20s, setting the mood for some frosty fun at the table!

My table inspiration came from a set of Top Hat Snowman dessert plates on clearance from MacKenzie-Childs. . .

One with a Courtly Check border. . .

And one with a polka dot border.

Place settings are layered on the table like winter clothing, easily shed for warming temperatures and dining! Snowman plates are served up on white salad plates, layered on a red tartan plaid plate, atop snowy white and galvanized chargers.

Napkins are layered too~ a red snowflake pattern and black and white check, married with a white beaded napkin ring.

A black and white buffalo check throw provides a tablecloth for cozy winter dining while a plaid scarf serves a runner, with mercury glass votives and glittery white snowflakes.

And snowy white goblets are a nod to wintry weather with twig flatware to mimic bare branches.

Top Hat Snowman plates needed some frosty friends at the table! This was an easy and fun winter DIY craft project when you’re stuck indoors!

I started with some FloraCraft 3.8-inch foam balls and some leftover yarn from my Finger Knitting Winter Wreath, attaching the yarn to the foam with pins and winding the yarn around the balls.

I picked up a snowman hat floral pick on clearance at Hobby Lobby in December, not sure how I would use it but thinking it might come in handy for Monday Morning Blooms.

An assorted animal eye and nose kit purchased for my Puppy Bouquet, provided the features for my snowmen, but you could use any black buttons with a shank.

I cut the top hat pick apart and used the stem of the pick to anchor it in the yarn ball.

To make the snowman nose, I started with a two-inch double length of yarn, wrapping it with an orange chenille stem. It took three orange stems to cover the yarn and create a carrot-shape nose.

To attach the eyes and mouth, I used some floral wire and toothpicks, wrapping the wire around the shank of the button and breaking the toothpick in half and then inserting it into the yarn ball to create the eyes and mouth.

Glue the buttons if you prefer. I used the wire and toothpick so I could rearrange the placement of the features and reuse the buttons if I wanted to later.

To attach the nose, I used a pin on both sides, inserting it in the foam.

Top Hat Snowmen are served up on a cake plate as a centerpiece, with an inverted bowl as a pedestal, and a length of buffalo check ribbon as a scarf.

A dusting of faux snow and a sparkly snowflake were added to create a snowy landscape.

The table is set by our Winter Nesting Tree, extending the twinkle season and decorated with snowflakes, icy branches, glittery nests, pine cones and bird ornaments.

The owls flew back to nest in the tree, making room for a Top Hat Snowman to move to the Finger Knit Wreath, tied with a black and white check ribbon bow.
