    Definitely a ‘pie’ connoisseur!
And I love to make my mother (Imogene’s) favorite cream puffs with Bavarian cream filling & chocolate topping.

I am not a baker YET! I am retiring in 2 weeks and the first item on my bucket list is to learn to bake. Especially pies (and cakes😊)! This book would help me master my favorite memory- my grandmother’s cherry pie.

When I was a little girl my Mom made the best chocolate cakes. She made them from a box and unfortunately I never asked her how she transformed that box mix into something so delicious! I’m a cake person but my favorite dessert to make is good old toll house cookies!
I’d love to win the book!
    Thanks

Although I don’t bake as much as I did when my boys were growing up, I still love baking cakes. I leave the pie baking to my sweet daughter-in-law. She has definitely mastered the art. My go-to for family occasions is Texas Sheet Cake.

  5. February 6, 2020 at 6:29 am

This adorable cook book looks like a must have for the Chocolate marshmallow chandelier alone! It’s an easy pick for me, I am a cake lover. My Mom made the best cakes for special occasions. We use her recipes now to recreate those memorable desserts to the best of our ability.

My mom. Virginia, made the best chiffon cakes that was always the first sold at the PTA bake sale. Unfortunately, never got the recipe but think of it often. She was the best baker!

My love of baking started with my childhood days in the Kitchen with my Grandma Henrietta, we spent hours together. Cookies, breads, pies but not a lot of cakes. Back in the Day reminds me of those cherished memories and I would love to try their tips on baking Cakes! I love the theme of this book and the feeling of baking with Love. Hope I’m a lucky winner!

I love both but of the two I’ll “take the cake”! I’d say it’s because there are more types/flavors of cakes that I love than with pies. This book looks like it’s chock full of “what’s not to love” recipes. And the pictures are most inviting…

  14. February 6, 2020 at 6:55 am

Very cool, I love the powdered sugar stars:@)

  15. February 6, 2020 at 7:00 am

Another great giveaway. Don’t count me in the giveaway, but please don’t count me out for dessert! I love bready kinds of desserts, so I’d go with cake. But I never turned down a lemon meringue pie or pretty much any cheesecake! Mr. P. loves my spice cake with buttercream icing (it’s a cake for two, but he eats the entire thing, lol). That chandelier! And let’s talk about that cake plate (“I knew you were coming…..) we NEED that.

I am a cake person and my favorite is a sumptuous carrot cake filled with nuts and raisins and best not to forget -the cream cheeses frosting . . . Yum! I had not heard of this cookbook! But I will certainly look for it. I love looking for new “old” recipes. Maybe I’m an old soul. They just give me such comfort. And there was a time, like the 60s, when certain recipes were in vogue and everybody used them at dinner parties. And people HAD dinner parties where people actually got dressed up and the lady of the house wore an apron. That’s me. Thanks for your inspiration Mary!

  22. February 6, 2020 at 7:23 am

Mary, if I have to choose, I would go with cake. This looks like a delightful cookbook. I enjoyed perusing it’s pages.❤️

Thank you for your blog. I don’t think I have missed any of your offerings through the years. If I had to choose I would probably say I am more of a cake person than pie. My very favorite cake is a chocolate chiffon with ermine frosting. In fact I am thinking of making one for Valentines Day or … So many favorites, so little time!

I love to bake!! And I love to bake all pies, cake, breads, brownies, lemon bars, favorite cake is Butter Pecan with Carmel/maple icing..then I crumble a heath bar and sprinkle that on top…my fav pie is cherry… get my fresh cherries from a local orchard (it is my kids fav too)…I bake multiple breads and at Christmas those are some gifts…I have to stay away from baking for a while so I can get some of this Christmas weight off! LOL!! I just say that and then we have company and right back at it! When I seen the plate that said “if I knew you were coming, I’d of baked a cake”, that brought back wonderful memories of my mother singing that while in the kitchen…sorry for the long reply!! GOOD LUCK TO ALL!! ❤️🎂💝

I am a pie person (although I do love to make a cake). On the holidays I make a buffet of pies. My personal favorite is my mom’s apple cobbler. The nectar of the apples mix with the sugar and seep into the crust which creates a delicious bite. And you start thinking….maybe one more serving!

Loved the video, the Days seem to have such a joy for baking. I love bake just about anything but if I must choose guess pecan pie would have to win. We have two pecan trees in our front yard. The gathering and shelling is my husband’s job and I do the baking so it is a team effort. I make a sweet crust with the addition of sugar and cream cheese and then fill it with my Mother’s recipe, who just turned 95 this past week. That’s the reason for the late reply, my husband and I spent last week visiting her and celebrating.

  39. February 6, 2020 at 8:32 am

Oh Mary, it’s hard for my sweet tooth to decide, but if I must, I’ll choose pie (although I’d never turn down either)! My favorite dessert to make is ice cream pie with peanut butter crust, which is a family favorite, and one that my late beloved would request for his birthday. Thanks for the opportunity to win this fabulous giveaway! ❤️

I am a pretty good cook but a baker not so much. I usually bake the same old things and would love to branch out and make some pies for my dear hubby to enjoy. Looks like a really cute book.

  41. February 6, 2020 at 8:38 am

I love to bake anything! I would say a favorite is a Key Lime Mousse Cake. I collect cook books this looks like a good one to have.

  42. February 6, 2020 at 8:40 am

My “fav” would be pies. Love that duo. The video is so very sweet. My mom used to mourn the loss of small town bakeries. I always try to check out little bakeries. There is one in a town near me that is absolutely terrific, they make a bran muffin that sells out every day. I do agree that to celebrate with a special cake is the icing on a celebration. This couple got married in their bakery, imagine the sights and smells in that, what a venue.

  43. February 6, 2020 at 8:41 am

Good Morning Mary! I’m a cake girl married to a pie guy so we enjoy both! My beloved mother made the absolute best Coconut Cake that called for refrigerating it for 1 – 3 days before serving. It was divine. Thanks for the giveaway. ♥

  44. February 6, 2020 at 8:43 am

I think I gained 5 lbs. as I scrolled down the screen Mary! What a cute couple the Days make too, I enjoyed the video you included. I’ll take cake over pie any day. My favorite is a good old-fashioned carrot cake!

  45. February 6, 2020 at 8:46 am

What a yummy cookbook! I think if I add one more book to my kitchen shelf it might collapse from the weight. :)) We’re a pie family, my hubby’s favorite is apple with a salted caramel drizzle. Thanks for sharing!

That is the cutest cookbook! Even though I’m a ‘cake’ person, I’ve not had much experience (or luck) with baking. I guess I just need to practice more! ;o) I used to make No-Bake cookies for my daughter and Dirt Cake in which I just crumble up Oreos on top of chocolate pudding. She never felt dessert-deprived.

  54. February 6, 2020 at 9:03 am

I would love to win this cookbook! Thank you for the opportunity. I love pies and cakes, and I probably love pie more, although I am a better cake baker. Our family’s favorite dessert is my Nana Bread, so it has also become my favorite. It is my recipe created by using Friendship Bread and butterscotch morsels. My granddaughters named it Nana Bread, and they always request it, so I usually have it baked for them. I bake it with nuts (usually pecans) and without, and both are delicious. I am considering selling it professionally, since so many people have told me that I should do so.

  55. February 6, 2020 at 9:04 am

I’m a cake person; German chocolate & coconut are favorites to eat. I love to bake both my grandmother’s coconut & chocolate meringue pies as they bring back sweet memories of watching her make them. Those days were the best! I still have the recipes I scribbled down more than 50 years ago as a pre teen. Now I’m the age she was when I was a toddler! Time flew, things changed but I’m still baking her pies. This looks like a wonderful book. Happy Thursday! Clara♥️

What a charming cookbook and the recipes sound scrumptious. Would love a chance to win one. You are asking a tough question here today :). I enjoy pies and cakes, but if I have to choose I would go with pies. I enjoy making my mom’s recipe for fresh peach pie in the summertime. She has been gone for several years now. The recipe is in her handwriting and I am reminded of the many times we enjoyed that pie around her table. The warm memories make the pie taste even sweeter.

I would have to say I am a cake lover and baker. I just love to display a beautifully iced cake on a nice cake stand. Then serving it on pretty dessert plates. It is a process that brings back beautiful memories of both of my grandmothers and my Mom. I have never been known to turn down pie either! 😜 My Mom loved to try new recipes and she passed on that desire in me. I would love to win one of the cookbooks and try every recipe!

    Hi Mary!
Years ago, while planning to cater for a family I regularly cooked for, I was asked by the Matriarch of the family, then in her late 80’s, to prepare an Alabama Lane Cake. She said that her Grandmother used to make one every Christmas and she hadn’t had one since she was a young woman. Not being from the south, and charged with something of huge importance to this lovely woman, I researched and practiced and finally nervously prepared the cake for this woman and her family. Recreating a beloved childhood recipe/memory for someone is both a wonderful opportunity and daunting challenge!
Thankfully, the cake was a hit! She teared up as she ate it, reminiscing about her youthful family memories and the part this recipe played in them. I love history and cooking and combining the two is absolutely fascinating to me! Thank-you for sharing this cookbook! I am excited to pour through it one day and practice these timeless recipes!

I think I am like Sue Ellen – I love cake but come Thanksgiving, I truly love pecan, pumpkin and apple pies — yep — all made from scratch — even the crust! I also make homemade rolls as Frank Sinatra sings “I remember the rolls my mother made when she was able” — they are like marshmallows! I have always brought in the birthday cakes at work and they all have to be made from scratch. My husband’s favorite is coconut and/or german chocolate! Love your postings! Thank you soo much!

Do I have to choose between cakes and pies? I love them both and love making them both. I use my grandmas recipes (which I had to watch her make and I wrote down because she never used a recipe one!) She made the most delicious pies in Perry County! This book looks amazing!

My grandmother, mother & aunts made wonderful pies. As a child I stood on stools to help roll out pie dough. How I loved creating the lattice crust! I guess I became the cake baker of the family by default. My favorite is Rocky Road Bundt Cake. Now that the family matriarchs have passed, I do my best to duplicate their pies. I still use my grandmother’s handmade wooden rolling pin.

  84. February 6, 2020 at 11:08 am

My son loves my Eggnog pound cake. I make it for Christmas and then make several to freeze so I always have one for him when he visits.

Oh Happy “Day”! Loved the video….what a darling couple! They are a fun loving inspiration. My favorite dessert to make is Carrot Cake! I grow the carrots which I have in my garden all winter long because I cover them with straw. I’ve developed my own recipe over the years and just love the moist carroty goodness enveloped in a buttery cream cheese frosting. I think its time to make Carrot Cake!

I love to make both! If I must choose, I choose pies, especially cobblers. Again, if I must choose, my husband’s favorite pie is a peach buttermilk pie, which I make only in the summer with fresh peaches. This book looks great! I often just do tried and true favorites, but when inspired, I try new and different.

Although I am a Chocolate Cake Fanatic I love creating my families favorite, Old Fashioned Strawberry/Rhubarb Pie!
Made with my own home grown berries and rhubarb that are grown without pesticides.
My family clamors for this when they see the berries ripening.
I have converted a lot of rhubarb skeptics
with the recipe I found in an old Settlement Cookbook that was a wedding gift from my Mother-in-law in 1967.

Pie! Fresh blackberry cobbler with a white icing glaze like my grandmother baked to accentuate the sweet tartness of the berries. Strawberry shortcake made in the traditional southern Illinois way of using pie crust instead of cake for the berries. If it has pastry it must count as pie too – right? Lemon meringue pie. Banana cream pie. Cherry pie. Apple crumb pie. Years ago I helped judged a pie bake off in Orlando. The table I was at was charged with taste testing pumpkin pie. Which I love and at the time thought was a good idea, That fall I skipped the pumpkin pie. You can get an over load of too much of a good thing.

Mary, the cookbook looks charming. The number of comments does not bode well for my chances of winning, but I found all the comments very interesting and some simply mouthwatering. Sadly for my waistline, I love both cakes and pies. I would have a difficult time picking which is my favorite, but pies might have a slight edge. I bake both and enjoy treating family and friends with their favorites. Thank you for a very sweet contest for Valentine’s Day. MM

That is a trick question. I prefer eating pies over cake. That could be due to the fact that my husband bakes the pies in our home, always adding unusual ingredients. I prefer baking cakes. The cake itself has to be perfect and I am forever searching for the perfect balance: not too dry or moist, not too heavy or light, perfect flavor, perfect sweetness, perfect frosting (if there is any) and perfect fit for guests.

I have made many cakes and while I always ask my children and grandchildren what flavor cake they would like this year for their birthday, they always seem to pick chocolate. I would love this book but would not keep for myself. My baby sister in chicago is an entertainer on all ocassions. She lives in a retirement community and bakes for all everything. Even shares door to door for no ocassions. i can see her wearing out these recipes!

Oh I don’t think it gets any better than the Strawberry pies my uncle Leo used to make. So I guess I’m a pie person. But then there are the many birthday cakes and the memories that were as special as the different favors of cakes.
What a fun looking book you’ve selected for the give away. Baking and Crafts!

I would like to make a pie but that’s scary to me. I’ve never made one before and I’ve not had much guidance in the kitchen. But I’m willing to try!

Yum, the ‘Back-in-the day-bakery’ cookbook is amazing, the design, pictures, recipes draws you in…it reminds me of my late mom’s pie recipes, I love adding to those memories with new recipes. I’d start with the pies, then cakes, and cookies, it’s party time. Thank you for introducing us to this wonderful cookbook!

Definitely a COOKIE person – but can certainly be enticed with peach, black raspberry or coconut creme pie. And have a carrot cake recipe my cousin and I developed when we were teenagers which is still my favorite cake.

Love your BLOG by the way.

So many dazzling ideas on your blog. I have been inspired over and over. One of the few blogs that I have stayed with. Regarding desserts? I love pies and choose fruits in season ~ especially sour cherry as that is Captain Romance’s all time favorite. For Sunday dinners, back in the day, my dream pies were Butterscotch, Banana or Coconut Cream, and/or Chocolate Cream. Drool. And drooling over the photos in this book.
