Happy Monday!
I’m trying to keep a ‘spring in my step’ during these uncertain times.
Staying busy with gardening and outdoor projects seems to help and I’ve been puttering around the Potting Shed and doing a little spring clean up.
Gardening can be a great stress reliever even it’s daily small tasks, like weeding, watering, dividing plants or sowing some seeds.
If you’re able to get outdoors, just reading while listening to the birds while enjoying some fresh air and sunshine can be therapeutic and good for your mental health! If you’re stuck indoors, try watching the birds at the feeder by a window while you’re under a mandatory ‘stay at home’ order or order supplies to create a wreath or a new pair of rainboots to put a spring in your step. You can find just about anything on Amazon, including floral wellies / rainboots.
With our ‘new normal’ of staying at home, I used what I already had to create a blooming wreath for the door of the Potting Shed, starting with a faux forsythia wreath, used here.
A favorite pair of floral wellies are serving as vases to hang on the wreath.
I had an extra package of shower curtain rings that I used to hang watering cans, aka The Chain Gang. The wellies have a rubber tab on the back to hang them on the wreath hanger on the door.
I cut some stems of azaleas that are blooming along with the last couple of daffodils to add to the wellies.
Whenever I cut woody stems for an arrangement whether foliage or flowers, I use a vegetable peeler to strip the outside layers of the stems. Removing 3 – 4 inches of the outer wood, helps the azaleas ‘drink’ and stay hydrated and fresh longer.
Acrylic cups serve as lightweight vases to hold water tucked inside the wellies.
Tip: Daffodils secrete a sap that can shorten the vase life of other flowers. To use daffodils in a vase with other flowers, cut them and put them in a vase by themselves for at least an hour or longer. After the stems have secreted their sap, they’re ready to add to other flowers in a mixed bouquet as long as you don’t recut the stems again.
I tucked a pair of floral garden tools into the wellies to add some additional blooms.

Another inspiring post and filled with good tips on cutting flowers for arrangements. Your posts last week have brought a breath of fresh air and sunshine into our home. I loved seeing “the girls” enjoying the boat ride in yesterday’s post. Wonderful!
WOW!! Love that color!! Thanks for the lift!!
Beautiful ❤️
Great therapy! Mary, your putting shed area looks great! Cute arrangement in the wellies, and azaleas already blooming, wow!

Your post put a spring in my step. Beautiful.
Love! Gardening is definitely a big spirit lifter. Im accumulating a number of annuals ready for planting–which is early in Coastal Virginia! Window boxes and a new flower cutting garden! Thank you as always for the motivation, inspiration, and encouragement! Stay safe and well!
So bright and pretty Mary!! It is so soul satisfying to create from things you have!

A feel good post in these trying times.
What a delight it is to visit my favorite potting shed this morning, Mary!! You’ve enhanced you faux forsythia wreath do beautifully with the wellies, azaleas, and daffodils. Thank you for the tips on using a veggie peeler, and keeping the daffodils separated for a bit. Stay safe and well, Mary! 😘
Good to know about the Daffodils and a great tip about the vegetable peeler as well!
Mary, What a lovely post! Thanks again for the azalea tip – I just used mine in an arrangement last week and didn’t know this, so this will really help! Also, I finally found Alum at the store so I am excited to get some hydrangeas. Thanks for brightening our day during this stressful time. Stay safe!
What a beautiful wreath on the potting shed door! Being outside is definitely the cure for social distancing. Happy Monday dear Mary♥️
So darn cheerful and best of all just plain fun to garden decorate! What surprises me most is how cleared out your garden is, normally we see the heights of its glory, hard to believe it’s the same patch! I am working on a kitchen garden, found out favorite nursery has sr hours 😬
A very pretty spring wreath indeed. Love the addition of the garden boots! You mentioned the last of your daffodills, wow, ours are just now coming up and about about 3 -5 inches tall. Eager to see them and the hyacinths. Garden on! 😃
I didn’t always have time to fully enjoy your work before now, so thanks for continuing to give us lovely and creative ideas to brighten our spirits in these tough times💕.
Thank you so much, Mary!! Spring is coming!
Spring has not yet arrived here in Calgary, Canada but your post got me looking forward to the day’s to come. I loved how you used items you already had at home. Thanks!
What a lovely door wreath. Makes me smile…Happy Spring!
I love the pic of the two pups and their cute little butts and fluffy tails. They look like little ballerinas!
Love your wreath! You share so much beauty with us in every post.
I learn so many great tips from you, Mary! I never knew that about daffodils. Your azalea bush made me gasp! I love azaleas, but we won’t see anything blooming in northern Michigan for another month or longer. 😟 That’s why I love seeing your yard in bloom. So beautiful.
Such a lovely wreath! Fun and cheerful!
Mary, This I’d such a lovely, colorful door wreath. Love it! Clara♥️
Lovely colors and great tips as always. Thanks, Mary!
Good tips with the vegetable peeler and shower curtain rings. Everything you do is just beautiful!!
Your post put a spring in my step as well. Last year we glassed in the front porch and now I have turned it into a green house, complete with veggies! Summer comes late to our mountainside, so I can now get a head start and insure that we actually have some produce, instead of feeding the deer and ground squirrels! My husband is laughing that I “decorate” (inspired by your!) the space as well, but I notice that he sits out there most evenings…
Have a wonderful week.
