Happy Saturday! Here are some weekend waterviews from Lake Norman.

February’s weather is always a mixed bag. . .

February Weekend Waterview and snow flurries | ©homeiswheretheboatis.net #lakenorman #dogs #sunset #bichonfrise #dock

Freezing temperatures, rain, snow flurries, thunderstorms and sunny 60 degree days. . .all typical winter weather in North Carolina.

As much as I love blue water views, there is something so peaceful about stark beauty and quiet stillness of winter. . .

With the bare branches and the steam fog rising off the water.

Drifting boat Weekend Waterview | ©homeiswheretheboatis.net #lakenorman

We woke up a couple of weeks ago to find a runaway boat drifting in our cove.

We didn’t recognize it so I posted a ‘found boat’ notice on Nextdoor and it was picked up shortly after. Do you use Nextdoor? In addition to being helpful I find it very entertaining. :)

We’ve enjoyed some beautiful sunsets recently. . .

Tuesday was a beautiful warm day with sunshine and 66 degrees!

AND the sun is setting at 6 pm now. . .more daylight than dark hours for the first time since October!

We took advantage of the sunshine this week and enjoyed some chair time. . .

And we just got groomed so we’re white and fluffy. . .

Nice views, and the pups look like Hostess snoballs with their just-groomed fluffy heads. :) Love the longer daylight hours, and wish we had one of those warm weather days in between all the grey, cold and wet ones we seem to keep having. I know spring is closer though….the robins are flocking in trees and on grassy patches. We like walking along our river in all seasons, but the geese are a real nuisance this time of year (glad I don’t live where I have to chase them!). Haven’t used Nextdoor, but I bet your post was greatly appreciated! Enjoy your weekend.

Thanks Rita, Are expecting snow/ice? We’re looking a very wet week ahead. I hate to complain in case Mother Nature is listening and decides to turn off the faucet and sends us a drought! Nextdoor is helpful but also a hoot, people have no filter. ;)

Not on topic but i want to thank you for your inspiring winter nesting tree! We’ve had SO many cloudy, gray rainy days here in coastal VA this year! I have thoroughly enjoyed my tree. I, too, like you, enjoy the quiet starkness of winter, but i am SOLAR POWERED so i have needed the bright spot that my tree provided. Thank you!

    • February 13, 2021 at 11:36 am

Hi Sandra, I’m so glad you’re enjoying your tree. I always miss it in the mornings and evenings after I take it down in March. I hear you on the ‘solar power’…it’s good for our mental heath :) Happy weekend ♥

Beautiful views! So enjoy your silly doggies; we have one of our own (Maltese) and he brings such joy to our family. I adore the saying, “Love is a four-legged word.” Happy Valentines Day!

Thank you Alyson! Happy Valentine’s Day to you and your pup! ♥ 🐾

Good morning Mary, The water shots and sunsets are gorgeous! The girls look beautiful after their grooming. They’re so fluffy! We’re experiencing the coldest weather in years here in sw TN. Temps in single digits in a few days; no daytime temps above 32. With the wind chill, we’re already in the single digits. We’ll have another ice storm tomorrow and snow on top of that! 🥶 I’ll take your weather over ours but glad you’re having better weather as this stuff is tiresome!☺️ Nextdoor is a great app for lost pets, items, crime in the area, etc. The boat owner was probably relieved to know where his boat was! Enjoy your weekend sweet friend. Clara ❤️

Thank you for your visits and sweet comments Clara! I hope you stay warm and your power holds. Happy Valentine’s Day to you! ♥

Hi Mary: Like always every post makes me smile. Love the sunsets, runaway boat, and most of all the fluff balls. Lola and Sophie never fail to bring a huge smile to my face. Thanks for spreading beauty and joy. We have over a foot of snow on the ground here and well below zero temps. I want to be there!

    • February 13, 2021 at 11:18 am

Thanks so much! I can’t imagine that much snow on the ground, our fluff balls would disappear! :) Stay safe ♥

  6. February 13, 2021 at 10:12 am

Loving those beautiful pics of the serenity this season. Lola and Sophie are loving the fresh air and bring sunshine to the pics!
Our temps are in single digits here in Michigan and the snow is falling today with quite a bit of a accumulation over the past weeks. We are looking forward to spring and a true sign is seeing the robins return. We counted 34 robins in our back yard yesterday as they were eating all the berries from the trees. What a sight! Spring is around the corner.
Looking forward to reading about your pontoon happenings as this is the first year we will experience pontooning in our new boat to be delivered in May. Hope the weather warms up by then!
Always look forward to your special posts! 💕
Happy Valentine’s Day to you and family! ❤️🥰❤️

Happy Valentines to you Mary, your husband and your adorable pups. ❤️❤️❤️❤️ We too are experiencing rain, wind and a chill. I am beginning to think we live in a swamp. The side yard next to the river is throughly soaked with lots of standing water and the walk between our house and our back door neighbor has become a stream, but this too shall pass and the sun will come out and we will rejoice.

Love the water shots – so hauntingly beautiful. Electricity just came back on here in the Richmond VA area after 4 hours off – thanks to all electric line persons! Ice ice everywhere. The trees are beautiful with the ice but… stay warm everyone! Oh my electricity went off again just as I was ready to hit send!

    • February 13, 2021 at 10:49 am

I was going to say ‘so glad your electricity is back on Cindi’. Hope power is restored soon, ice is no fun, stay safe! ♥

Good morning, Mary. Love the skies in all your pictures. Yes, the sun is shining in Omaha but the temperature here is minus 2 right now! Have a happy Valentine’s Day tomorrow!

    • February 13, 2021 at 10:51 am

Oh my Pat! I can’t even imagine -2 degrees! Happy Valentine’s Day to you too, stay warm! ♥

Your photos are breathtaking. You live in such a beautiful setting. We have yet another dreary day of rain here in coastal Virginia, with more predicted for at least 3 days next week. When I think of the long, hot summer days, I hope some of this rain will reappear when we need it. My husband and I have been watching the birds at our feeders- quite a crowd! I think they have spread the word about a free buffet! Take care and Happy Valentine’s Day!

    • February 13, 2021 at 12:33 pm

Thank you Ann! We’re very fortunate to have a lake in our back yard. I know what you mean about the rain. Rain is in our forecast everyday this week and but we’ll be wishing for it come August. Happy Valentine’s Day ♥

Lovely photos Mary! Yes, Nextdoor is both helpful (we found a cat in our garage one midnight and his family ran down the street in bathrobes and all to take him home.🤗) and definitely entertaining! Thank you for always sharing your sweet pups with us. Stay cozy…

Always enjoy the water views! I could sit in that chair lake side for hours on end. No problem!
Well, TX is cold and getting colder with each new day. They predict down to 3 by Monday. I doubt the garden will survive even with all the plant covers. Just hoping the pipes don’t freeze and the power lines don’t snap.
Stay cozy and Happy Valentine’s Day!

  14. February 13, 2021 at 12:45 pm

I enjoyed your beautiful pictures and hearing about your warmer temps!! We’ve been below zero for awhile now and it will get worse this weekend before it slowly improves late next week. I think I will take my imaginary trip to Lake Norman!!

  15. February 13, 2021 at 12:51 pm

White and fluffy indeed!!! They are so cute Mary-give The Girls a hug for me:@) Happy Valentine’s Day Weekend-enjoy!

Hi, Mary– I don’t really know what a blog is :( but I signed up for yours anyway! You are very gifted — love the stunning pics of your puppies, the beautiful North Carolina scenery and your knack for arranging everyday things. It just makes me happy. Thanks for educating me in a very fun way

Im with you, Mary, and love the stark beauty of wintertime. There’s just something about it if seeing the leafless branches against the sky. Your sunsets are beautiful. We have it sooooo cold 🥶🥶🥶 here!! I think snow is coming our way, too. 💙 ❄️ 💙

Oh Kitty, I’m envious of your snow! Stay warm ❤️

Loved my watery visit, I too love the cool dark starkness of winter, which we have had very little. Its the perfect time to rest, as long as the sun shines I’m always in motion, I yearn for those do nothing days…

What beautiful skies and the water, awww love it! I have said it before, you have a little slice of heaven on earth Mary! The girls are so cute! Glad the run-away boat was rescued, you get a gold star good neighbor. Here’s wishing you and your hubby a wonderful sweethearts day, and know that you are very special to me / all of us. Love you girl! ♥️♥️♥️♥️

Your blog is a favorite and soooooo enjoyable–thank you!!!! Even though we don’t live on a lake, we played on Center Hill Lake (Tennessee) for 10 summers as we raised our children–slalom, wake board, tubing– our family’s best memories together. I agree with you about the peace, quiet and beauty of the winter season–be still and know!

  22. February 14, 2021 at 9:08 am

Happy Valentines Mary, I’m a day late reading but still enjoy the lake views…we have sun this Sunday morning but it will probably be the last for a couple days..5-8 inches expected tonight through Tuesday!! We have plenty to do to keep us busy inside…I’m planning my gardens, veggies and flowers…for me, when Ash Wednesday comes, then Spring can’t be far behind…those pups look beautiful and I know what ya mean about staying that way for a couple days…enjoy that lake hope it doesn’t get so cold IT freezes!! Thanks for the view!! Have a great weekend!!

Dear Mary, I just read this blog this morning and was deeply sadden to hear you have lost on of the loves of your life. She was just the cutest and I know you will miss her. There has to be a big hole in your and your husband’s hearts. They are family and know when there is a problem and they give you so much comfort. My Kathy lost her Boxer several months ago. It was so sad. I went to the vet with her and the decision was made to put her down. She was the best dog. Unfortunately her husband was out of town, so they made the decision together by phone. It killed him not being able to say goodbye. I hope, in time, you will be able to find another pup to love and be a companion for your other pup. Again I am very sorry for you loss. This was a great tribute to Cloe. Even though you are sad and miss her, this is the day to love those who are with us and those we have lost. Cherish those memories you had with Cloe. Happy Valentine’s Day!

Thank you for the beautiful water views. WE still have snow on the ground and MAY get some of the ice they are predicting, we are right on the line between ice and rain. Hoping for just rain!!! Your fur babies are so beautiful. Hope you had a wonderful Valentine’s.
