Happy Sunday!
Here’s a weekend waterview from Lake Norman.
We’re off to a chilly start this morning for our neck of the woods,
but looking forward to the sun returning and warming things up . . .
a nice change of pace after a very wet January and
storms moving through earlier this week!
Between rain showers, we’ve been treated to some beautiful
winter sunrises the past few weeks.
I’ve dashed outside in the early morning several times in the last couple of weeks
in an attempt to capture the fleeting beauty. . .
five minutes too late, and you’ve missed it!
Sunrise by God, photo by iPhone ;)
The colder air over the water creates steam fog which adds
an air of mystery on a cold winter morning,
especially paired with the stark beauty of the bare trees.
Ring-billed Gulls always make an appearance on the lake in January or February. . .
There must have 50 of them in our cove earlier this week. . .
on both our neighbor’s docks and fishing off a nearby shoal.
They make quite a racket (and mess) wherever they go.
Lola and Sophie are looking forward to a little sunshine
and chair time by the water today. . .
Their white fluffy coats keep them warm, while we’ll have to bundle up to stay warm!
They were just groomed but won’t stay so white and fluffy once the rain returns later this week.
Hope you’re enjoying some sunshine this weekend. . .
Happy Sunday ♥
Thank you for your visit!
Hi Mary! Yesterday was beautiful here and today will be as well. The sun and blue skies are a welcome sight! Hope you get a pretty day today. Rain returns tomorrow for us. Your sunrise shots are marvelous! Sweet Lola and Sophie look so cute and happy. The lake is gorgeous in winter with the fog. It’s a nice spot to relax. The gulls seem to be enjoying themselves. Happy Sunday! Clara❤️
Verbatim! I mean it…right down to the temperatures…now, could you work on that a little more…please. The gulls (which return, uhhh, right as you said) look like a giant white cap on the crystal blue water this AM. ENJOY!! franki
Very pretty. So relaxing. The folks in Texas wish we could complain about the rain. Send it our way. All the lakes are drying up. Its so sad.
Mary ~ thank you for the stunning views of winter mornings and God’s latest watercolors. Nature is such a gift ~ Hugs, Dorinda
So nice to see the sunshine in winter! Our forecast looks very much like yours. Our power company is taking advantage of a couple of warm weather days and doing some planned maintenance in our neighborhood (late last week and tomorrow). It’s an inconvenient nuisance, but winter’s messy anyway, so I suppose it’s good to get it over with. We typically see the gulls fly through – typically flocking to an open parking lot near the river – but I haven’t seen them yet (may have missed them). Spring, come soon!
What beautiful sunrises Mary! Our forecast this week is very similar, looking forward to the warm up after a very cold weekend. The girls look so pretty after their groom, such adorable little puffs! The lake views no matter what the season or weather are always so calming and beautiful! Have a wonderful week ahead~
Mary, how lovely to see the beautiful sunrises and sunsets in your photos! Your dogs are so beautiful! We’ve been having warmer temps here in North Idaho, and most of our snow is melting. Like you, I’ve been known to rush outside to capture the morning or evening light, it doesn’t last long! Have a blessed Sunday!
What lovely photos, Mary. We in the Upstate have a similar forecast and it’s so nice to see the sun after all that rain. the pups look so sweet in their fluffy winter coats. Spring will be here soon and, in the meantime, there are sunsets to enjoy!

Beautiful photos, especially your little fur babies. The sunrise photos are lovely. Living on a lake must be so peaceful. The birds seem to love being on the water. Enjoy your sunshine ☀️.
Gorgeous shots! And I like your new masthead because it’s less busy and easier to see the pics.
Mary, you know I love seeing your darling fluff ball girls and the views of your beautiful lakeside living. Our days have been cold and dreary. The sun is out today, but the wind is bitter. Such is life in January. I just snuggle in by a cozy fire and enjoy the calm and quiet. Happy Sunday!
Such beautiful and relaxing captures of stunning sunrises on your lake. And your girls are as white as snow!
Thank you for sharing your lake living with us.
Happy Sunday!
I’m living in the midst of the Pineapple Express, so it was a joy to see sunshine on water. I’m not complaining, though, because our area needs the precious water to combat our prolonged drought. Your photos are gorgeous.
All I can say is, how beautiful Lake Norman is! I’ve visited and stayed once there during Nascar race. We’re from California and Lake Norman is a site to see. I love your blog and all the beautiful pictures you post!
Gorgeous views. You are so blessed.
Beautiful sunrise photos and love the fluffy white pups.
Mary thank you for sharing these gorgeous photos. Love the sea gulls.
Happy Sunday

Mary, l have been a subscriber for years … even won one of your contests! Your photos are always really beautiful, whether indoors or outdoors. Can’t wait to try those snowball cookies for the holiday season next year.
We have sailed in regattas on Lake Norman for about 20 years. Never have l seen your dock or noticed your sweet potting shed.
You have a lovely slice of heaven. Thank you for sharing photos of your scenic view. ❤️
Such gorgeous pictures, Mary! There’s nothing better than living by a lake! Your precious little dogs are so adorable! Have a great week!
The sunrise pics are glorious!! Thanks so much for sharing them. The pups look so sweet and happy!!! We had bitterly cold and WINDY weather yesterday, today was a little milder and the sun came out so that really helped. Have a beautiful week, Mary!
Mary, These are beautiful pictures. Our winter weather here in Maine is crazy. It’s actually like a North Carolina winter…40’s and 50’s. Love the pictures of the girls too!! Thank you!
So lovely to stand lakeside with you and enjoy all your sights. Watched a show on your lake the other day, hoping to spot your girls lake side 😉 Love all the bird shots, such diversity around you. Glad you have sun, as you must know CA is in dire shape with relentless storms for weeks, they say sun tomorrow, after another river of water today, so eager to live again…
Mary, your sunrise photos are beautiful. The girls are always a treat to see. Yesterday was pretty, but very cold. Happy Monday!
Magnificent photos~
Oh Mary, those glorious sunrises are breathtaking!! It must be so wonderful for you to see so much nature on your lake. Lola and Sophie do look so white and fluffy. We have warm temperatures Springlike today but cooler temperatures are in the forecast. We need some of your rain that you’ve been having. I hope you have a great week capturing beautiful photos to share. 🥰
Stunningly beautiful! Only God can do such beautiful sunrises and sunsets! The girls are beautiful with their new “do”. Like little snowballs! We have had a few sunny days, so nice in an otherwise gray January. But we’re half way through! Wow! Thank you Mary, always love the water views and the pups make it extra special.
