Peanut Butter Dog Treats

Mix up a batch of homemade peanut butter dog treats for your canine companion. Makes 2 dozen (3 1/2-inch x 1-inch) treats

Ingredients

  • 1/2 cup unsweetened applesauce
  • 1 egg
  • 1/2 cup *peanut butter *make sure your peanut butter does NOT contain Xylitol, a natural sugar alcohol sweetener which is harmful to dogs
  • 2 cups whole-wheat flour
  • 1/4 cup cornmeal
  • 1/4 cup oats quick or old-fashioned

Instructions

  • Preheat oven to 350 degrees.
  • In the bowl of food processor, add applesauce, egg, and peanut butter. Pulse to combine.
  • Add flour, cornmeal, and oats and process until dough comes together.
  • Turn dough onto floured surface and knead and roll out to 1/4- 1/2 inch thick and cut into shapes. (Dough will be crumbly). Reroll scraps and repeat.
  • Place treats on parchment-lined cookie sheet and bake 12 minutes – 15 minutes or until treats are firm and edges are starting to brown. Cool on a wire rack and store treats in airtight container or freeze part for later.

Notes

You can use any shape or size cookie cutter to make these treats. If you’re using a larger size cookie cutter, increase the baking time.
