Inspired plant palettes and combinations, dazzling views, ingenious water features, splendid outbuildings, artistically crafted fences and gates, and exceptional garden structures and appointments all draw us into these heavenly landscapes and, ultimately and emotionally, into the countryside of our longing.
Just a few notes:
Most gardens featured in Private Edens are shade gardens and heavily wooded but you’ll be green with envy with the lush foliage, shady nooks, and pastoral settings.
I prefer not to be negative especially when it comes to such a beautiful book, so you might want to read the other reviews on Amazon before purchasing. I bought it strictly for the photos and was not disappointed.
The author’s garden is included in the book (Hortulus Farm Garden and Nursery) in the American Story Chapter but not identified as his.

is serving as a pot filler & accent
until the flowers fill in . . .
Along with a favorite broken Pormeirion Botanic Garden plate that I decided to salvage and plant among stock, creeping Jenny and salvia.
My letter M is from an old sign and
usually shares space on my bench with blooms,
greenery, or pumpkins. . .
I flipped it over and
planted it with succulents. . .

oh what a way to start my morning, FILLED WITH SMILES! every pic was a treat for my eyes, i could live in a garden forever, and through you lens all things are possible. i love your shots of the play house too, you can see how you have all sides for sharing, and i love how you can see through to the lake, its all just wonderful! seeing and reading of everyone’s personal eden this morning has been such a treat to my soul and eyes! off to snitch all you pics now…

Beauty and creativity are in full bloom at your place, Mary. From the welcoming quote on your chalkboard to the garden art, I just got lost in the wonder of it all. I discovered new tidbits about your wonderful potting shed–didn’t know the chalkboard door opened to a sweeping view of the lake. Your shed looks like a place that is just beyond the veil of real life, a storybook creation that feeds the soul. I love what you have created. xx

As much as I enjoyed a look inside the Private Edens on Amazon, I do prefer your jardin, your “garden of weedin'” and your fairy tale potting shed full of treasures for the eye to find~ it is always hard to pick a favorite element in the array of brilliant and whimsical touches you add to any scene, but I think my favorite is the blue mason jars hanging from the old rake. I always leave your posts smiling Mary, everything is truly delightful :)
