NB Garden Week

Our third book to share this week~

Private Edens: Beautiful Country Gardens:

Wander through twenty-one superb private country gardens in Virginia, New York, Connecticut, Maryland, Pennsylvania, New Jersey, and Massachusetts, each with a unique story to tell.

From a romantic garden that pays homage to the best of English garden vernacular to a historic farmstead to a splendid Maryland-meets-Himalayas Eden of transcendent serenity, these garden paradises are inspirational on their own terms and together offer up the breadth and depth of what we can all achieve with a little respect for nature and a bit of imagination.

Inspired plant palettes and combinations, dazzling views, ingenious water features, splendid outbuildings, artistically crafted fences and gates, and exceptional garden structures and appointments all draw us into these heavenly landscapes and, ultimately and emotionally, into the countryside of our longing.

Private Edens Beautiful Country Gardens

Just a few notes:

Most gardens featured in Private Edens are shade gardens and heavily wooded but you’ll be green with envy with the lush foliage, shady nooks, and pastoral settings.

I prefer not to be negative especially when it comes to such a beautiful book, so you might want to read the other reviews on Amazon before purchasing. I bought it strictly for the photos and was not disappointed.

The author’s garden is included in the book (Hortulus Farm Garden and Nursery) in the American Story Chapter but not identified as his.

Good morning , Mary! You have inspired me pot some plants and flowers in some of my empty pots. Nothing like a beautiful garden to give color to your yard.

Lovin’ your ‘M’ Mary, that looks cool! I also like how, while the plate might be broken, it’s still the perfect placement for the bee:@)

Thank you for all of your inspiration. I have been asked to put my garden on a local event in 2015. Have so much to do but your ideas will keep me on track.

Beauty and creativity are in full bloom at your place, Mary. From the welcoming quote on your chalkboard to the garden art, I just got lost in the wonder of it all. I discovered new tidbits about your wonderful potting shed–didn’t know the chalkboard door opened to a sweeping view of the lake. Your shed looks like a place that is just beyond the veil of real life, a storybook creation that feeds the soul. I love what you have created. xx

As much as I enjoyed a look inside the Private Edens on Amazon, I do prefer your jardin, your “garden of weedin'” and your fairy tale potting shed full of treasures for the eye to find~ it is always hard to pick a favorite element in the array of brilliant and whimsical touches you add to any scene, but I think my favorite is the blue mason jars hanging from the old rake. I always leave your posts smiling Mary, everything is truly delightful :)

Mary, Your potting she’d is really coming along in its new location. You do such a great job. What a surprise to see the lake when both doors are open. I’d thought you lost that view in the move.

Breathtaking, just breathtaking…The area around the garden shed is looking magnificent Mary…and what a view you have from the garden shed…I love how you planted the succulents in the “M”
