Adding a Little Punch~ Flowering & Fluttering Branches

DSC_0234-003

My branches and burlap window dressing

in my Potting Shed were ready

for a spring metamorphosis!

DSC_0145-001

I found the idea and inspiration for spring-flowering branches  at An Extraordinary Day~ using a paper punch to make book page flowers.

You can find the tutorial here.

DSC_0202-001

My branches in my Potting Shed were

ready to shed their oak leaves and

long overdue a spring face lift.

DSC_0054-001

Instead of a book, I used photo copies

of my vintage seed catalog also used

to create a wreath for my Potting Shed.

DSC_0237-002

A flower paper punch found at Hobby Lobby from The Paper Studio was used to cultivate :) 1 1/2 inch blossoms, which then sprouted from the branches with help of a glue gun.

This is a perfect little project for a rainy

afternoon or a day you need to be indoors!

DSC_0163-001

I was all aflutter over the paper punches

that were 50% off at Hobby Lobby.

DSC_0152-001

Like a butterfly seeking nectar, I found an ‘all over the page’  punch from Martha Stewart.

An ‘all over the page’ punch, as the name suggests lets you punch in the middle or anywhere on you paper, not just along the edge.

DSC_0017-001

Magnets help the top of the punch align

with the bottom of your punch on your paper.

To attach the butterflies to the burlap temporarily,

I used a dot glue runner instead of a glue gun.

Before I realized it

I had a butterfly migration~

DSC_0142-001

They found their way to my seed catalog wreath~

 before the metamorphosis pictured below~

And after the

butterfly migration~

Great idea for Spring! I think it would look pretty with some vintage colored paper too. You know, the ones that look like hand-colored lithographs? And I LOVE your butterflies, sweet!

Beautiful Mary! You come up with the most cleaver ideas. Love the addition to the wreath. It just adds something special. Next time you’re in the paper crafting area of the store, check out the distress inks. You apply them to the edges of your cut outs with a sponge dauber. It adds just a hint of color to your cut outs and makes the paper appear aged. I love using them. The added color makes things just pop!

  12. April 26, 2013 at 8:13 am

FABULOUS touch!!!! So creative! I’ll bet they’re a lot of fun to make and then to decide where to splash them about!

Mary, this looks like a fun project. Love the idea of the “all over the page” punch. Using copies of your see catalog was the perfect resource. Everything you do is so clever!

I think those hole punch gadgets are so much fun. :D I love your posts about your adorable potting shed….if I had one I’d play in it all day long and do little else!

  28. April 27, 2013 at 2:36 pm

    Mary:

It’s amazing how effective those punches are. I love the idea of the all over the page punch. I hadn’t seen those but now will be on the look out for them.

This is just too adorably cute! You certainly have a way with craft punches. You have me looking for a shamrock punch to use to cut out little spinach shamrocks, and now I see that I need a flower and butterfly as well. I do have an Eiffel Tower and Gondola though, so come up with something amazingly clever for those. ;-)
