The Potting Shed Garden Shop {Sign}

DSC_6871-002

It’s been a long hot summer and I’m beyond ready for fall, but Mother Nature has more summer temperatures for us in North Carolina before it’s time to shop for pumpkins, mums and Indian corn.

DSC_0102-001

My petunia-filled flower pouch on the door of my Potting Shed, suffered from heat exhaustion and couldn’t be resuscitated after a long weekend out-of-town.

DSC_5560-004

I was searching for something to replace it to hang on the back door of my shed while waiting for fall to arrive.

DSC_6863-001

While my shop days are behind me, but I was tickled to find a Potting Shed Garden Shop sign recently!

DSC_6887-001

I had a friend tell me: “You can take the girl out of retail, but not retail out of the girl.” :)

The Potting Shed Garden Shop, March – December, 7 Days a Week

Bulbs, Seeds, Plants

DSC_7091-001

I hung it on an old frame with hardware cloth attached to add some vintage charm and fill the panel of the door.

DSC_6900-001

The holes in the hardware cloth are ideal for hanging old garden tools using s-hooks and to fill in the space of the frame around the sign.

DSC_6893-001

I added some grapevine to wind around the sign. . .

DSC_6917-001

And I cut some wild grapevine to add some green around the tools of the sign.

DSC_6894-001

An old rake head and a couple of pots are wired onto the frame to hold bulbs and a bird’s nest.

Where did you find that CUTE sign? I love it and want one too.

Yes, I am ready for fall. =)

    • August 28, 2015 at 6:55 am

Hi Mary, I found it at The Depot at Gibson Mill in Concord, NC. If you’re ever in the area, you can shop ’til your drop and spend half a day there :)

Other than your petunia, the remainder of your containers, etc look very good!! Our soil, I think, has been depleted by all the rain and become hard and clay like. Therefor, I have pulled quite a few things out. They just looked ashen and tired! Yes, ready for some crisp, cool, days & evenings and some Fall color. Love the sign!! It looks like it’s ready for any season…😍😍😍🍁🍁🍁🐝🐞🐛☀️💦💨

Oh, I’m crazy about your new sign, it is just adorable! Must say, everything looks just beautiful!

Oh my gosh! Sign is brilliant, I love it. We’re having fall like weather here, but back into the nineties this weekend.😔

Your new sign is perfect Mary!!! I live in Lexington, Ky and we have had a week of fall like weather here, But summer is sneaking back to us for next week. Oh well, won’t be too long ’til we have the fall weather for good!! Hope it cools off for you real soon. Have a great weekend and give the pups a hug for me!!

  7. August 28, 2015 at 7:41 am

Cute! My petunias are toast also, after a recent vacation. I checked our farmers’ market yesterday to see if pumpkins were in yet (no), so I changed my garden flag, and started my textiles in the house. With a respite in temps here this week in WV, yes, I’m getting ready. Have a good weekend.

Absolutely inspired…you have such vision. Love it!

  9. August 28, 2015 at 7:45 am

Your new vintage-look sign was meant for you and your potting shed, Mary. I did love your cascading petunias, but this sign with all the embellishments is such a perfect welcoming addition.
And yes, I’m so ready to Fall to arrive, but I can’t count on it any time soon.
    Happy weekend, Mary!

  10. August 28, 2015 at 8:09 am

Oh I love it and love how you have embellished it! It is perfect for your door! Have a beautiful weekend. We have had several GLORIOUS days of low 80’s and no humidity but now are going back to the 90’s for at least a week:( I am SO ready to buy pumpkins and mums, yES!!!!

  11. August 28, 2015 at 8:30 am

Love your sign! You styled it perfectly for your potting shed! I’m with you on the weather- Georgia has had so much humidity this year; I’m past ready for Fall! Have a great weekend!

Love the sign looks at home on your door. We have had 3 days of fall like weather this week, lake affect clouds, misty rain and temps only in the low 60’s daytime and high 40’s at night. Ah yes 90’s returning next week. Mary have you ever tried the bulb looking glass ornaments (can’t think of their names) for your planters? You fill them with water place the bulb up side down in your planter and they slowly release water to your plants. Your petunia basket was beautiful so sorry you lost it to the heat.

Loving I it . Adore your Potting Shed. Especially the Sign.

  14. August 28, 2015 at 8:53 am

It’s perfect! I’m sorry for your petunia loss, but what a happy accident after all! The hardware cloth backing really makes it, along with the tools and grapevine~ it’s adorable! I have a worn out dried hydrangea wreath currently on my front door, you have inspired me to get busy! Your sign is simply totally brilliant Mary! Have a great weekend :)

You are so creative! I had something go wrong with my petunias too. They were growing like mad and then suddenly they were sickly. I cut them way back but they won’t fully recover to be as nice as they were. I like how you hung the sign on the old frame with hardware cloth- perfect! You are a true tinkerer!

So love this, I have a wire frame I use frequently, but with the addition of your sign it’s magical, I love it! I have the perfect sign to add myself, but alas my garden days lie inland with my seashell heart elsewhere these days. A stunning addition, can’t wait to revamp mine one day :-)

  21. August 28, 2015 at 10:44 am

Mary, the sign was a perfect find. It’s a great piece, but I dare say that the way you framed it with the grape vine and vintage tools makes it all a piece of art. Your creative talent continually awes me. With no potting shed of my own, I dream about your charming shed. Hope cooler days are ahead for all of us. I’m ready!

I am in love with your potting shed and everything about it! You get the wheels turning in my mind, and I want to start bringing fall to my front porch. Thanks for all this lovely inspiration!

I am new to your blog and thank you so much for the joy and inspiration it brings.
Love the sign – I have used that graphic for years as my garden club’s logo so it would be so special to be able to purchase a sign. Do you remember the name of the vendor please?

    • August 28, 2015 at 2:21 pm

Hi Jan, I’m sorry I don’t know, there are 600 dealers there. I think I found it in the Cannon room, but I’m not certain.

Love your sign and happy for your great find! No, I’m not ready for fall as we had such a wet June, I want summer to last a little longer. We are currently renting a sweet old fashioned cabin on Houghton Lake, which is northern Michigan and the weather has been in the 50’s! Really felt like fall. Was so glad it reached the high 70’s today and we got to go in the water and do some pontooning! So much fun!! :)

  34. August 29, 2015 at 6:56 am

That sign could not be more perfect for the potting shed!….and of course you would make it even more beautiful by embellishing it with the garden tools…and love the backdrop….Yes, I am so ready for mums!!! The “front porch” looks amazing Mary. Now, have you ever taken inventory on how many watering cans you have?….I so love them all….

You are so talented! The sign with your embellishment is fantastic!

  36. August 29, 2015 at 11:59 am

What a great sign. I love how you used it for the door. Perfect!

  37. Mary N.
    August 29, 2015 at 12:53 pm

Love the door decor. It would last about 3 minutes around here before squirrels would be hanging off the door eating the bulbs! Enjoy!

  38. August 29, 2015 at 7:11 pm

Your sign is too cute. I bet you’re REALLY looking forward to decorating for autumn. :) I was just looking at some of your boating posts, and I think our Crest is the same model as yours. I love it! I love the layout, and the newer ones don’t have layouts I like as well. We’re at the lake watching it rain. Again. So I’ve been a lazy bum reading a romance novel all day! ;P

  39. August 30, 2015 at 7:34 am

Mary, If all the goodies on your shed porch weren’t enticing enough, your new sign will be sure to attract some visitors hoping to take a peek inside and maybe find some goodies to add to their own collections at this adorable potting shed garden shop! I know that I would be screeching to a halt and jumping out for some “shopping” if I saw this! I love it and you are so clever with the framing. We just pulled down long trails of grapevines and I was intoxicated by the wild grape smell. Not so sweet tasting, though! And yes, I am actually ready for fall to begin this year! Linda

  40. August 31, 2015 at 6:12 pm

I’m so not ready for Fall ( living in 4 season climate will do that to you lol )
Your sign is just gorgeous – what a find – it fits your beautiful potting shed so perfectly !

  41. September 1, 2015 at 5:51 pm

Oh my goodness, there is that fabulous potting shed again! I am swooning over your sign now too – such a great idea and fabulous reuse of old gardening tools. Pinning this idea because some day when I have my own potting shed, I’d like to add something similar to the door. A girl can dream!

  42. September 1, 2015 at 9:16 pm

Oh Mary! I am just lusting over your new sign! But what I love most about it is how you displayed it with the grapevine and vintage tools! You are a styling genius!

    Hi Mary,
I’m in love with your Potting Shed Garden Sign! You’re so creative how you framed it and added all the vintage garden treasures you’ve collected. It looks fantastic!! Thanks for sharing your find!

If it’s of any help it’s been no cooler in inland NC (Cary) either! My geraniums have tried their best to survive the summer heat but they are looking pretty leggy but the asparagus fern with it is going crazy (must like the hot dry weather)! That sign is soo cute and a nice pre-Fall start. Yeah, I think I’ll wait on pumpkins… unless I want to serve up some pumpkin soup!!!

Mary I love your shed sign!! Great look. Thanks for joining Home Sweet Home!

What you’ve done with your garden shed is giving me some great ideas to spruce up mine. Love the sign too. Now I’m glad we didn’t sell all of our old garden tools at last month’s yard sale. By the way, I just subscribed to your wonderful blog.

would you be able to tell me the booth number or name? I called the antique Mall they were unable to help They said they have too many booth and needed a name Thank you so much your web page is too cute. I’m so glad I found it thanks again my email is nanaejl@yahoo.com

    • October 27, 2016 at 2:52 pm

Hi Earlene, Sorry but I didn’t pay attention to the name of the booth, most of them don’t have names. The booth was in the Cannon room (where the entrance and check out is) and it was sort of across from where the restrooms were. I was there about a month ago and of course that booth’s inventory was totally changed with fall merchandise.

    • October 21, 2018 at 7:49 pm

I found it at The Depot at Gibson Mill a couple of years ago.
