Guest Bloggers Chloe & Gracie: Bunny Ears and Homemade Dog Treats

Hi everyone, this is Chloe & Gracie and we hope you had a Happy Easter! Whew, our mom and dad had such a busy weekend! They worked on gardening chores, cleaning up pollen, and getting the pontoon ready for boating season. It was a beautiful weekend to be outdoors and our mom planted flowers in her window boxes and in some containers around her Potting Shed.

Since she’s tired this morning, we told her we’d do this post for her. She says the hardest part of blogging for her is writing! She’d rather just share photos without having to add all the words, so we said we’d guest post for her this morning.

She snuck in a little flower fun and Easter celebrating for us this weekend.

She found floral headbands at Target a couple of weeks ago that she said reminded her of her blooming bunny plates when she saw them!

She added bunny ears to the headbands using large chenille stems she found at Hobby Lobby. To help keep the headbands on our heads, she wrapped a white chenille stem on the bottom to pull the ends together and so they fit a little more snugly and blended in with our fur too.

It’s not Easter without some treats, so she made a batch for us and to share with Maddie, Zoe, Penny, Presley and Bindi. She says this recipe makes lots of treats and she can freeze some too, to have on hand.

She has several sets of these plunger-style cookie or pie crust stamps. She found this set at Walmart last year for $3.00.

She says these spring-loaded style cutters makes these treats dog gone easy! You press the cutter into the dough to punch out the shape, then press the plunger to make the impressions and release the dough onto a parchment-lined baking sheet.

Healthy Dog Treats

Makes approximately 6 dozen 2-inch treats

Ingredients

1/2 cup unsweetened applesauce

1 egg

1/2 cup *peanut butter (*make sure your peanut butter does not contain Xylitol, a natural sugar alcohol sweetener which is harmful to dogs)

2 cups whole-wheat flour

 1/4 cup cornmeal

 1/4 cup quick cook oats

Directions

Preheat oven to 350 degrees.

In the bowl of food processor, add applesauce, egg, and peanut butter. Pulse to combine.

Add flour, cornmeal, and oats and process until dough comes together.

Turn dough onto floured surface and knead and roll out to ¼ inch thick and cut into shapes. (Dough will be crumbly). Reroll scraps and repeat.

Place treats on parchment-lined cookie sheet and bake 12 minutes – 15 minutes or until treats are firm and edges are starting to brown. Cool on a wire rack and store treats in airtight container.

You can use any shape or size cookie cutter to make these treats. If you’re using a larger size cookie cutter, increase the baking time.

You can fetch ;) a printable recipe, here.

Our dad says he can’t believe our mom put these crazy headbands on our heads and that we look like demented Easter bunnies!

She just laughs and we don’t mind because we know when she grabs her camera, that we’ll get plenty of treats. ;)

Mom says to tell you that she hopes you’re enjoying some beautiful spring weather and flowers where you are!

Thank you for your visit!

You girls tell your mom to kick back and enjoy some time for herself. She deserves a break! Also tell her that the clever floral bunny ears could be marketed. You all could go into business. Just think of all the doggie treats you could buy with the money that would be rolling in. ;-)
It’s beautiful here as well, and Sadie and I send you two big hugs. Tell your mom we think she is the best ever! Happy Spring, girls!

Chloe and Grace, I read your wonderful blog to Gaelen. He’s my Maine Coon cat and loved hearing about your Easter with your Mom and Dad. I tried bunny ears on him and he wasn’t impressed, but he thinks he might like homemade treats, if your Mom knows a recipe for cats. Gaelen also thinks you two are so cute even without the bunny ears and thinks your Dad needs to relax and have some fun. Thank you for filling in for your Mom and tell her to have a lovely rest.

So cute!! They look like little Frida Kahlo dogs.

So much about your life ‘going to the dogs’, LOL… they are just too cute. Somehow, I wonder if we ever miss any pictures of ‘dog failures’, when they aren’t being so good—they always look like such little angels. Made me laugh, thanks, Sandi
