I’m at the table with Something Blue~
An essential part of the Mikasa I Do Collection, inspired by the traditional wedding practice with a modern twist to the concept of blue.
Timely, since I think of August as a wedding month, with my parents and my in-laws having August anniversaries and as we celebrate our 29th anniversary on August 18th!
And with a fun play on the wedding tradition of the four objects that the bride carries with her on the big day as good luck charms. . .
This tradition comes from an Old English rhyme “Something Olde, Something New, Something Borrowed, Something Blue, A Silver Sixpence in your Shoe”.
Something old represents continuity; something new offers optimism for the future; something borrowed symbolizes borrowed happiness; something blue stands for purity, love, and fidelity; and a sixpence in your shoe is a wish for good fortune and prosperity.
With a blend of rustic and refined, I married the textures of the jute tablecloth and woven chargers with the sparkling surfaces of the crystal goblets and silver wine chiller.
Oxidized silver chargers with their time-worn patina, are used to have and to hold the Something Blue Dinnerware, contrasting with sleek design of the platinum geometric borders.
For my something old, I’m at the table with my mother-in-law’s crystal pattern, chosen 63 years ago for her wedding day.
For something new, I have a new set of chair napkin rings, representing furniture~ budget friendly, and the suggested modern gift commemorating our 29th wedding anniversary :)
My something borrowed is a silver candelabra given to my parents on their wedding day. It’s providing a little romance to a planter and softened with some additional ivy sprigs tying the knot!
With a nod to a bridal gown, a pearl-trimmed napkin (Pier 1) is wed with a patterned one (Raymond Waites, HomeGoods).
Something Blue Dinnerware has a subtle but distinct line pattern in baby blue, framed by a geometric platinum border.
And the teacups have a distinctive and modern shape.
Thrifted silver plate chargers lend a casual charm with their faded and time-worn patina.
And Hydrangeas and ivy soften and add some additional romance to the union of the tarnished charger and polished wine chiller.

Mary, I so enjoyed this post. If I were a young bride selecting wedding china, I’d be smitten with this pattern. Blue is a favorite for me, and the simplicity of this pattern really speaks to my heart. The way you’ve paired it with the rustic burlap cloth, the aged silver chargers, and that gorgeous crystal makes it totally perfection. I’m off to visit the site for the burlap cloth.
