Happy Monday!

I’m joining my blogging friends for some flower therapy and Monday Morning Blooms.

You can find my friends’ links to their floral inspiration at the bottom of this post.

Our weekend started out with strong blustery winds and rain on Friday. The storms moved out by Friday evening, leaving sunshine and brisk temps in their wake. After five months of summer and record-breaking heat in October, I’m thrilled that ‘sweater weather’ has finally arrived with the highs in the low 60s!

I set a table to enjoy some alfresco dining. . . have a seat, there’s a cozy plaid throw for your lap if you’re chilled!

Our theme for this week’s edition of Monday Morning Blooms was feathers.

I love the texture and interest feathers add to a fall or Thanksgiving arrangement. I have some pheasant feathers in my Christmas stash that I’ve used in my Winter Nesting Tree and a Welcome Fall Wreath. You can find pheasant feathers on Amazon in quantities of 10 to 100 pieces.

A combination of hydrangeas, roses and mums from the grocery store fill a tureen as a centerpiece for the table. I tucked the feathers in the arrangement among the blooms.

Feather cones from my retail days provide a little ‘tussie mussie’ and vase for mums at each placesetting.

The mums’ multi stems were too big to fit in floral water tubes, so stems were placed in a wet paper towel and wrapped in plastic wrap before adding them to the cones.

A brown, cream and blue striped plaid tablecloth provides a foundation for the table.

Wood and burnished copper chargers are layered for interest and texture, to frame white plates.

Amber goblets add a soft golden glow while bone-handled flatware adds some warm texture, along with linen hemstitch napkins.

Tiger stripe and mini white pumpkins, nuts, and additional feathers were added to the table, placed on and around a wood board, which serves as a riser, elevating the centerpiece.

Lola decided she’d had enough of being cooped up on the porch and escaped to hop in a chair at the table. She’s done gone happy it’s sweater weather too. 🐾 :)

Beautiful colors! The pheasant feathers makes one imagine the real birds will be close by with all their fall glory! The blue lake makes the scene appear calm and peaceful. Thank you Mary for all the effort you put into this for us.

Wow, you ALWAYS deliver in such grand style, Mary! Not only is the floral arrangement quite eye-catching, but those tussie mussies are to die for! I caught a glimpse of those in the first frame and wondered if you’d made them from paper but noooo, they’re the real deal. Gorgeous! This setting was the perfect backdrop. Our storm happened on the Thursday (Trick or Treat), prompting the city to move the kids’ even to Saturday evening. Our weekend was beautiful, just like yours turned out to be. A fabulous display you have there.

So stunning Mary! The white roses and white tureen are such a beautiful contrast to the spidery mums and feathers! Your table is simply screaming Celebrate Fall! Your arrangement is elegant yet humble enough to mingle with the natural elements, pumpkins and wood on your table. The feather tussie mussies are incredible! Yes, sweater weather has arrived! Thank you for the glorious eye candy and a wonderful way to start the week!

Mary, you never surprise me with your over the moon creations. Love how you coordinated the colors of the arrangement so beautifully with the colors in your fall tablescape by the lake. It truly wants you to grab that throw, sit at your table and enjoy the view of the table against the background of the shimmering lake. I love feathers in anything! I remember as a child for the short time we lived in Iowa, we kids playing with the feathers of the pheasants that my dad brought back from a hunting trip. Those feather cones are truly magnificent! Miss being with you all and hope to join you soon!!! Have a fabulous fall day! There was frost not the roof today!

Love Fall colors…so warm and cozy! Can’t wait to add some Pheasant feathers to a Fall arrangement. I have two beautiful brass Pheasants to add to the table top. Your blog inspires me :)

Such a beautiful setting Mary! It’s no wonder your darling Lola wants to join the party! That plaid is the perfect backdrop for all those gorgeous warm autumn colors! I agree with Rhonda, you always delight and inspire, your table with the tine feathered centerpiece is most delightful! It’s always a blessing to join you, darling friend, on our Monday Morning Blooms.

Mary, I really like your use of feathers in a fall arrangement I got some last year and used them with wheat in a dark amber vase but never thought of adding them into fresh flowers. Do you have any problem with putting the feathers in water or oasis? Certainly enjoying these cooler temps. Been planting pansies, spring bulbs and some containerized shrubs I bought this summer.

    • November 4, 2019 at 1:29 pm

Hi Kathy, I haven’t used them in water or wet foam. I usually tuck them between the blooms in the arrangement when it’s finished. The petals and greenery will hold the feathers in place. :)

Yes, I’ll grab my favorite checkered throw and sit a while enjoying your lovely Autumn table and that lovely lake view. Your table is so elegant and inviting with the soft crams and browns, love the feathers and those double chargers of burnished copper and wood! Awesome. I use both pheasant and left- behind-turkey feathers from my sister’s yard (they come and eat the birdseed on the ground from her bird feeders, ha) for my Fall tree. Thank you Mary, another perfect tablescape!

Mary, what a treat to join you lakeside for your feathered alfresco table. A warm throw would be much appreciated with our cooler temps, but I am not complaining. Your centerpiece in the white tureen with roses and the warm feathers is just gorgeous. The tussie mussies are the pieces de resistance, I would love to find some of those. You are an inspiration with each post my friend. It is always a pleasure to share MMB’s with you and I look forward to dining with you tomorrow!❤️

This is beautiful as are all of your tablescapes. I love the tussie mussie’s and think a wet paper towel is a great idea! Pinned.

Such a lovely way to spend time by the water in the fall at your beautiful table. Throughly enjoyed your post today. Like you our temperatures during the day are quite pleasant now. We did have strong winds and heavy rain Thursday night, thankfully after the little ghosts and goblins had gone in for the night.

Those Feather cones… “Tussie Mussies” …are fabulous! Your entire Tablescape is stunning and I am thrilled you had a little visitor as well! :)

A beutiful, warm tablescape, The throws are ideal…love it and complimenting your outdoor furniture. I’ve used the pheasant feathers before and at the top of my Christmas tree (in quantity) in lieu of traditional toppers. I enjoy unique/unusual (but not too severe), out of the box items. Kudos to you and look forward to your future posts and ideas. I hope and pray the woman you mentioned, her health in need of thoughts and prayers.

YOU MUST HAVE been sending “vibes” as I, too, just did my Thanksgiving arrangement with pheasant feathers!! Those “cones” of yours are fab!! This year I’m doing a “floral chandelier.” I cut my old Autumn wreath in three pieces and stuffed it around the lights…more leaves, gold sticks, feathers and when the time is closer (eeek, just around the bend…) I’ll finish with fresh flowers. franki

I’d love to take a seat at your table, with the cozy throw and Lola to visit with! Your feathery and floral arrangement is beautiful , Mary, and I love it on that wooden board for elevation. The feather cones are so pretty on each plate. Yea to sweater weather! xo
