Gorgeous….love NC! Such stunning views from every direction…every time we get the opportunity to drive through, I want to stop and move in permanently!
Lambs ears, pitch forks and barns! Oh MY! I adore barns, weathered wood or paint, they evoke fond memories of my grandfathers’s cow barn, a foggy mysterious place… It still enters my dreams once in a far while….
Mary, the Blue Ridge Mountains area is one of the prettiest in our country in my mind. I would love to be there spending time in the coolness of all that beauty. Your photography is incredible! The weathered barns and lichen covered fences against the blue sky offer stunning contrasts.
Beautiful post, my friend!
An absolutely gorgeous area Mary! Your photographer skills amaze me! I think everyone is enjoying the lower humidity and cooler temperatures! Hugs to you and the girls!
Breathtaking views….stunningly beautiful, as always, photography….
Brought back memories….Way back, long time ago, I had friends who owned a place at Caesar’s Head Mountain on the SC-NC border, not far from Brevard. It was so much fun to visit and spend weekends there!
Perfect timing with the weather. How nice! I love the old barns and nice you captured them which made a very pleasant post. Glad you enjoyed your get away and shared with us. Great mountain views. I can picture what a pleasant time you enjoyed.
I used to love looking at the barns as I drove a backroad between Hot Springs, NC and Erwin, TN. A beautiful drive anyway but the barns along the way made it a special drive! Well worth the visit to that neck of the woods . . . for many reasons!
We went to Virginia in May to look for a place to live. We are currently in CT but are retired and want warmer. That was the first time we saw the Blue Ridge Mountains and I have to admit they took my breath away. They are absolutely beautiful. Saw a lot of old barns and cows and loved every one of them.
that was all so beautiful… i have missed your pics, no net for 10 days, and now this stupid 8.1 doesn’t support pinning so i can’t even steal all this stuff! so much to love, looks like a fab getaway for you. as for keeping cool, try cold coastal living girl, its all the rage our west :-(
Patty, you will still experience cold weather and snow in NC mountains..Consider going over on the Eastern part of NC. I’m from nearby Wilmington, NC area and it’s a wonderful place to live, close to many beaches and snow is a rarity there, property taxes are lower and a lot of things to do in the area. Check out Brunswick county, NC, outside of Wilmington. It is the fastest growing county in NC according to last census but there’s still room for a lot of growth. Myrtle Beach is only 68-70 miles from Wilmington, NC..
We just came back from OBX, NC. These pics make me long to return to North Carolina. I love every part of it and am ready to move to this beautiful, diverse state. Your barn pics are rustic beauty, aged with grace and hard work. Love them, they make me want to move to NC even more now. Thank you for sharing them with us! God bless.
Mary!!! I first viewed your post on my phone and came back this morning to comment and pin some barns ~~ I have a barn love board :) ~~ and I found your beautiful new site!!!! So exciting and it is just gorgeous!! Looking forward to reading some of your former posts with your new design now!! The quilt barns are so interesting. I have seen a few, although the map doesn’t have a CT link and our poor little neighboring Rhode Island has been forgotten altogether! :) I love seeing your travel posts, especially of places I’m adding to my future travels list. I hope you have a wonderful and cool Sunday. Linda
What a wonderful escape Mary, stunning photographs~what is it about old barns that makes them so irresistible? Sounds like a lovely get away. I love your new look too!

Love the NC mountains in the summer…used to go to Beech Mountain every summer…got away from that…need to get away soon and enjoy the mountain air…love the benches overlooking the mountains…is that at a resort?…Magnificent photos Mary…and love the pitch fork art!!
The mountains of NC are one the most beautiful places we have visited. We went there several times in the past and I may see if we can do a get away in the Fall. It will be GORGEOUS! Can you tell me when the good fall color will be? Your photos are amazing and make me want to get in the car!!!!
Hi Pinky, I always have to google ‘peak fall color Blue Ridge Parkway’ every year. It depends on how quickly it cools down but it’s usually mid to late October, much later arriving to NC than in PA :)

Lovely! I love barns and these are absolutely beautiful.
The pictures were enjoyed by all of us. We live in fairly flat Iowa, no mountains, but we do have barn quilts. Thank you for sharing.
Your barn pictures are wonderful. I feel extremely blessed to live here in the NC Blue Ridge Mountains.
