Spring arrives on Friday and I’m ready to plant! I’m waiting until after our frost date of April 15th, so in the meantime I’m in the Potting Shed with a little seed box fun.
I pulled out my vintage Mandeville & King Co. Superior Flower Seeds Box. . .
And added some hyacinth bulbs, blooming with their fragrant promise of spring.
Vintage-inspired seed packets with their colorful graphics, reproduced as postcards, promise blooms from some triple-tested flower seeds, 5 – 10 cents.
And a collection of vintage almanacs and seed catalogs provide a little garden wisdom and planting inspiration.
Stamped spoon and fork plant markers offer gardening encouragement. . .

Lovely, lovely post! The vintage box is incredible. I feel like going antiquing right after breakfast, but I’m sure I won’t find anything so wonderful.
You are very lucky with a frost date of April 15th. In our neck of the woods, our planting date is after Mother’s Day. I have tried several times to rush that date and was sorry every time. That said, your antique items are wonderful. My favorite flower to grow from seed is Zinnias. Most of them are picture perfect. Oh, can’t wait!!! Have a great day!!!

Love your gardening post with the beautiful purple hyacinths!! My husband (Rich) is the one who is the gardener and has planted different colors of hyacinths along with peonies and tulips in our front yard. He also plants a vegetable garden every year in the back yard with corn, squash, tomatoes, green beans. In our area the planting season is after Mother’s Day. Unfortunately, even though spring starts tomorrow in our area, we will get another blast of snow (1-2 inches) which will change to rain later in the day. It should all be gone on Saturday since the temperatures will be in the 60’s.

I am dying to get some blooms going, but I must admit I need to brush up on my garden wisdom :) Love the seed box, and all your vintage seed packets~ I saw a cherry crate at HG the other day and it reminded me of you~LOVE the chicken wire cloche! Love that box and the purple hyacinths are a GORGEOUS color!! I bought a hyacinth, tete-a-tete and a ranunculus yesterday and have a vignette on my kitchen table that I am sharing tomorrow. The hyacinth smells like a slice of Heaven!!!

Hi Mary, The first day of Spring is supposed to bring 3-5″ of snow for us so I am enjoying dreaming about planting and looking over all your goodies here! Our first day of spring brought rain, lots of rain. We need it, but it kept me from puttering in the garden. Guess that will have to wait till next week when things dry out a bit.
Hit the post button too soon……… wanted to say how pretty this all is. Loving the hyacinths, of course. Mine didn’t do so well this season, but I managed to capture a gorgeous group in a neighbor’s garden. Happy Spring!
