We were invited to Charleston, SC for a weekend of food & fun with friends a couple of weekends ago. We park the car once we arrive, walking to our destinations and dinner. Charleston is a foodie’s paradise and we enjoy touring with our taste buds and attempt to walk off some of the calories we consume!
No matter how many times I visit, I always enjoy taking a stroll in the early morning hours with my camera, enjoying the stately homes, Palmetto Trees, courtyard gardens, architecture, wrought iron gates.
We were several weeks too early to see much in bloom, the weather was cold and rainy the first day we were there but warmed up to the low 70’s by the end of weekend. I recommend visiting Charleston April through June, before the mercury and humidity rises to sweltering.
If you enjoy history, antebellum homes, and great food, you’ll be charmed by the hospitality and Southern flavor of Charleston! Enjoy your virtual tour and stroll :)

I love going to Charleston with you Mary~there is something about doors and gates and shutters and gardens that just makes life not only more interesting, but a little mysterious! Gorgeous photos, glad the weather improved before you left!

Mary! I was reading an article in SoLiv mag earlier this morning about the doors in Charleston and now I see these beautiful photos! I think someone is trying to tell me that it’s time to visit this historic city. The architectural details are so interesting that it doesn’t even matter if the blooms are out yet. Did you pick your favorite house as you walked? Perhaps the yellow with the double porch for me, although I’ll need a wrought iron gate too. Thanks for the tour. Linda
My favorite photographs have to be the ironwork close ups. Such an amazing art that still remains gorgeous today! But then it seems that anything in Charleston becomes photographic just because of the historic atmosphere there. Thank you for sharing these pictures !! Love them
I adore Charleston! We visited for the first time last spring and I am ready to go back. So much to see and never enough time. Thank you for bringing back some wonderful memories!

Mary, good friends were there just a few weeks ago. Listening to them tell about their trip and scrolling through your images makes me long for a little Charleston vacation. We’ve been in March and in the summer for the Spoleto Festival. I long to return during the garden tour season. Your photo tour has me dreaming. ;-)

Thank you for sharing your photos of Charleston. What a beautiful and historic city. Your photos are magnificent. I’ve never been to Charleston but hope we will take a trip one day. The only part of South Carolina I’ve been to was the Columbia area where my husband’s Uncle Ionel and Aunt Betty had lived. Sadly they have been gone for a few years.

Our sweet grand daughter is here and down for her nap so I loved seeing this wonderful tour. I want so badly to go there for a few days and tour it. So much beauty, LOVE the iron gates and fences!
Thanks for reviving some of my beautiful memories of visits to this incredible city… when I lived in SC we would make day trips to Charleston often. Sometimes for the day, weekend, Spoleto events or even for just a restaurant meal! There was a house with a green door on Tradd Street that was always a magnet for me…not sure why, but I kept thinking that one day I would write a story about “The House with the Green Door”.
BTW, I have a friend who manages The Spice & Tea Exchange store in Charleston – She lived in Hawai’i several years before moving to that city, but I have known her for many years before that through foodie groups on the Internet – (https://www.facebook.com/TSTECharleston) Maybe you can drop by the store next time you’re there, if you haven’t already!

Your photographs are beautiful. We visited many years ago, but fell in love with the grace and charm. If anyone is planning to visit, try to take a horse drawn carriage tour – our guide was very knowledgeable and amusing. Worth every penny.

Ah, Mary, I feel like I’ve taken a beautiful stroll this morning through your photos! I pinned many of them to my “Smiling Faces, Beautiful Places” board. I need to photograph some places in the Old Village in Mount Pleasant. That;s where I used to teach so I know where some beautiful spots are over there.

Lovely photos of my favorite US city! I miss it when I am not there for a few months! So beautiful, so much good food, very nice shopping. I love to walk and walk and walk. My favorite stroll is from top( N end) of Church street started at graveyard all way S till Church St ends. Quiet and gorgeous street.

We went last Nov. and were simply enchanted! I highly recommend the tour of the Calhoun House for an antique lover! The amazing, quirky and vast collection was captivating to my husband!
