A Jolly Halloween Table

With Halloween less than two weeks away, my cauldron is bubbling with fun and inspiration for a Happy Haunting!

dsc_3754-001

I like to keep the ‘Happy’ or ‘Jolly’ in Halloween, so I couldn’t resist these vintage-inspired Halloween greetings with little witches.

dsc_3644-001

Wiccan Lace plates with the quintessential black cats, bats, haunted houses and spider webs were at HomeGoods, a favorite haunt, a couple of weeks ago.

dsc_3828-001

They’re paired with beaded spider napkin rings and festive orange and black tinsel-woven placemats.

An 8-light metal candle centerpiece, used at the table here, is filled with candy corn, witch hat tealights, and flowers.

These vivid orange sunflowers with their dyed purple leaves stopped me in my tracks when I spied them at the grocery store.  I usually think dyed flowers are downright scary, but these sunflowers and the contrast of the purple and orange seemed eerily perfect for a Halloween table.

“On Hallowe’en the thing you must do

Is pretend that nothing can frighten you. . .”

dsc_3626-001

For the weight of the sunflowers, I placed a piece of chicken wire in the vase to support the stems, camouflaged and hidden by some vivid orange maple leaves.

dsc_3839-001

Orangy-red mums and some greenery foraged from the shrubs and planters, add some contrast and lime green color to the centerpiece.

dsc_3670-001

A black and white checked tablecloth provides a foundation for the table and mini pumpkins are adorned with black and white checked ribbon tied on their stems.

“For Ways that are dark and tricks that are vain. . . Watch Out!”

It’s not Halloween without a few treats!

A set of four Grace’s Teaware polka dot cupcake stands were scared up at HomeGoods for $9.99.

And all witches need festive straws to sip their brew!

I gasped when I saw that gorgeous sunflower with it’s purple leaves…so stunning. In fact, the whole centerpiece is stunning. And, I was bewitched by the entire tablescape. You did it again…you put a smile on my face!!! Thank you, Mary!

this is a Jolly Halloween! What a cute poem! The sunflowers are crazy cool Mary, and I love your candy corn filled candelabra- I had those adorable cupcake stands in my buggy at HG last trip, and with great restraint put them back…so cute! The tinsel placemats are really a wow factor too, very fun :) I can’t wait to play with my new box of giveaway goodies and brew up some magic!

Those flowers are spectacular, Mary, and make for the perfect centerpiece. Filling the votives with candy corn, and then topped with a witch’s tea light, is such a fun idea. I’m loving the cupcake pedestals, and of course, the yummy cupcake is calling my name. I’d love to be a guest at your happy Halloween table!

oh mary .. i was delighted when i read: “i like to keep happy and jolly in halloween” … with all the ‘scary and sad’ that is in this olde world of ours, and having three beautiful little ‘cute witches’ for grand-daughters, i made a decision to get rid of all ‘scary monsters and dreadful souls’ amongst my halloween decorations .. yep! just threw them in the trash! don’t even want to donate them to a thrift store and perpetuate ‘horror’ in other homes. i remembered the ‘gentleness’ that was halloween in my own childhood and that is what i believe halloween should be all about … HAPPY AND JOLLY! THANK YOU FOR REMINDING US ALL WITH YOUR ‘GENTLE SOUL’.

Just looking for Sperry low flowered boots.  Would like to purchase a pair.  They may have been on Naps on the Porch.  Any help would be sooo appreciated. Carol Wilson

The brand is Sloggers, not Sperry. They offer lots of prints. Do an online search to see, I found mine on Amazon several years ago. :)

This is such a beautiful post. That centerpiece took my breath away. You are sooooooooo creative. I’ll be out of the country for this Halloween (Italy) so it was a TREAT to view all the fun of the last day of October on your blog. I am also trying to stay out of HG but after seeing all the pretties here I may have to make a visit. Vikki in VA

What would we do without Home Goods?!!! It really is my one addiction in life!!! (Cackle, cackle!)
I adore the polka dotted little cake pedestals, and the lace plates are fabulous. What a clever idea to fill the candle cups with candy.

This is exactly my type of Halloween table, Mary! I love those plates! What a find! I’ll have to stop at HomeGoods the minute the open the store today. I, too, am not crazy about the ghoulish, absolutely dreadful turn Halloween has taken over the years. That sunflower is stunning! This table is utterly delightful!
