I’m sharing a fun and easy craft project, a Pressed Flower Vase!

Creating a vase embellished with dried, pressed flowers is a fun DIY project that adds additional flower power to your arrangement or bouquet! You can use this method to dress up any glass vase or jar using pressed flowers.

Here are the easy steps and materials needed to embellish a plain glass vase or jar.

Supplies Needed:
🌸 Glass Vase or Jar: Hobby Lobby or Dollar Tree are great sources for affordable glass vases if you don’t already have one
🌸 Dried Pressed Flowers: Available on Amazon (links below) or use flowers that you have dried and pressed
🌸 Mod Podge: I used Gloss Mod Podge. It serves as a glue for the flowers and a sealer for your vase and gives the glass a ‘frosted’ appearance.
🌸 Paint brush
🌸 Tweezers: For placement of delicate dried flowers and/or greenery
I used an assortment of these dried pressed flowers to embellish my vase, along with some jars, that can serve as votive holders or mini vases and had some leftover. Let your creativity bloom and use dried pressed flowers to embellish picture frames, notecards or candles!

Instructions:
🌸 Prepare the Vase:
Start with a clean and dry vase. Wipe the surface of your vase with rubbing alcohol to remove any oil residue on the glass that might affect the adhesion of your dried flowers.
🌸 Arrange the Pressed Flowers:
Lay out your pressed flowers on a flat surface to plan your design. Use tweezers to handle the delicate petals and arrange them as desired on the vase. You can create a pattern or a random scattering, depending on your preference.
🌸 Apply Mod Podge:
Using a paint brush, apply a thin layer of Mod Podge onto a small section of the vase where you plan to place your flower. Gently press the flower onto the Mod Podge-coated area. Apply another thin layer of Mod Podge over the flower to seal it in place. Repeat the process, working in small sections, until the entire vase is decorated.
🌸 Seal the Design:
Once your flowers are adhered and the Mod Podge has dried, apply 2 – 3 additional coats of Mod Podge over the entire vase, allowing each coat to dry for 1 – 2 hours. This ensures the design is well-sealed and protected. Allow the vase to cure for at least 24 hours before handling.
🌸 Optional step: Use a clear spray sealer to reduce tackiness and for additional durability if desired.

I recycled some Oui yogurt jars to use as votive holders or mini vases. I used some Rub ‘n Buff in Antique Gold to embellish the rims, applying it with a Q-tip.

If you’re not familiar with Rub ‘n Buff, it’s made from metallic pigments and carnauba wax, and self-seals, acting as its own waterproof barrier. Rub ‘n Buff is ideal to use on picture frame moldings, highlighting wood detailing on furniture, updating drawer pulls and hardware, candlesticks, light fixtures, lamps or almost any metal or painted wood surface.

A little Rub ‘n Buff goes a long way. . . a 1/2 oz. (15 ml) tube can cover up to 20 square feet!

Hydrangeas, Charmelia and Tulips from the supermarket, join garden foliage, hosta leaves and
wild Ox-eye Daises, for a spring floral arrangement.

To create my flower arrangement, I used this Pillow Floral Cage Arranger!
It works like chicken wire, without the sharp edges, and is made of plastic so it doesn’t rust.

It’s 6 inches wide which is the diameter of my vase. I placed it on top of the vase without taping it in place, but you can use waterproof floral tape to secure it for flower arranging if needed. It’s also available in a 4 inch size.

Long time readers have heard me sing the praises of Crowning Glory Solution Floral Spray to give them their longest vase life!
It’s an antitranspirant spray that seals in moisture and dries clear. It’s safe to use on all flower types and is especially beneficial for flowers that are prone to wilting due to moisture loss, like hydrangeas.
Crowning Glory dries in approximately 30 minutes depending on the temperature and humidity.

In addition to Crowning Glory, here are few more tips to extend the life of your flower arrangement:
🌸 Cut your flower stems at a 45 degree angle for maximum water uptake and remove any leaves below the water line.
🌸 Always add floral preservative to room temperature vase water.
🌸 Check your water level frequently, topping off as needed, especially if using thirsty flowers like hydrangeas, and change your vase water every other day if possible. The Pillow Floral Cage Arranger makes it easy to lift out your flowers for a quick water change.
🌸 Remove any wilting and fading flowers as they produce ethylene gas, which can hasten the decline of neighboring flowers.
🌸 Keep your flower arrangement away from heat or direct sunlight.

Good morning, Mary. I can’t believe it is 46 degrees here. The pressed flower vase is just beautiful filled with hydrangeas, charmelia, and tulips joining your garden foliage, hosta leaves and wild Ox-eye daisies. It is a charming arrangement for Mother’s Day! I save Oui jars for little projects with my girls, I also enjoy the delicious yogurt! The jars are perfect as votive holders. Hello Mary!
I am loving this tutorial! This is something I would do. I love all the different flower choices from Amazon if needed. I do press flowers so perhaps I can make one vase with my flowers.
Thank you for the beautiful inspiration!
Thank you Nancy! 🌸 Wishing you a wonderful week ahead. 💗
Mary, your pressed flower vases are lovely. How fun to create your own. A wonderful tutorial on how to create these pretty floral vases, so perfect for Mother’s Day.
Oh wow! That’s so creative and gorgeous, pinned! Thank you, love all the supplies linked here with the idea.
Hi Mary ~ such a simple craft that looks way harder to do. I think it would be beautiful for either a bridal or a baby shower. And I love the idea of recycling the Oui yogurt containers. One would never know! Keeping this idea for sure. Thanks ! Hugs, Dorinda
This is such a lovely and creative DIY — turning pressed flowers into a vase gives simple blooms a lasting, personal touch. The flower-care tips are super helpful, too.
I would like to have my friends over for a craft day to make these beautiful vases and votives. My question is: what is the best way to clean them after they are finished and sealed? How well do they stand up to gentle hand washing? Thanks!
Hi Margaret, that sounds like fun! Mod Podge makes a Dishwasher Safe version that would be more durable in the long run. I think I would still gently handwash the interior and only lightly wipe down the exterior with a damp cloth. :)
