Spaghetti….sometimes no meat ( my fav) most times meat sauce to keep hubby happy, bread and a salad. Some weeks it’s homemade sourdough bread or an easy home baked artisan bread. Being retired makes cooking and baking easier! I love the cookbook!

One of my favorites is a simple Italian soup with browned individual ribs, quality stock, tomatoes, white beans, carrots, celery and a heel of parmesan with all the necessary spices. It can simmer for much of the day and served with thick slabs of hearty bread it just says…Yum!

We enjoy baked salmon with drizzle of lemon butter sauce before serving, my hubs likes baked potatoes, while I like sweet potatoes. Side would be with roasted cauliflower and broccoli. All in the oven!! Reading this blog just made my mouth water. The pictures put me at the table ready to eat! (Fingers crossed for the win.)

  24. July 28, 2025 at 10:38 am

Mary, these all look delicious. Makes me dream of cooking once again, but then I’d need to start hosting dinner parties again. Doubt I have it in me to do it all. Monnie and I made a great team. I could always depend on “my chef” to create delicious meals, beautifully presented. I was in charge of setting the table. I truly miss those days. Good luck to one of your readers. This looks to be a great resource.

WOW! What a fabulous cookbook – those pics are scrumptuous looking! YUM!! The one I actually gasped about was the Caprese grilled cheese sandwich. Never thought of doing that – though it is a lot like a fav pizza – why not make it a hand held crunchy sammie? She is an amazing recipe provider. I am so inspired. Thank you, Mary!

Me again. I didn’t tell you what one of my weekend fav dinners is. I’d say lemon butter garlic shrimp angel hair with peas and carrots and tomato (in mine I like mushrooms but hubs won’t eat them) – less than 20 minutes from start to finish. It’s my own recipe so I can’t link it from somewhere else.

One of my favorite and most versatile is chicken enchiladas. I make a vegetarian option with black beans, corn and chiles for my daughter and with chicken for the rest of the family. I can go with red sauce or verde or both. Leftover filling can be frozen and used to quickly put together a hot, homemade meal.

Hi Mary ~ What an interesting cookbook this looks to be. Right up my alley. My favorite go-to weeknight meal is what I call “American Chop Suey”. I know other people call it different things. It is ground beef broken up and browned with an onion and some garlic in a bit of olive oil, drained if needed then add a jar of Rao’s Marinara Sauce and keep warm. Cook in pasta pot a pound of short pasta of your liking, we like cavatappi, to al dente, drain back in the pot then add the meat and sauce. Serve with Parmesan cheese and bread or a green salad. Leftovers are awesome. Hugs, Dorinda

This looks like such a beautiful and useful book! Mouth watering! One of my husband’s and my favorite meals is a stir fry. I pick a protein and what ever vegetables are lingering in the fridge. Always healthy and I change it up a bit with the seasonings!

    July 28, 2025 at 10:26 pm

Yes, Chicken Parmesan. However, as life is short, let’s make and eat some of those yummy deserts FIRST.
Question, Mary, I love those pannicle hydrangeas but cannot seem to find them in Southern California. Any suggestions?

    • July 29, 2025 at 9:48 am

Hi Adrienne, Panicle hydrangeas are hardy in USDA zones 3 to 8, with some varieties, like ‘Limelight’, tolerating zone 9 in the shade. Maybe your climate is too warm? If not, you can find them online at Proven Winners. 🌸 Thank you for your visit!

Well I must be so old to figure out how to respond to the ‘cookbook giveaway’ – ha – hopefully this will enter me into it, hope so?! Anyway, my favorite dinner would be an EASY – very simple recipe (nothing too fancy) to bake in the oven – maybe something with chicken? I asked my husband if he would like the ‘Crispy Chicken Parmesan’ and he was ‘iffy’ but I think I would try that one first – and then look for a dessert to try. I absolutely love looking at your site and all the great decorating ideas, especially holidays – very neat things to try to copy – you are very talented and thank you for everything!

Our favorite easy hot night dinner is a chef’s salad. We use chicken, ham and Swiss cheese. And then whatever lettuces that I have and all the vegetables that are around. Dressing is whatever moves me that day. One that goes on often is an Italian vinaigrette with Parmesan. Know that the cookbook would be a great addition to my cooking repertoire……
