Happy Sunday, friends!

I’m sharing a February Weekend Waterview from Lake Norman.

Steam fog in winter, Lake Norman ©homeiswheretheboatis.net

Our weather has been all over the map this month—steam-fog mornings,

snow, ice, and finally some welcome sunshine peeking through.

One morning I spotted a Red-shouldered Hawk perched proudly on our dock post,

made even more striking against the soft, foggy backdrop.

He was feeling especially bold and let me get surprisingly close for photos.

We have Red-shouldered Hawks year-round, but they’re much easier to spot in winter before the trees leaf out.

Eventually I edged a little too close for his comfort and off he flew toward the trees.

We had two back-to-back weekends of snow and ice.

I always get excited about snow since it’s such a rare treat occurrence . . .

ice, on the other hand, we could happily do without!

This storm delivered about nine inches of snow—our first real snowfall in four years, thanks to Winter Storm Gianna.

Lola and Sophie were thrilled once we had a couple of days of melt and could safely venture out to explore the winter wonderland.

We’ve also been treated to some beautiful sunsets lately . . .

Along with a few wonderfully moody skies.

We’re on a warming trend this week and looking forward to some much-needed rain. 🤞🌧️

Beautiful photos to see this morning ! I really like the hawk taking flight. Your temps for Friday look wonderful….we have been living in the “ice age” near Buffalo, NY 🥶

What lovely photos. Looks cold to me, even for Lola and Sophie, who are wearing darling sweaters. That hawk! Amazing to see such beautiful creatures. I am thankful for my eyes and many more things, including your posts. What a wonderful way to start and end your days.

What stunning pictures. You really caught that hawk perfectly, wow! And the foggy pic of the dock could be a poster. It is SO serene. Just gorgeous, Mary. Hope you had a nice weekend.

Mary your photos are so pretty…thanks for sharing. We have had unseasonably cold weather here in Florida but I believe we are finally on our way to ‘normal’ temps this week. I have to chuckle as the snow birds who come down here are walking around in sleeve-less T-shirts or driving in rented convertibles with the top down…. while we locals are bundled up like Eskimos. LOL. Love the hawk photos. I love watching them. Their body language says so much doesn’t it? Enjoy your snow view….it is so pretty on your lake.

The red hawk is gorgeous! Lola and Sophie are so cute in their sweaters. Without the sweaters, those babies would blend into the snow. They are adorable! We are getting rain which we needed as well. We’ll send it your way by the end of the afternoon. Loved all the photos. Snow is so much better than ice! Melts quickly and you’re able to make snowmen! Enjoy your day! Clara❤️

Thank you Mary for sharing your part of the world. Our snow (12”) is finally melting, and our chickens are sooo happy to be outside and in the grassy areas . I can not wait for Spring and my flowers 🌺

Mary, we enjoyed seeing your water views! Butch said the photos of the red-shouldered hawk were superb and should be in a field guide! Wow the snowy scenes were beautiful, we didn’t receive any. Lola and Sophie are so cute in their warm sweaters and the sunsets over the lake are just stunning! Happy new week 🥰

My goodness, you’ve captured the beauty of your scenery so well with your amazing photographs. I know ice storms are terribly destructive, but the tree branches look stunning with their sparkling ice covering. Thank you for this post filled with pictures of natural wonders. So restorative to view.

Hi Mary, I have never been to Lake Norman but have heard how gorgeous it is! I have a second cousin named Richard Wilson, who has passed, but sold a lot of real estate there from what I understand. Beautiful pictures in this post! We used to have a Bichon named Pup-corn. They are smart.

Beautiful pictures….the fog, snow, sunsets, pups and great pics of the hawk! I think you’ve gotten more snow than we have in northern ID!

I loved your pictures of the hawk, Mary. Maybe I’ve told you that I have a journal of all the hawk visits I’ve had in my little backyard since Rich passed away. Lola and Sophie look so adorable in their cozy sweaters. We finally had some much needed rain, and I hope you get some. Have a great week❤️

Beautiful place to live. Looks very peaceful. Love all your decorating ideas.

What gorgeous photos! The hawk was such a treat. A handsome one!
But Lola and Sophie were the real showstoppers for me. What sweet girls. The snow must have been a bit of a surprise for them. And they must have disappeared in 9 inches of the white stuff.
It’s always a pleasure to see your lake! Thanks for sharing, and enjoy the warm-up!

Amazing photos, truly lovely. All we have had in the south coast of England is masses of rain.
