Garden Style at the Table

I’m enjoying a little Garden Style,

dining at a table for two~

Garden Style tabletop inspiration blossomed from a pair of salad plates, picked fresh from the aisles of HomeGoods recently~

And Annabelle Hydrangea blossomed from my Mother-in-Law’s garden~ along with Lacecap Hydrangea, past its peak, and a little shabby~ providing a pop of color and soft, lacy texture.

My Garden Style leans toward “cottage”. . . a style is that relaxed, colorful, fun, and also leans towards shabby~

With less regard for rules and more about what you love~

 My preferred method of tablescaping!

At the table, flowers, dragonflies,

birds & bees are as welcome

as they are in the garden~

My starting point or foundation for a table

usually begins with a quilt. . .

. . . a multi-tasker for me~ that works on a bed, is perfect for a picnic, can be thrown in the washer, and best of all. . .

no ironing required :)

An urn accented with birds and a vase that is a perennial favorite, is lined with plastic and filled with wet floral foam~ last used at the table with Grape Expectations.

Dining with butterflies goes hand in hand with

my Garden Style~

And like the birds, my Nesting Instincts

are fine-tuned~

Privet House Toile acrylic glasses from Target fluttered into my cart recently. . .

. . .in hopes of sipping nectar from flowers at the table.

without apology or explanation.  Here is one spot

This one might be one of my favorites. I love the quilt, and I love the arrangement and shabby chic accessories. I love anything shabby cottage….I have yet to tire of that look. Such a sweet table, Mary. I do think that the brown chargers make the other earth tones pop. Stunning!!! :D

I might sit down at this table and never leave!! I love it all so much! You have the magic touch of putting things together and creating a lovely setting. Hugs, Linda

Mary, love the quote by “me”! I totally agree! This table is wonderfully earthy with its brown undertones, and that quilt perfect to set the stage. The new plates are charming with their built in flatware. I’ve not allowed myself to visit HG, TJ, or Marshall recently. Those guys get me into dish trouble. LOL I definitely would have been tempted to bring these salad plates home. The hydrangea arrangement is gorgeous. I love it when ones flowers go from garden to table.
Have a good week. ~ sarah

Belle foto specialmente con le casette per gli uccellini!!

Well, the quilt that launched this table is just beautiful! Love the embroidered details. This table certainly feels earthy to me, and with your straight from nature elements, I’m not surprised. My favorite photos are the ones with a glimpse of lake in the background–so relaxing. Very pretty, Mary, and I like your NO RULES style!

Oh, Mary, Mary, Mary….what can I say I haven’t said before…? Each table is unique. Breathtaking. Awe inspiring. You have a unique talent for bringing so many different elements together and making them into a pleasing cohesive whole…

Lovin’ the soft colors in your pretty quilt Mary! You mean to tell me there are ‘rules’ for tablesetting??? Huh. Hope you’re having a great June, it’s actually rather chilly here today:@)

As I have said many times…I never tire of seeing that beautiful lake in the background with the most gorgeous table in the forefront….Such a romantic and serene table for two…I love the plates …they just look terrific with the magnificent display of hydrangeas….I can just imagine sitting at the table watching the sun set over the water…! Life is good!

  12. June 4, 2012 at 9:43 pm

I spend more time ironing table linens than I care to think about! Maybe I should invest in a lot more quilts!!!!! Those Home Goods salad plates are really terrific! I need to get there more often to see the new items that come in before they disappear from the shelves. That 25-minute drive is certainly worth the bargains and the beauty!!! This is a beautiful table, and I love your quote at the end. Indeed!!!

  13. June 4, 2012 at 9:48 pm

Oh how I love this post Mary! Gorgeous, sweet, cottage wonderful!

  14. June 4, 2012 at 10:46 pm

Alas, I passed up those plates at my HG as there were too few. You did a fabulous job with just two!

Beautiful! Those flowers are gorgeous! What a wonderful mix! I’m always drawn to birdhouses as accents; yours are lovely, Mary. Another beautiful setting! ~Zuni

One of the things that I love about your tables is that they always tell a little story. I love the way you used the dishes with the added touches like the bird houses, nests, and watering can. I also just plain love it when you use the quilt as the tablecloth. That’s sort of your signature in my mind, and it is just so pretty.

  20. June 6, 2012 at 7:45 am

I will remember your quote and I like and agree with what you said. Your style is always refreshing, delightful and makes me smile and warms my heart at the same time. We have many things in common and I just know we would be great friends if distance wasn’t an issue.

Thanks for the suggestion about joining Kathleen’s party. I will try but will be traveling so it may not work out.

  21. June 6, 2012 at 7:31 pm

Love your garden theme, Mary! The birdhouse, the quilt , those darling dishes all go perfectly in your outdoor setting. I’ve been in love with the Napoleon flatware for quite some time now.

Mary, your quote will be my favorite foodie quote of the week! “At one’s table, a person may be one’s own artist without apology or explanation.” Love your garden theme this week!

  23. June 6, 2012 at 8:11 pm

Mary, Your idea of using quilts instead of tablecloths is genius! I’m wishing I hadn’t gotten rid of the old quilts my mom had…but they were “everyday” quilts and not all that pretty. Yours are gorgeous! I really like your garden theme, especially the bird houses and twig place mats.

  24. June 6, 2012 at 8:52 pm

I don’t know why but I like to look at a table and see which element is the difference maker. As pretty and interesting as everything on this table is, I think it’s the quilt that pulls it all together. Your lakeside setting is always a perfect backdrop too. I love your quotes too!

Mary, there is nothing about this table I don’t love. But I think best of all, my favorite, is your quote! Your birdhouses and the dishes are perfect companions! Of course the flowers and the flowers, quilt, napkins, glasses are all just the perfect pieces! have a great week, xo marlis

  26. June 6, 2012 at 9:48 pm

Hi Mary, I love your setting and the idea of using quilts outdoors. The glasses from Privet House are so pretty. Privet House is in the next town to me, and I have never been–can you believe it? Now that they have the line at Target I am more interested! All the bird and flower accents are perfect together. You are an artist! I am coming back to visit your recent posts that I have missed due to overwhelming family obligations and general hoopla around here! Linda

  28. June 7, 2012 at 7:00 am

Mary, your garden tablescape is just gorgeous!!! Your bird houses are stunning. I was surprised to see those beautiful glasses are from Target. Love them!!!

  29. June 7, 2012 at 9:50 am

OK, I will shamefully admit it: I am coveting these plates!!!!!!!!!!!!!! I haven’t seen them and they are fabulous!!! The whole table is gorgeous, every detail perfect. Love your watering can and the napkins are great. XO, Pinky PS, I wonder how many quilts you own!!!!!!!!!!:):)

  30. June 7, 2012 at 9:56 am

Also, where are the scalloped plates from and did you actually paint the flower onto the handle of the birdhouse to match the quilt???? Your attention to detail is amazing.

  31. June 7, 2012 at 10:04 am

Don’t you just love it when things hop into your cart? I just adore your garden plates. That one with the chair is just incredible. Wouldn’t you love to be able to find a whole set of those. Your quilt is so pretty and such a perfect backdrop. Of course, it is all set off so perfectly with the flowers – absolutely spectacular!

  32. June 7, 2012 at 10:11 am

Just got to love that “Home Goods” store!!
Love, love every single thing about the table.
I specially love the nature; birds, butterflies and such.

My goodness, I go away for a couple of days and I feel like I’ve missed an extraordinary post by you! Everything is beautiful. I love the earthy tones and and the gathering of flowers from your garden. Your table is perfect and I love and agree with your “me” quote. The table speaks of nature and relaxation and enjoyment. Beautiful!

  34. June 7, 2012 at 9:04 pm

Darling plates! The quilt is lovely, and yeah for the no ironing!
    You put everything together beautifully!

  35. June 8, 2012 at 8:05 am

As usual- stunning table. Thoughtfully put together with great finess! Love the bouquet.

  36. June 9, 2012 at 7:58 am

I collect birdhouses so you had me when I saw two on your table. I hope you were able to get more than two of those plates. They are terrific. About quilts…I have about a dozen from my grandmother. Some are very old and I’ve learned that washing them is not a good idea because they are quite fragile.

    • June 9, 2012 at 5:21 pm

Hi Linda~ I have two old family quilts that are lovingly hand stitched and fragile that I don’t dare launder! My new machine stitched ones wash great :)

  37. June 9, 2012 at 11:23 am

Your table is so pretty, I just love everything about it – from the dishes, to the linens, to the flowers, to the decor!

  38. June 9, 2012 at 7:46 pm

I just love how you use these beautiful quilts. Your flowers are just so dainty and I love the peek of the lake in the background. What a lovely setting. Dianne
