I’m at the table with Mikasa Garden Berry Dinnerware,
serving up a fruit-filled table and centerpiece!
Leafy stems of colorful berries branch off along the colorful border of the Garden Berry dinnerware. In addition to being a berry-producer :) it’s crafted of bone china and microwave and dishwasher safe.
When I first saw these dishes, I kept looking at them trying to decide if the color of the border was more yellow or more green. I finally decided the color was Golden Delicious Apple!
Apples, berries and grapes cascade and fill a tiered server/sometimes-cupcake-stand, previously used at the table for Easter Greetingsand Hatching Peeps. I like to use real flowers, fruits or veggies at the table whenever possible, and when your centerpiece is edible it’s also economical!
We had several days with teaser temperatures in the 60s and even though it’s about a month too early to do much planting for our freeze date here in North Carolina, garden centers are starting to fill with tempting flowers and plants.
I found strawberry plants at Lowe’s, the first garden berries and fruit to ripen in the spring, with plans to transplant them in a strawberry pot later this week. A spring frost generally will not harm new strawberry plants here in NC, covering them to protect the blossoms if the temperatures dip back below freezing.
I knew that keeping plants continuously watered and wet will give them protection from freezing temperatures, but I just learned that it was due to the fact that the change of water to ice on the plants, actually releases heat. Apparently I was absent that day in biology, thanks NSCU Co-op Extension Service :) You can read more about planting strawberries in your home garden from them, here.
I went berry picking at the produce department for my fresh and edible centerpiece for the table. Grapes and apples add some contrasting purple and green color.
Salad savoy lettuce with its frilly leaves add some texture and a colorful foundation for blackberries in the stand. I have to confess I’ve never eaten salad savoy lettuce, using only for serving food or garnishing platters.
Developed in California in the 80s, salad savoy is a cross between kale and cabbage, so in addition to being pretty it’s no doubt also nutritious. It’s sold by weight, so it’s usually less than a dollar a head at the grocery store.
I’m counting down to spring and gardening season!
Since I was photographing and playing with dishes rather than dining at this table, I wasn’t afraid of a rusty garden tool or mossy plate for a little garden fun with Mikasa Garden Berry. . .

Love these plates and your chargers really make them even prettier. It was 87 here yesterday. I’m not quite ready for that just yet. Would have loved more 70s before we headed into the 80s. Our strawberries have bloomed and the berries are on their way. Blueberries and boysenberries are right behind them. Tomatoes are already up and the broccoli is going like wild fire. Love gardening and those dishes.
Your displays are always gorgeous and creative. I enjoy them so much.
Mary,
Seriously….you astound me!! You keep coming up with the most gorgeous vignettes I have ever seen! Those fruit centerpieces are to die for!!

WOW!! This is probably the most beautiful table I have seen…maybe it’s due to the fact that I am soooo ready for Spring. The setting is so bright and cheery. Love, love the dishes & stem ware. I look forward everyday to your post. Thanks ever so for making my day! It’s going to be 72 here today…can’t wait!
Gorgeous! Really love the garden berry dishes! The weather has been unseasonably warm in Floride. Just makes you want to get out and work in the garden. Spring is finally here!
You have invented a new color Mary, Golden Delicious is the perfect description of the color on these garden fresh plates! Thank you so much for all the garden tips, I knew about watering plants when the temps drop, but never could figure that out :) Your edible centerpiece is so perfect for the dinnerware and I love all the garden elements you’ve planted in your tablescape! Have a great week, we are in the high sunny 70s today, but no planting until mid April even though it’s so tempting~

I am starving right now; on my way to breakfast at a neighbors in a few mins. so this has me salivating!!!! I LOVE the dishes, they are so pretty for Spring and Summer! You always have the perfect quilt to use as a tablecover. Of course your styling is perfection. I really enjoyed this post. Have a beautiful day!!!
Very sweet combos, luscious pics and all so Easter fresh too! I always thought our weather was so similar, but ice storms and late frosts prove me wrong. I have totally missed spring at home, but last night we had dinner theater at the beach cafe with dolphins leaping in a lake flat sea at sunset, not a bad trade off… off to snitch your pics!
Thank you Mary, an absolute delight! I have never seen or heard of the savory salad lettuce, but will look for it, the hunt will be fun! Thank you again for the smiles you bring and for warming my heart!
The perfect dinnerware for Spring…love how you described the color of the border…golden delicious…wonderful!…I always look forward to your “unexpected”…the garden tool on the plate, the bulb and moss….gorgeous centerpiece and table set with nothing less than perfection…
That’s a fruity feast there- I love how it looks so enticing! I needed some grapes for my vignette I just created! I always pass fancy looking lettuce that I don’t know anything about but it certainly does make a wonderful garnishment! The dishes are beautiful- I may just have to check those babies out!
Thank you for sharing your beautiful spring tablescape with the fruit platter. I love golden delicious apples and your dinnerware. Our area got up to 76 degrees today. Happy St. Patrick’s Day to you!!
Those are lovely dishes, and I love the purple glassware you put with them. Picks up the berry color in the plates. Lovely tablescape. I, too, am sooooo ready for spring!!
Oh my gosh, Mary, you’ve done it again, with showcasing those pretty dishes! I love your colorful and edible tiered centerpiec and the lavender and green quilt makes for such a lovely tablecloth. I’m such a berry lover and those pretty Mikasa dishes just had me sighing.
In Love with everything about this Tablescape. Dinnerware is fab! Purple stems are beautiful with the fresh and colorful Fruits and berries. The Centerpiece is creative and the jewel on the table center. So very beautiful Mary
This makes me excited for spring! My daffodils are up and the pansies. Hoping for a wet spring because that makes our strawberries so much better. We have had such a warm winter that my rosemary didn’t even freeze this year. That has never happened!
The plates are lovely and the fruit is too! Yummy table! Of course I am most in love with the purple goblets – of course!!
I recently bought a 3-tier wire server just because of all the creative ways in which I saw you use yours. This is fabulous! The fruit in this china is so delicate looking. What a pretty pattern! As always, Mary, you inspire me!
