Are you ready for Thanksgiving? I have an easy and casual centerpiece that you can put together for your table at the last-minute with items from the grocery store!
I assembled a harvest centerpiece for Thanksgiving using a rustic wooden box / caddy that I had. You can use any kind of wooden box, crate, basket or tray to build your centerpiece. You can find some inspiration for creating easy tray centerpieces, here.
I started with some kale which is affordable at 99 cents for a large bunch. Kale makes a great filler to soften and tuck in around edges of your container and provide a base for your arrangement.
Start with some veggies, mini pumpkins and/or gourds and flowers that you can harvest from the grocery store.
I placed water in jars (or you can use glasses) to add some $3 mums from the grocery store in the arrangement.
Artichokes provide some texture and green color to pair with gourds and mini pumpkins.
Our maple tree peaked this past week. I’ve been saving leaves in a zip top bag in the refrigerator to preserve their color and keep them fresh for Thanksgiving.
The leaves will stay fresh a week or longer in sealed bag in the refrigerator.
You can use squash, pomegranates, apples, pears, persimmons or whatever says “harvest” to you, along with the flowers of your choice to build your centerpiece.
If you’re looking for more inspiration your Thanksgiving table, you can find a quick and easy centerpiece with a natural leaf and pumpkin runner, here.
Wishing you a Safe and Happy Thanksgiving with all the turkey you can gobble!

Love the center piece! Great idea! I don’t know what I am going to make for a center piece yet , but you have given me some ideas. Today starts baking day. Loving it!🦃🦃🦃🤗😎🌴
Hi Mary, Kale is such a great idea to use as filler! My maple dropped all its beautiful leaves at once yesterday due to a snowfall. They are all on the ground and I think I will gather a stack to keep in the fridge as you suggest. I had no idea they would keep well like that. My turkey bowl centerpiece will be rejuvenated with kale and fresh leaves on Thanksgiving morning! Thanks for the tips. Your wooden crate centerpiece is perfect for harvest time! Linda
Mary – love your centerpiece idea for Thanksgiving! I also love that you showed the step by step process – that not only omitted some of the guesswork, it made it look so easy! Thank you for sharing…..Happy Thanksgiving!
I just might make this one, Mary!! I have the wooden caddy to do it & for the first time in 29 years, I NOT hosting or cooking T’day!!!!! I’ll just carry this over to my DD’s……along with food, of course.
It is a lovely idea, as all your suggestions are. Sorry I’ve missed commenting on so many lately. I was under the weather.
Your magical hands have done it again, Mary! I love when you share easy ideas like these. Happy Thanksgiving week to you. I know you’ll be missing your dear MIL, but I’m sure she’ll be with you in spirit and smiling down on you. I’m leaving this morning to be with my 87 year old mom and my sis.
This is the perfect centerpiece Mary, there is nothing prettier in my opinion than a table loaded with fresh fruits, vegetables and flowers…plus you can eat it after the feast! Have a wonderful week!

Thank-you for this tutorial on the construction of a splendid centerpiece. The step by step photos make it look attainable for the craft challenged(me)! I also appreciate the clever way to keep the colored leaves fresh, I’ve never heard this before. Our leaves are somewhat damaged by the gypsy moth caterpillars- yuck! Again, thank-you for these beautiful posts all Fall with the gorgeous photos and ideas. The Happiest of Thanksgivings to YOU!
Your Maple Tree is glorious and your suggestion for saving the leaves a new idea for me, thank you. Love your centerpiece. I used some of the same items in a silver bowl on my dining room table last year but love your arrangement in the wooden caddy. I have a wooden basket for my garden tools but now think it should be elevated to centerpiece status. Thanks again for sharing your creative ideas, you help to make the world around us more beautiful.
Oh Mary, everything froze here finally. I mean 20 degrees froze, so my plans for a garden centerpiece are over. But, I love this. I’m going to miss your plaid tablecloth. I love the way you have used it so many different ways over the months. Grins, have a Happy Thanksgiving. Sandi
YOU ARE SO VERY CLEVER!!! That’s going to work for me this year!! I purchased an oriental rug runner that I’m using down the center of our table…that crate is just right! THANK YOU!! franki
I have a very rustic and old tool box that I keep on my potting table. Don’t need a centerpiece this week, but I’m saving this idea. Love the addition of kale.
Happy Thanksgiving!
I love your centerpieces, which is no surprise, your tables always wow me! I really enjoy your centerpiece in the tool box, I love incorporating veggies into centerpieces. Happy Thanksgiving!
