Thanksgiving Table with Assorted Tom Turkeys and Fantail Napkin Fold

Thanksgiving is two weeks away and in anticipation, I pulled out the my favorite Tom Turkeys!

With the countdown to turkey day underway, I’m at the table as part of a Thanksgiving Tablescape Blog Hop this week! You can find table inspiration from 20 bloggers for your Thanksgiving feast at the bottom of this post.

I pulled out an assortment of turkey plates for this table. Have a seat next to your favorite ‘Tom’!

I don’t have a complete set of any turkey pattern, I like to pick up one or two dinner plates here or there when I run across them. Autumn Monarch by Johnson Brothers Turkey plates, are rimmed with a decorative fruit and vegetable border and served up on wood chargers.

You can see them at an alfresco Thanksgiving table, here.

I love brown transferware and Spode Celebration Thanksgiving Turkey is a favorite gobbler! I added two dinner plates to add to my “rafter” of turkeys when I found them strutting their stuff at Tuesday Morning several years ago.

A Victorian English Pottery Thanksgiving Turkey has a blue border and can be seen at the table, here, giving thanks with warm plaid layers and pumpkins.

Royal Stafford Turkey plates have a touch of blue with fruit, flowers and wheat along the border of the plates.

You can see them at a Thanksgiving Table With a Touch of Blue, here.

The Victorian English Pottery Turkey by Edward Challinor has pretty seasonal fall border of acorn and oak leaves.

You can see them layered at the table for patriotic Thanksgiving, here.

And last but not least, Queen’s by Churchill ‘Majestic Beauty’ turkey dinner plates were found for $4.99 each, about the same price as a Pumpkin Spice Latte.

And a price that may have trading your Starbucks addiction for a dish addiction instead. ;)

When I set this table on the porch to photograph this table last week, it was a comfortable 70 degrees. The mercury took a nose dive this past weekend with our first freeze and highs in the 40s, but our November weather is typically mild in North Carolina. We’ve spent many Thanksgivings eating turkey on my mother-in-law’s screened porch enjoying the warm sunshine with temps ranging from the 60s to 70s.

A proud Tom turkey provides a centerpiece for the table.

He’s leading a parade of maple leaves, Indian corn, mini pumpkins, bittersweet vine and nuts, down the center of the table for a casual and natural table runner.  Mercury glass votives add a little sparkle and soft glow.

Our Thanksgiving feast is served buffet style on the kitchen island so we don’t have to leave room on the table for platters of food.

Napkins are folded to mimic a turkey fantail and placed in a burnished copper napkin ring. You can find the easy tutorial and how to create your turkey fantail napkins, here.

I just LOVE your idea of collecting turkey plates that don’t match!!! I hope you don’t mind if I copy you – imitation is the sincerest form of flattery, you know! I’m racing out ( in a very cold rain) to Homegoods and Tuesday Morning today to see what I can find. Thanks for a super idea for a special day that comes only once a year.

Mary, each plate makes me linger admiring their details. Your tablescape is lovely with so many beautiful touches. Those scalloped wooden chargers please the eye. The warmth the plaid tablecloth adds compliments the natural runner and focuses on the star Tom Turkey centerpiece. Love your ceramic turkey!
    Your napkin fold is awesome!
I actually can remember as a child my grandmother having a Tom Turkey that she raised for our Thanksgiving meal. The grandchildren saw the process which I won’t go into but I still vividly remember it.
Wishing you a wonderful Thanksgiving with your family.

Mary, I love your collection of “Toms” at your Thanksgiving table and your tureen is so beautiful and makes the perfect centerpiece. Thank your sharing your talent and ideas that are so “doable”…I’m going to copy your table runner and napkin fold for our table this year. Happy Thanksgiving!

I’m in love with the plums and rich colors in your plaid throw tablecloth and turkey tureen! Love the mix and match of your turkey plates. You’ve given me a great idea for our extended family gathering of 24. I’m on a mission to collect turkey plates for next year!

Mary, your turkey plate collection is amazing. The idea of mismatched plates suits my fancy, and adds so much interest and whimsy to a table. Each one has its own fun personality! The organic table runner being led by your handsome Tom Turkey is perfect to top the plaid tablecloth. The napkin fold adds a finishing touch to your beautiful tablescape. It is pouring rain this morning with temps in the 40’s. It makes me want to start my Christmas decorating, but I will wait until after Thanksgiving. It is always a pleasure to blog hop with you❤️

So many beautiful “Toms”! Just love the idea of the various plates, they are each so beautiful and make a wonderful collection all together! You are so talented with everything you put together for your tables! Thank you so much for sharing your ideas and all the gorgeous photos!

Hi Mary! ‘m glad that I, like you, have a plate addiction rather than a Starbucks one!! It’s hard to pick a favorite Tom Turkey out of your collection, Mary, for they’re all beautiful. Coming to your blog is always a wonderful way to start my day. xx

I love your Thanksgiving parade of plates! Your idea of collecting various plates to make your own unique set is brilliant and I too will follow your lead. I purchased my first plate at T J Maxx for $4.99 after your post last year, it is called, “Harvest”, by The Victorian English Pottery Est. 1819 by Edward Challinor. I love it. Your large Tom centerpiece is beautiful. I have a much smaller “young Tom”, lol, gravy boat which I have on display as well. I like to start November 1st through Thanksgiving weekend to display Thanksgiving items as I feel it is a holiday that is getting eclipsed more and more. Love the fan tail napkins, did those too! Hehe. I try to copy most of your excellent ideas! Thank you Mary for so much inspiration! ♥️🦃♥️

This is why I love to blog hop with you Mary….your creative genius! Using different turkey plates makes your table unique and unexpected. I love the plaid, so perfect for Fall and Thanksgiving…and the gourds and pumpkins down tthe center say Pilgrim Thanksgiving. I love your large Tom Turkey centerpiece, he is so colorful and draws all your other pieces together. Another amazing tablescape my friend. Lets hope the weather continues to co-operate for more screened porch dinners.

What a great collection of Tom Turkeys you have, Mary! I think I’d love to claim the seat with the Royal Stafford blues, but any will do just as well, just as fine. And I’ll take a Keurig cuppa any day over Starbucks to pour more money into my dish fetish, thank you very much! Your centerpiece flows nicely down the table, and those chargers are a nice shape. I always look forward to seeing your creative spin on tables and more, love your company.
Our freeze happened over the weekend too – enough crunch to make raking leaves all afternoon yesterday much easier than the wet muck of the days prior and those to come today and tomorrow. Have a great week.

  14. November 12, 2018 at 11:50 am

Yes, Kari is on target! You creative genius and unique way of putting it all together always offers a table filled with exquisite details. It doesn’t get any better than dining at one of Mary’s tables any season of the year. Like you, though, I savor this season. Christmas will be here soon, but the warm earth tones of autumn make my heart sing. Your Toms are each one handsome guys. I’ve but one turkey plate, picked up at an antique market with the thought that I would add others as I found them. None others have waddled my way, but I’m still on a turkey hunt.
Cold and wet here with our first freeze predicted for tonight. Early for us!

  24. November 12, 2018 at 6:53 pm

Your big proud fat Tom Turkey is definitely ruling the roost on this table Mary! My favorite part of your tablescape is the mix match of turkey plates, that truly says family and home…plus isn’t it fun to have several patterns for the same holiday! Love the plaid cloth and the table runner of Indian corn, pumpkins and leaves. With Thanksgiving still 10 days away, I hope better weather returns! Happy hopping!

Wow Mary, your turkey plates are so pretty. I am loving that big Tom turkey. Your centerpiece is perfect for giving thanks with pumpkins, gourds and corn. Wonderful details to take in. The plaid warms my heart. Always a pleasure to take in the beauty you create.

  26. November 12, 2018 at 9:35 pm

Mary, I absolutely love your mix and match turkey plate concept — genius! That allows have both old and new at the same table or stacked for a buffet. Every time I thought I spotted my absolute favorite plate, you shared another to-die-for dish! Whatever is a plate addict to do? Your turkey cookie jar was a lucky find. It resembles my Fitz and Floyd turkey tureen that sits out year-round on the French bakers rack.

  27. November 12, 2018 at 10:52 pm

Quite the parade of Turkeys!! You some how took one of nature’s ugliest animals and made a beautiful table with them!! I love how your Indian corn picks up the colors in your plaid tablecloth so well. Your table is the essence of Thanksgiving! I am thankful that you share your wonderful talents with us, have a wonderful Thanksgiving, Mary!!

  28. November 12, 2018 at 11:29 pm

It would be hard for me to pick a favorite! But I would be strutting like a proud Tom Turkey if I was at this wonderful table!!!!! Have a beautiful week. We are freezing here in Pa. too. What happened to Fall???

  29. November 13, 2018 at 9:02 am

Mary, I thought I had a bunch of turkeys, but you have to have the biggest collection. All your turkey plates are each special and add that feeling of collecting to the table. The fan tail napkin gold is a great idea. Beautiful and bountiful tablescape.

  30. November 13, 2018 at 9:49 am

Beautiful, Mary!! Love all the touches, especially your tail fan fold napkins!

  31. November 13, 2018 at 10:34 am

Mary, I think you have captured Thanksgiving perfectly in your tablescape. The turkey centrepiece is wonderful, and I love that you have created a runner with all the natural elements of fall. Love the touches of gold and amber. You really have created a cozy, festive table that I would love to be seated at!

  32. November 13, 2018 at 11:02 am

Wow Mary this is fabulous! I admire all of the different Turkey patterned dishes you have. Your center arrangement is wonderful and I love your Tom Turkey! I used your fan napkin tutorial for my table and it’s the perfect touch! I would love to celebrate Thanksgiving in the 60-70’s! We just got about 8 inches of snow- can’t believe it!! I think it will be all melted soon though.

Always a fabulous table at Mary’s place! My turkey plates went missing this year! I thought maybe I had given them to my daughter since we are usually out of town for Thanksgiving, but she didn’t have them. I resorted to my 17 green plates with embossed turkeys for the big family dinner which we had early, but I am still perplexed as to where the turkey ones went. I love the idea of collecting different ones – makes the table more fun.
I love the turkey tail napkin fold too. Fun Blog Hop!
