Mix up a Mardi Gras-Rita in celebration National Margarita Day and Mardi Gras. Additionally you find a round-up of quick and easy recipes to celebrate Mardi Gras and a taste of The Big Easy.

Mardi Gras or “Fat Tuesday,” is the last day of the Carnival season and falls the day before Ash Wednesday, the first day of Lent. This year Mardi Gras falls on February 25th. With National Margarita Day on February 22nd, a Mardi Gras-Rita is the perfect mashup and cocktail to celebrate both!

For the three colors of Mardi Gras, there are three frozen layers of flavor: green representing faith and the traditional lime flavor; gold for power and mango flavor; and purple for justice and mixed berry blended with pomegranate juice.

For the traditional lime flavor, follow your favorite recipe or use the one on the back of the Bicardi Margarita Mixer can, adding tequila and triple sec or Grand Marnier. For the gold layer and mango flavor, I used Pioneer Woman’s recipe. For the purple layer or pomegranate flavor, I followed Bobby Flay’s recipe and added some frozen mixed berries for a little lagniappe :) and deeper color.
Mix up your flavors ahead and store in the freezer until ready to layer and serve.

Fat Tuesday for me means the last day for 40 that I don’t eat sweets!! This weekend, it’s chocolate cake, cherry pie, brownies!! I may try to stick a margarita in there somewhere!! Thank you for the recipe!! 🍇🍹🍷🎭🎉⚜️👑
Your Mardi Gras-Ritas are almost too pretty to drink Mary! I’ll take a Muffaletta Puff Pastry Pinwheel too please!
Jenna
You are very talented and I love seeing your decorating designs for all holidays…..I would like to see how you store and where you assemble all your designs. You must be very organized! Please share!
Those pinwheels sure looks yummy! Mardi Gras isn’t celebrated much at all in the north, but I know you all must have a fun time in the south. Those bright colors would make anyone happy! Enjoy!
Really? You all do not celebrate? You can start! Make a pretty centerpiece, make a few Mardi Gras inspired recipes . . . I am in CA and we enjoy celebrating. Where I work we have a Fat Tuesday / Mardi Gras inspired lunch, and I need to feed about 500. That’s a lot of King Cake for dessert.
All so pretty! Love your choices of fruit..healthy. Great to share with friends and family as we prepare for the next storm. So today is sunny like the drink! Thanks Mary!
Can’t belief it but when I opened up your email and turned on the PBS Create Channel it is on Kevin Melton’s New Orleans Kitchen. Unfortunately he is not showing Mardi Gras recipes but you are sharing some great recipes. Giving up chocolate for lent 😩😬😥
Ha, ha – Now that’s a ‘national day’ I can get behind Mary! Your drink looks great, Happy Mardi Gras Season:@)
So festive! Admire eveything you do, always so pretty. Cocktail looks amazing! My ex hubby’s birthday falls on Fat Tuesday this year, planning the menu, this fits right in. Thanks so much! 🍹
The tri-flavored margaritas look outstanding! I’ve had each flavor of margarita, but had never layered them together. We’re having such an early Spring that these margaritas are perfectly timed!
That’s so perfect Mary! I love the colored layers – and flavors! Thanks so much for all the great ideas! ❤️
Your Mardi Gras Rita looks beautiful and delicious! Cheers! Joy
Thanks for sharing this Mary! I’m having a get together after work with some friends. I think I’ll put my hubby on blending detail.⚜️🍸
If that’s not the prettiest margarita ever, Mary! I’d love to sip one and do a “cheers” to you!! 🥂
