While Valentine’s Day is most often viewed as a romantic holiday for couples, I like to think of it as a gentle reminder to surround yourself with things you love. Sometimes that means flowers and hearts, and sometimes it means snowmen, cardinals, and a table that makes you smile every time you pass by.

A Whimsical Valentine’s Day Table with Snowmen & Cardinals

Snowmen have a special place in my heart. My mother-in-law collected them and over the years we all took it as a personal challenge to find the most unique snowman ornaments for her Christmas tree. One of my favorites was a snowman paired with cardinals. . .cheerful, unexpected, and full of personality! She had a snowman tabletop tree and kept her collection out through the winter months, which feels especially fitting when the world outside is cold and gray.

Regular readers know my love of birds, so it felt only natural to let that theme carry over into this Valentine’s table. My table is styled next to my Winter Nesting Tree, which helps extend the twinkle season beyond Christmas.

It’s decorated with bird ornaments, glittery nests, pinecones, snowflakes, icy branches and snowy white bands of sparkling ribbon for a cozy way to brighten the house in January and February.

A Snowman-Inspired Centerpiece

The inspiration for the table centerpiece came from a snowman top hat container.

I filled it with foraged greenery. . .cedar and pine, then tucked in nandina berries for a pop of winter red. White sparkling snowflake picks add shimmer, while red glittery and glass heart picks bring in a Valentine’s Day touch.

A red beaded cardinal ornament “flew in” to roost among the greenery, tying the snowman and bird themes together in a way that feels playful and heartfelt.

A Valentine’s Day Reminder

While snowmen and cardinals may not be traditional Valentine’s Day décor, this table is a reminder that holidays don’t have to follow strict rules. They can simply reflect what you love, the memories you cherish, and the little things that bring you joy.

Mary, waking up to this cheerful table delights this housebound Texan. We’ve been iced in since late Saturday, expecting a thaw later today. You know I’m a fan of your beautiful nesting tree, and this theme totally brings joy to my bird loving heart. The snowmen and cardinal plates are so whimsical and fun. How could anyone not feel joy at dining at this adorable table? Love the woolen coverings, the layers of plates with the bright red hearts, and all the jolly snowmen faces. Just the best to warm our hearts on this cold January day. Happy Valentine’s Day!

Mary, your whimsical snowman and cardinal table is so fun! The plates are just adorable and I love your twiggy flatware and fabulous winter nesting tree. Like you, I am thankful for no power outages during this extreme winter weather. Also, your winter blog header image is gorgeous! Stay warm and cozy, Cecilia – My Thrift Store Addiction

Those snowmen plates are just adorable! They make you smile. Ever since my grandmother and mother-in-law passed just three months apart, I have a fondness for cardinals.

Mary, I love your bright and cheery cardinal table setting this morning. I love cardinals…and don’t know if you saw my post last week showing the yellow cardinals that are on the Atlantic coast of Florida which are just as stunning. It has to do with a lacking pigment thing but the yellow cardinals are just as gorgeous as the red and they are certainly show stoppers on your plates, along with the adorable snowmen. Your nesting tree gives a great backdrop to your dining table…each time I see it, I find another interesting little bird (which I adore). I also like the sprinkling of red candy in and about your table which I would definitely enjoy whether they be jelly or chocolate. The white heart table runner reminds me of this weather crunch we have been having and so a perfect addition to your table. Stay warm and safe and keep the lights on! 🥰❤️🥰

I love this ! I’m not a Valentines Day decorator I feel it seems to spring like in the dead of winter! This whimsical design has a nice alternative incorporating both and feels more natural for the time of year.
You have blended it so well, it’s delightful!

Good morning Mary! It is 13 degrees, but thankfully no ice, freezing rain or power outages. Your snowmen and cardinals table is perfect for our wintry weather. Cardinals have been coming regular to eat and I love their bright red color during the gray days we have been experiencing. The snowmen plates with the cardinals are charming sitting atop heart plates! The centerpiece of greenery, nandina berries, with snowflakes and hearts placed in the snowman top hat container is perfect. A snowy white heart runner layered over the plaid throw definitely creates a cozy and warm foundation! I love your heartfelt and whimsical table!

    Stay warm this week❤️

    Mary,
What a fitting table for the weather and Valentine’s Day. The snowmen plates with the cardinals are a perfect combination with the heart plates. So pretty and whimsical.
We are wintering in Florida and it’s even cold here. In the 30’s this morning but still warmer than the 14 degrees at home in north Georgia!!
Thanks for sharing and the fun twist for a Valentine’s Day table!

Your snowmen plates are so charming! It is perfect for this cold winter we are having. I rarely see a cardinal in our yard ,but they are so special! Your layered napkins caught my eye – just perfect for your theme! We have had over 105″ snow so far this season, so snowmen would be a perfect setting here in NY!

  11. January 27, 2026 at 10:29 am

I love what you have done here with the snowmen and Cardinals! We have about 10 inches of snow on the ground here and the temperatures are in the single digits, so this table is absolutely perfect. Those plates with the snowmen are wonderful, and I have to confess they are now in my Amazon shopping cart. I cannot resist snowmen. I’m wondering how I managed to miss the Lindt chocolate snowmen. I just know those are delicious. Everything is perfect, Mary. Stay warm!

  12. January 27, 2026 at 10:53 am

I’m pretty crazy in love with this adorable table, Mary! I have a snowman tree that I set up in my bedroom at Christmas until I change it for Valentine’s Day. Your table is so cheery and fun with those cute plates, snowy goblets, beautiful layered napkins with snowflake napkin rings and that wonderful centerpiece. Thank you for always sharing inspiration for all to enjoy. ❤️

Mary, I love this table! The combination of snowmen, cardinals and hearts are perfect this year. We have ice and snow on the ground. We kept our power because we got sleet instead of freezing rain. I have a red snow tablecloth that matches your napkins. I took it off the table yesterday to set a Valentine’s table but I’m putting it back on and using a Valentine’s table runner instead! I have snowmen on the table so your inspiration is perfect! Thank you! Stay warm! Clara❤️

What a darling idea for a Valentine’s Day-themed table. Cardinals are my favorite of all birds, and I think it’s sweet how they mate for life. I also like the hearts and snowmen, too. Your table has warmed my heart on this extremely cold day.

Mary, your snowmen and cardinal Valentine’s Day table stole my heart. I am a lover of snowmen, especially the ones which are uniquely whimsical. Your plates immediately made me smile and feel nostalgic. They are perfect for feeling warm all over and your paired them with the adorable plaid throw and white fur runner for more warmth and coziness. I have done so many tables for Valentine’s Day with snowman that I can say your table captured my attention immediately. The use of winter elements are a great choice for your snowmen theme. It is almost a “given” here in Wisconsin since we always seem to have snow well into March and April. The mixture of hearts and snowflakes have such a charm. I love your mother-in-laws snowman ornament. They certainly are a jolly fellow. I applaud you in that you make a nesting tree after the Christmas holiday. What a wonderful way to keep the light and twinkle in the home when everything else outside is such a challenge. Looking at your tree would make me forget that there is subzero temperatures right outside my door. Have a charming and enjoyable Valentine’s Day.

The snowman plates are so festive! They would be perfect for serving dessert to my bridge club. The cardinals add another special touch to the table scape. Thank you for sharing!

  20. January 27, 2026 at 3:16 pm

Love the red, white and black color combination, Mary. It’s striking and still speaks to the fun of Christmas just passed and that of a winter wonderland that we are experiencing right now. Cardinal and snowmen go so well together with bright colors and happy smiles. They seem to celebrate all that’s good all winter long. Love the addition of the deep colored hearts throughout the tablescape. They remind us that Valentine’s Day is being celebrated. The heart runner is a nice classic touch. Hope you enjoy the rest of the winter with your lovely nesting tree. Have a wonderful Valentine’s Day!

Hello Mary, your wintry table is so cheerful and fun. Gotta love the snowmen plates and the cardinals. Your plate stack is so pretty with the red beaded placemat and heart shaped plates. The napkins are lovely with the snowflake napkin ring. Your snowman hat is perfect with nandina and greenery. The pop of red is lovely. This table is so perfect because many bloggers are experiencing such cold temps and snow. We are in the 60’s here. Always a pleasure joining you on these fun blog hops.

Mary, your snowman and cardinal table is such a delight. I love the layering of the runner on the black and red throw and the top hat centerpiece is so cheerful with the greenery, red berries, snowflakes, and heart picks. And of course we can’t forget about the sweet cardinal – they are a very rare sighting indeed where I live, and I’ve only ever seen one in all the years that I’ve lived here (and I suspect it was directionally challenged). The plates are adorable and the snowman ornament is precious and it must be special to you. Love the snow goblets and the chocolate snowman. It’s a perfect winter table to celebrate Valentine’s day. I hope you didn’t get any snow where you are and wishing you a happy Valentine’s day. Stay warm and cozy!

  24. January 28, 2026 at 1:04 pm

Mary, your table reflects my backyard perfectly!! We had 14″ of snow on Saturday to Sunday and another 2″ Monday and Tuesday! The black and red plaid throw brings such a coziness to all of your fun, chilly, and adorable details to your table. The snow man plates are so cute. I love your double napkins of hearts and snowflakes with the big chunky snowflake napkin rings. The cardinal is Ohio’s state bird and we see a lot of them!! There is still nothing like the striking red bird against the sparkling snow for a beautiful image, just like your’s in the snow covered evergreen tree. All this snow brings a very peaceful hush to the world around me. A good reason to stay home, safe, and pour over all these beautiful tables!! I hope you have a lovely Valentine’s Day❤️

  25. January 28, 2026 at 8:34 pm

Your snowman Valentine’s table is so whimsical and so pretty. I love the snowman plate on top of the heart plate. The snowmen look like they are playing with the cardinals. The snowflake napkin ring is darling—perfect choice for your table.
I would love to join you for some sweets! Thanks for the inspiration!
    Happy Week to you!

This is the perfect execution of the imagery that surrounds us at this time of year (and for many more than who normally see it this week!). The placemats and glassware from Kohl’s are true gems, I love them both. The layering of the snowman/cardinal salads on the red heart plates and white chargers are so pleasing to the eye in how they blend the just right mix red, white, red, white from the bottom to top. Your winter nesting tree has amazed me for years, and has certainly inspired a few additional ornaments to my own cache. You truly have some special ones! Those little prints in the layered napkins are so cute, and the faux fur heart runner on the plaid throw is a winning combination, again, giving a perfect sense of that outdoor imagery. Mary, thanks so much for being a part of this hop and sharing your creative flair on the table, in your floral arrangements, and in your great recipes.

  29. January 30, 2026 at 2:37 pm

Mary, your table is cheerfully adorable, combining some of the cutest snowman plates I’ve seen with the wonderful reds of Valentine’s Day. The centerpiece is wonderfully appropriate for a winter holiday and I love the cardinal peeking out from the branches. The ornaments and placements echo the sparkle from the snowy items as well as the real stuff outside your window. This is definitely a table to enjoy all February long! Glad to join you on this hop!

I agree, dear Mary! We are almost always under snow for St. Valentine’s Day here – so I love that you mixed winter and Val Day together for your tablescape. It’s fun and adorable and who wouldn’t love to much their yummy chocolates while sitting at lunch with you?

  31. February 2, 2026 at 7:44 am

Mary, I love your wintery take on this Valentine’s Day table! I also completely agree that it should be a day spent celebrating all the things (and people) we love! The snowman theme resonates with me as we are currently buried in snow, with more on the way! The snowman ornaments are adorable, as are the plates! I especially like the white puffy heart table runner as it reminds me of fresh fallen fluffy snow! Always a pleasure to join you on these hops!

  32. February 6, 2026 at 3:37 pm

Mary, this is such a joyful and heartfelt take on Valentine’s — I love how you blended winter whimsy with meaningful memories. The snowmen and cardinals together feel so personal and charming, and that top hat centerpiece is absolutely delightful! Your layering of cozy textures and winter elements makes the table feel warm and inviting while still celebrating the season beautifully. It’s a wonderful reminder that Valentine’s can simply reflect the things we love most. So happy to be hopping along with you!
