At the Table~ Mikasa Swirl

DSC_8295-001

I’m at the table with Mikasa Swirl Dinnerware. . .

simple, versatile, and modern with a ribbed design,

that lends itself to a ‘pottery wheel’ feel.

DSC_8302-001

In contrast to last week’s table, I kept the centerpiece

and table simple, to pair with the dinnerware.

DSC_8290-001

A soft, wool throw is layered over a matelasse coverlet.

Seville Bone Handled Flatware adds a natural

warmth, along with woven chargers

for additional texture to the table.

DSC_8227-001

A pumpkin in an urn and a medley of smaller pumpkins,

gourds, and nuts, make an easy & casual centerpiece.

DSC_8239-001

The stoneware, with its simple, clean lines,

has a combination of

matte and gloss glazes on each piece.

DSC_8293-001

Organic in shape, the cereal bowl has a ribbed and matte finish

on the outside, in contrast to a polished and glossy surface

on the inside, and is generously sized~

offering up a seasonal tiger striped pumpkin.

DSC_8228-001

Swirl stemware offers a textural appeal,

with its raised circular lines,

to pair with the dinnerware.

DSC_8205-001

The simple design of the dinnerware

lends itself to layering with other colors.

DSC_8329-001

I changed the throw on the top of the coverlet,

to a brown and green plaid,

to pair with Mikasa Swirl in tan and sage.

DSC_8321-001

DSC_8345-001

A patterned napkin and green bubble

stem goblets add some depth of color.

DSC_8362-001

Swirl Dinnerware is also available in a square

shape~ in white, chocolate, and black.

DSC_8376-001

Square dinner plates in chocolate are paired with

white salad plates, placed on the diagonal,

and topped with sage bowls.

DSC_8385-001

Round chargers were replaced with

square ones, to frame the square plates.

Everything is wonderful. Can you tell me where to find the urn you used as a centerpiece. I am trying to find one that’s not concrete so that it’s not so heavy. thanks so much.

    • October 7, 2013 at 7:15 am

Thanks Sandi, It’s painted cast iron so it IS heavy, it’s from my retail days.

Both tables are just lovely. It’s amazing how just changing a few things can give you two entirely different looks. My favorite is the flatware…just love it!

It’s fun to dissect every detail and savor each one! Beautiful!! Are the square woven chargers still available? Are they sold on World Market website or only in the stores? Thanks!

    • October 7, 2013 at 8:04 am

Thanks Kathy, I’ve had the chargers for several years. I don’t see them on WM’s website, I’ll check next time I’m in the store to see if they’re still available.

Hi Mary, This is a beautiful pattern and I love the flatware! So many options with one pattern–that’s what I need. The bowls look like a great size and the texture change from interior to exterior is fascinating. You have the best throws to use for the table cover and I really enjoyed seeing the change of the two plaids so thank you for the effort! Linda

So pretty Mary, I love the soft orange and browns with the white dinnerware. The smooth and rough surfaces of the dishes is so subtle yet adds so much interest~I love how you made just a few changes and created a whole different look! You are the queen of using quilts and blankets and making them look elegant~The setting is perfect for your beautiful autumn table~

Beautiful, I always look forward to your posts. So much thought, care and time is given to what you create and it shows! Completely Fall, inspiring and a table setting (either one) that I would love to join!

Gorgeous, as usual! Only thing to make it more perfect would be to have those 2 adorable pups perched at the place settings!! And um……you are killing my pocketbook! Seems I keep buying all the dishware you showcase…aaaaccckkk. I don’t have a dish pantry. Killing me, I tell ya!!

Love the tan and sage so pretty next to the water, which looks cold, brrr! I like your center piece using the urn, that is so neat!

Thanks Paula! It was overcast but the water temperatures are still warm. It was 88 degrees yesterday :)

  12. October 7, 2013 at 9:42 am

Such interesting patterns & textures to this tablescape, Mary…very inviting on a chilly fall day.
I’m in love with your soft, wool throw layered over the matelasse coverlet.
I may just borrow you idea for that centerpiece for a dinner party on the 16th. I want to use my new Waterford crystal stemware & I’ve been struggling with how to incorporate autumn with it. Using the urn for both elevation as well as “upscale” design just might work & I have a very similar one, too. Thanks for the inspiration, as always!!

    Hugs,
    R.

I especially love your first table setting! So calm yet festive for the fall! And the plaid throws really create a cozy table! I too am a china addict and enjoy watching you create with your collection! Do you know of a creative way to store your china? I have various places where I stash mine and would love to make them easy to access and store so company can see them.

I’m new to your sight and thought I was able to do a house tour of your home once but now can’t seem to find it…do you have one posted?

  19. October 7, 2013 at 11:10 am

If I had looked at this dinnerware in the store in a basic display, I would have thought it was much too modern for me, but seeing it in your tablescape makes me take a whole new look! I love it! It looks very versatile and interesting the way you have it styled. Thanks!

  35. October 9, 2013 at 7:14 pm

I have such a hard time commenting on your posts, because they always contain so many pieces of “eye candy” that I never know where to begin! Love both of these tables, because I absolutely adore anything plaid (much be my Scottish heritage!). The Mikasa china pieces in both colors are beautiful and you have certainly “done them proud” with your designs. Gorgeous!

  36. October 9, 2013 at 8:06 pm
