In anticipation of Thanksgiving and with a thankful heart,
I’m at the table enjoying our weather in North Carolina,
which is usually mild enough for dining
alfresco or on the porch in November.
A proud tom turkey takes center stage for this holiday,
and decorates the plates, bordered with leaves
and a fruit and vegetable pattern.
Artichokes, apples, and some leafy kale, providing texture,
were harvested from the produce department
to create a Pumpkin Vase Centerpiece.
Flowers from Trader Joe’s are bountiful and affordable
with mums, daisies and sunflowers adding fall color
and leaves and clippings from shrubs
added for filler and texture.
A plaid throw in a soft palette of warm browns
is layered over a matelasse coverlet.
Napkins are also layered, a variegated stripe with
a metallic sheen, paired with a stylized
leaf print in browns and greens
for some additional color and pattern.
Bittersweet vine adds a little
color and contrast
to rustic woven chargers.
Our weather in North Carolina has been
mild and in the 70s until recently.
With an eye on the forecast to avoid rain and
lake wind advisories, I was a week too early photographing
this table, to capture any fall color or leaves which have
since turned from green to gold almost overnight.
An Autumn Blaze Maple is always the first to turn,
providing long-awaited and dazzling red color.
Indian Corn provides some texture
lined up next to bone handled flatware.

Beautiful outdoor Thanksgiving table, Mary. I love that gorgeous centerpiece and the bittersweet wreaths are fabulous!
I love that rustic flatware Mary and nothing says Thanksgiving better than a big fat (er… plump) ole Tom Turkey! Somehow in just one day, all the leaves fell off the trees across the street… Gone, but not forgotten… We still have raking to do. Looking for snow flurries this morning:@)
Mary – That is a gorgeous table setting!! I love the fruits and vegetables arranged with the fresh flowers. It was so naturally gorgeous. The dinnerware is so pretty also. I love the rustic, traditional look of it. Great pictures – great post – :-)
Mary – Your Thanksgiving table is pure perfection! All of the texture and layering creates a wonderful setting for a lovely meal. I love florals arranged in a pumpkin container and really want to try that myself one day. Keep guard over your bone handled flatware. I’d hate for it to go missing one day…:D

As usual, I leave here thinking that you are my favorite tablescaper of all. I love every table you do, but I guess because fall is my favorite season, I love this one more than ever.

All the fall colors you used in the centerpiece is beautiful ! I seen those turkey plates at Marshalls, and love them. Again, what a lovely view you have, I’m looking out at our first snow here in northern IN. (I do like it :)

I always love to see your tablescapes by the water…it gives us such a sense of calm and serenity..you have such a magnificent backdrop for tablescapes that deserve that back drop as they are just as magnificent…I love the gorgeous centerpiece and you attention to detail is always impeccable…and I am so loving that R.L. throw!…yes, the leaves did seem to burst into color overnight!! My favorite part of all is the light, it is magical the way it bounces around your table making each element glisten as it is highlighted in your shots~the bittersweet looks fabulous with all your natural elements and the centerpiece is just stunning. It is a feast without food!

Mary, This is GORGEOUS! I love the fresh flowers, fruit and vegetables in a pumpkin as a vase as your centerpiece. I wish I could find some bittersweet that is pretty. I love the real but can’t get it in our area. Is yours real or faux? If faux where did you find it. It is fabulous. Great idea to place it around your plates. I love that pattern. Just attended my garden club and she had the same pattern.

Mary, as always, your photographs are stunning. Of course, part of that is because you set the most lush tablescapes. That flower arrangement is gorgeous and your table setting is a perfect Thanksgiving one. All of the colors are what make Fall so special. Love the plates, napkins and that bone flatware – so, so pretty!!
You always have the loveliest pictures on your blog and I must say from the pictures you are a ‘mouthwatering’ cook. Southerns in general are grand cooks. My mother was a great cook and after I was married I looked forward to going back for her home cooking and most things always came from her garden. We were big on vegetables and hers always tasted the best. Loved her okra and I am serving some for dinner this evening.
