Celebrate Valentine’s Day with a sweet treat~ Brownie Truffles!

Brownie Truffles are an easy treat for Valentine’s Day,

using a short cut. . .Brownie Mix in a box!

I used Duncan Hines Dark Chocolate Fudge Brownie Mix. You can use the brownie mix of your choice or your favorite recipe. If you use a family size mix, you’ll end up with approximately 30 truffles or treats for Valentine’s Day. Pop them in a mini muffin paper for serving & gift giving! I used two liners per truffle, turning one inside out.

I had seen several versions of brownie truffles on Pinterest.

I used a recipe from CandyQuik.

Bake your brownies according to the box directions and let cool. Crumble brownies into a large bowl, leaving behind any hard edge pieces~ freeze edges in case of chocolate emergency when the Valentine’s Day candy and treats are gone. :)

CandyQuik’s recipe calls for adding half of a 16 oz. can of cream cheese frosting to your crumbled brownies. The texture of fudge brownies tends to hold together in a ball for truffle-making better than cake-style brownies, so I used less than 1/3 of a can of frosting to keep the truffles from being overly sweet.

Feel free to adjust to your sweet tooth and mix with the frosting flavor of your choice.

Add your frosting to your crumbled brownies

and mix thoroughly.

Roll your mixture into 1” sized balls.

Chill approximately 1 – 2 hours in the refrigerator

or 45 minutes in the freezer, until firm.

Melt candy coating according to directions on the package. I like the convenience of CandyQuik, since it comes in blocks and with a convenient microwave disposable tray.

Substitute candy melts or chocolate chips if you prefer.

Place your truffle ball on a fork and dip into the melted chocolate. Spoon the chocolate coating on top. Once the ball is covered, tap the fork on the edge of the bowl or tray to remove excess chocolate and place truffle on wax paper.

Add decorative sprinkles before the candy coating is set. I found an assortment of sprinkles and Wilton Micro Hearts at Michaels. If your brownie truffles start to get too sticky when dipping, place the remaining truffles in the freezer for an additional 20 – 30 minutes, until they firm up for easier handling.

Ingredients

  • 1 box Family Size Brownie Mix plus ingredients for brownie mix on box
  • 1/3 to 1/2 16 oz. can cream cheese frosting, or flavor or choice. Adjust quantity to your sweet tooth.
  • Almond Bark or Chocolate Coating like CandyQuik, candy melts, or chocolate chips
  • Decorative Sprinkles

Instructions

  • Prepare and bake brownie mix as directed on box; cool completely.
  • Crumble brownies into a large bowl (if the edges are hard leave those out). Add frosting and mix thoroughly.
  • Roll mixture into 1” sized balls. Chill approximately 1-2 hours in the refrigerator (or in freezer 30 – 45 minutes if in a hurry) until firm.
  • Melt candy coating according to directions on package. Substitute candy melts or chocolate chips if desired.
  • Place your truffle ball on a fork and dip into the chocolate. Spoon chocolate on top. Once the ball is covered tap the fork on the edge of the bowl to remove excess chocolate and place on wax paper to set.
  • Sprinkle with decorative sprinkles before coating is set.

Notes

  • Fudge-style brownies tend to roll in a ball easier than cake-style so you can use less frosting so truffles aren't overly sweet.
  • If brownie truffles start to get sticky when dipping, place the remaining truffles in the refrigerator or freezer for an additional 20-30 minutes.

Love this! I had to pin to my ‘secret board” until Valentines Day is over because some of my peeps see my pins. I hope I have time to do this for my luncheon club this weekend. I was planning to just give some candy that I bought but this would be such a great surprise inside the boxes instead. Love it.

Oh wow, Mary — these look SO GOOD!!! I haven’t had breakfast yet, and they are making me hungry! :) I have a favorite brownie mix, and this looks like a fun way to use it. I never met a truffle I didn’t like, and I’m definitely going to pin this recipe. :-D I love the way you made everything pretty from the double cupcake liners to the sprinkles on top.

Thanks for sharing this with us and I hope you have a great day!!

You’re so clever! I’ve always thought those pretty liners were pointless because they’re hard to see. Double liners – you’ve solved the problem. Not sure why I never thought of that!

Beautiful truffles. I love the cute colorful topping. I probably could eat the whole tray myself. Your recipe sounds like MAYBE I could make these. One year I was assigned to make truffles for no less than a bridal tea. Oh, I was sweating trying to make them pretty. Of course, I didn’t allow myself enough time either so I don’t have good memories about making truffles.

These little truffles are so festive and I can just imagine how delicious they are. I have never tried a recipe like this and I know my family would love them. Starting with a brownie mix is a real time saver.
