How was your weekend? Were you busy decking the halls? I’ve been slowly adding some Christmas greens around the Potting Shed, working my way around the outside, cleaning up leaves and neglected pots of frost-nipped annuals, replacing with boughs of cedar, pine and cypress. We had some much-need rain over the weekend, so I took a little break from sprucing up outside for a little tabletop fun and plaid tidings inside the Potting Shed.
I picked a roll of chalkboard paper to use as runner on my galvanized counter at Hobby Lobby last week.
Ideal for chalking it up with Glad Tidings plates from Pier 1 and the addition of plaid plates and ribbon for plaid tidings!
Candy canes and sprigs of boxwood join vintage ornaments, beaded glass floral picks and a collection of vintage triple plate silver creamers and sugars.
While I like all things merry and bright at Christmas, I also enjoy the luster of silver that’s faded and worn to a soft pewter finish to add some vintage charm.
I happened to stumble on these little Season’s Greetings buckets filled with mini evergreen trees in the outdoor garden area at Walmart last week.
I placed some tinsel garland around the base of the trees for a little sparkle and to add some Ho, Ho, Ho.
Shiny Brites and vintage ornaments add a little nostalgia with their soft colors, time-worn patina and Christmas messages.
And paisley patterned and a tartan print napkins are paired with red tartan napkin rings from Williams-Sonoma, purchased last year.
Adding some greenery and decking the halls with clippings of cypress, sprigs of boxwood, cedar and magnolia leaves always brings me joy and puts me in the Christmas spirit!

Everything looks so pretty and festive Mary!!! Of course my two grandsons bring me the most joy during the Christmas season and all year long. But I also love everything Christmas. Our tree brings me special joy though with the special ornaments my boys and I make each year.
The Potting Shed is perfectly gorgeous! Love the falling snow across the photos, we have the real thing falling this morning in R.I.- but, it will soon change to rain. I love this chalkboard theme, absolutely beautiful! I must check our Walmart for those divine little Evergreens in those adorable buckets. Your artistic talents and photography are amazing. Thank-you for this splendid post.
Beautiful table. I love the chalkboard runner and your special chalk design touch around each plate. I purchased those plates from Pier 1 last year and they are my favorites! Add plaid and greens and you can’t possibly go wrong. Thank you for the inspiration. 😊
Mary, you have brightened my morning! What a beautiful tablesetting, and the potting shed looks gorgeous! I love the chalkboard runner…it is the perfect touch! I hope that you have a happy and blessed day!!!
Too old and wouldn’t know where to begin?? I read and view Mary’s and it gives me so much inspiration. Just so happens that last January I came across plaid tablecloth and napkins at my local Christmas Tree shop for like $5 so I bought them..like I need another Christmas tablecloth…you won’t believe the things I have found, like Mary, at the weirdest places..it’s all about being at that place at the right time and I have lucked out several times..yesterday I was at one of our Walmarts and guess what I found…those cute chalkboard buckets with trees..but I would have never known if it wasn’t for this site!! Love Mary’s ideas!!!
If you were in downsizing mode, I would gladly make it real easy for you, and purchase that entire scene! It is everything I love, right down to those cute little planted mini trees from Walmart. And I see snow flurries!
This is fa la la fabulous Mary! I am crazy over that chalkboard runner!! The vintage ornaments are a wonderful touch, and the chalkboard pots of greens are the cutest! Love the candy cane filled silver pitchers…Plaid tidings abound!

Mary….we all need to visit you each morning as it would start off our day on a very bright note. You can make anyone smile with joy as they view whatever gorgeous thing you have to share that day….and this day is one that truly brings joy in your day. Love those fabulous plates and of course you make them more beautiful by what you surround them with….Have a very Merry week!
Mary, we have been soaking for days now, but no complaints. As you say, we need the rain too, and the cold and rain makes being inside perfect. I love the merry and bright attitude of the potting shed. The chalkboard plates caught my eye, and I was soooooo tempted. I need a “storage” house!
Thanks for sharing all this joy on this rainy morning. A beautiful way to start my day!
Hi Mary🎄 Loving these placesettings. Great Napkin pairings. The Tartan and the Paisley are lovely together. How creative, well I know that you are, to sketch the design on the Chalkboard runner and it matches the pattern on the Pier1 plates. So very pretty!
Wishing you a very Merry Christmas and David and the Puppers too!🎄❤️🎄❤️
Mary I love it! The touches of black and chalkboard are just making those beautiful plaid dishes pop! I always love seeing how you decorate your potting shed for each season or holiday. Such a great inspiration!
Mary I wanted to leave a second comment so you could delete it but you are not participating in the home tour today? I am wondering if you did the same thing I did….I thought it was NEXT monday and left the links out of my holiday post today…
Love your vintage silverplate mixed with the new, Mary! Those Wal Mart pails are adorable with your chalkboard plates and your chalkboard runner. Your potting shed looks happy in Christmas decor!
I am VERY late in visiting todays blogs as our neighborhood Christmas party was last night and I danced into the wee hours:) So, everything I did today was later than usual. What brings me joy? Coming here to see what you have done to put a smile on our faces! This is just fabulous, love every single detail!!!
It scares me how often we have some of the same things on our blogs, Mary!! Of course, YOURS are way more impressive. I just flipped when I saw all these darling chalky items!! Love all your darling touches, too. The plaids with the black is just stunning. *sigh* You inspire me to start entertaining again.
Mary, I always enjoy my visits with you. The potting shed is totally decked out for the Christmas season in beautiful finery! Every detail is so perfect! Love it!
How very pretty Mary! Love the Shiny Bright ornaments, I have a couple of boxes from our childhood. They become more precious to me with each passing year. Everything is so very well put together ~ you are quite the artist! Thanks!
I love all the chalkboard dishes and the runner. You have done such a beautiful job with your chalkboard runner. I need to get to work on my chalkboard skills!
Plaid and red and evergreens all bring me joy this season, Mary, especially when they are all together in our favorite potting shed! And the vintage ornaments remind me so much of ones we used on my childhood tree. I find myself very attracted to paisley lately so this table is so appealing to me. Your little falling snowflakes are just the right amount of snow for me! Just little bits here so far this year, and I’m hoping it stays like this until the middle of the night Christmas Eve! Linda
Hi Linda, I wouldn’t mind a few snowflakes but they don’t stick around here like they do in your neck of the woods! We’ve had rain this week which we are in desperate need of.
P.S. You’re up early this morning :)
Oh, I love those plates from Pier One – especially the “Joy to the World” one! (It’s “my” song). And the chalkboard paper runner is the perfect setting for those plates, along with the plaid plates and all the other wonderful touches.
Just a really fun table setting. The plates are so cute, and one of my favorite elements is the little container with the candy canes and the greens; they go so well together, as do the Pier 1 plates and the plaid plates. Love the little trees in the pots.
You definitely have your Ho Ho Ho on! I’m liking black/white/red and tartan …. hmmmm … guess it just proves that even though I’m getting older, my “taste” can change! :) :)
Love chalkboards and plaids! I did the same theme for Christmas last year! The use of the chalkboard runner ais genius! So very pretty! Thank you for joining the 12 days of Holiday Homes tour! Hope you have time to visit my home tour too! Have a very Merry Christmas!
Thanks Mary,
Hope you have a wonderful Christmas! I get so inspired by your photographs…as I too have many wonder Fitz and Floyd pieces to decorate with and my obsession with holiday china is a little crazy. My Children and now 11 grandchildren think I go a tad overboard but I can’t help but to dig out my much loved pieces and make the house come to life.

Mary, was the chalkboard runner paper or vinyl and did you do the drawing on it and did you use chalk or paint?
Hi Paula, The chalkboard paper is vinyl: https://www.hobbylobby.com/Crafts-Hobbies/Painting-Surfaces/Chalkboard/Black-Chalkboard-Vinyl-Surface/p/74538
I used chalk to draw on it. :)
Thanks Mary,
