At the Table: Cheery Checks, Merry Plaids and Whimsical Reindeer

The Christmas countdown has begun and Santa’s reindeer will arrive in less than a week!

Time for one last table with a little celebratory Christmas red and green and before taking time off to join in some reindeer games!

I set this table on the porch to enjoy the sunshine and some blue water views. The weather has been like a roller coaster ride (or hilly sleigh ride ;) with an early snowfall the beginning of the month, followed by lows in the upper 20s, to a high of 70 today. . .welcome to December in North Carolina!

I found these whimsical reindeer at Hobby Lobby at the end of the season last year for 75% off.

They’re metal with a birch-log painted finish. I thought they would be fun to use outside by the Potting Shed in a wreath or prancing in a window box but time got away from me this year.

Instead, they’re prancing down the center of the table among some Christmas greenery, red ornaments, votives and glasses filled with sweet treats~ candy canes and reindeer corn.

Cheery checks and merry plaids in Christmas reds and greens play together on the table. . .

Along with striped napkins and plaid chargers.

I filled bowls with Reindeer Corn Snack Mix, an additive and easy no-bake treat!

Mary, what a fun and festive table with the reindeer! I love the mix of checks and plaid in all the wonderful reds and greens of Christmas! The weather has been the same in Alabama with possible severe weather tomorrow! Wishing you and yours a very Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year!

Thank you for all the time you take to set up such pretty tables for us to enjoy, Mary!! The prancing reindeer look so perfectly at home on your porch table. They really do look like their made from birch, and not metal. I’d be a happy guest to sit outside, enjoy your view, your magical table, and your popcorn treat.

So cute! Love the striped napkins with the plaid – it all goes so well together with the hues in the china, flatware and even the plaids. There are so many variations of the colors and patterns of red & green!
Busy, busy week here, cooking for 32 on Sunday (and praying I don’t catch the germs of guests who’ve already been here for other entertainment)……Merry Christmas to you, Mary if I miss the chance later this week!

You’re so brave to host, cook and entertain for 32 Rita! I hope you stay healthy. My hubby brought home a cold from work. I’m sanitizing, taking zinc and drinking echinacea tea and vitamin C, hoping to keep it at bay! Merry Christmas!👩‍🍳🎄🎁🍽❤️

What a fun table! The green and red votives, the red ornaments, the reindeer, the candycanes and the plaid, Santa would be very pleased! My neice stopped over yesterday with gifts and a cookie tray and a version of your reindeer mix, but instead of popcorn she used Chex cereal. It was so good, hard to stop eating it and since I love popcorn, yours I am sure would be even better! Lol. May you have a joyous Christmas with family and friends!

Hi Cyndi, I’ve had a version of that mix and it is addictive! Wishing you and your hubby a Merry Christmas!🎄🎄🎄

Such a light-hearted table for Christmas. I always draw inspiration from the details and layers you add to all your tables. Sooooo…..I think I’ll head to the table!

So adorable Mary! Weren’t your fingers itching having to wait a year before bringing out those cute reindeer! Such a happy table and soooo sweet~ we are having crazy weather too, snow was predicted for Christmas yesterday but I’m sure that will change. Seeing your reindeer today made me remember I haven’t gotten mine out yet, this has been a hectic season, my presents still aren’t wrapped…I need elves!

I purchased the same reindeer last year! Sometimes I hang small glass ball ornaments from their antlers! No matter how many emails I need to check each day, looking at your blog is always my favorite. Thanks for the great ideas and inspiration!

Love following all your ideas. Plaid has been my favourite this year. My husband actually made me a reindeer from pieces of tree clippings. Not as durable as yours though. It is very hot here in Australia but I can still adapt your ideas.
Thank you for so many wonderful tables and ideas this year. I wish you and your family and all your readers a very happy and safe Christmas.

Those reindeer are way too cute!!!…..I rarely go to Hobby Lobby as it is pretty far from me…..however, come January, they are opening a Hobby Lobby near me! Oh happy day!…Another fabulously fun and pretty table Mary! May you have a very Merry week! Thanks for all of the inspiration and fun!!!

Mary, what a delightful table..those reindeer are darling..speaking of time getting away from you..I’m right there with you..don’t know where the time went but I am doing last minute things..we usually have 22-23 for Christmas Eve dinner..and this year, since we have too many kids, we don’t buy gifts..I bake or make..the bake this year is homemade bread and homemade apple butter..each household , and there are 10, gets a large loaf of white bread and a jar of apple butter..I have 2 more loaves of bread to do..thank you for all your inspiration in decorating..and the yummy recipes throughout the year..and, not to forget the fun giveaways..MERRY CHRISTMAS to you and your family..lots of blessings too! ❤️🎄❤️🎄❤️🎄❤️

  20. December 19, 2017 at 10:17 pm

Mary, this is yet another adorable table for the holidays. The reindeer are very clever, and no doubt you will think of many creative uses each year. I find myself adding things I don’t need just because they might someday be just what I need. Most of the time, I do! Of course anything plaid calls out to me. The reindeer corn is a cute idea. I’ve not seen that here, though I did buy a bag of Rudolph noses (cherry balls) this week.
Enjoy your holidays, and yes, stay healthy. Many around here have had the flu, even with having taken a flu shot.
Merry Christmas to you and your husband, Chloe, and Gracie!

I have a case of plaid envy, which is a real condition among dish living dames. Love the layering, and those reindeer are wonderfully woodsy and darling. I need to do a little post-holiday shopping for Christmas 2018! Our weather has been wild, too. Right now, it’s pouring ( but in the 50s). Earlier, a cold snap kept me indoors. I had so many plans that fell by the wayside. I am still addressing Christmas cards (Shutterfly was fast: I was slow). I never could get a photo of Jasper and Charlotte together. I hope you recover from your cold in time for Christmas.

I am realizing that I have missed many of your posts in Dec. Happy to catch up now. I am “dedecorating” but take a break every now and then. I always forget how time consuming it is taking it all down. Hope your weekend is going great!
