The countdown to St. Patrick’s Day has begun and this leprechaun’s hat centerpiece
makes a festive and edible centerpiece for your celebration and table!
While a leprechaun is hard to catch, this St. Patrick’s Day centerpiece and leprechaun’s hat
is easy to capture and create with using clear glass vases, candy and flowers!
Here are the supplies you’ll need:
☘ a buckle (I found mine with the sewing notions at Hobby Lobby for $2.49, less 40% with a weekly sale
☘ black ribbon ( 2 inch grosgrain ribbon / Hobby Lobby)
☘ double-sided tape to secure ribbon to vase
☘ large glass vase or glass serving bowl with straight sides (Target)
☘ smaller glass vase to fit inside large one (Target)
☘ glass plate or platter (Target)
☘ green candy of your choice ( jelly beans / Party City)
☘ white flowers (daisies, mums, carnations and alstroemeria are all affordable options and will last 10 days to two weeks)
I snipped the metal prong off using pliers to thread the ribbon through the buckle,
and attached the ribbon to my vase with double-sided tape.
I used the same method as with my Valentine’s Day table centerpiece and my favorite recycling tip –>
reuse the plastic netting bag that avocados come in!
The produce netting bags that citrus and avocados come in are strong and flexible,
making them an ideal material to support your flower stems and
saves you the step of taping off a grid pattern on your vase.
Cut the netting to size to fit the top of your small vase.
I used wide clear packing tape which makes it quick and easy to
secure the slippery netting to the vase. Tape the netting to the sides of vase,
stretching it to keep it tight as you tape.
The tighter the netting is, the more support the flowers stems will have.
Use the green candy of your choice, filling in between the walls of your vases
as decoration and to conceal your flower stems. Add water to your taped vase
and then your flowers, using the grid to arrange and support your stems.
Daisies and mums are easier to arrange through the netting if you cut them apart.
Place your vases on a clear plate or platter and add more candy
to create the brim of your leprechaun hat and edible centerpiece!

I added sparkling shamrock picks and leprechaun hat ribbon for a little embellishment.

Just love it ! Fun for St Pattys day
Genius!👌🏻🎩🍀
Oh my gosh, you are so, so clever, and this is so cute! I usually don’t like what I refer to as the cheeky stuff but this….this!
psssst…..I caught a leprechaun and turned him into a shepherd. ;)
L🍀VE IT!
Mary, what a fun centerpiece. Your tutorial is easy to follow and this would be a fun project with children. Happy Monday…It is pouring rain at my house!
Your imagination has no limits Mary. Too cute!
How cute and clever ! I love it !
Once again, Mary you’ve outdone yourself! The centerpiece is whimsy without being too much! I’d love for you to tell your readers… what size the two glass containers are that you frequently use for the arrangements concerning height and the circumference. I can’t tell you the number of times, I’ve gone to look in the vase isle, feel overwhelmed and leave without purchasing any vases. Obviously, this concept leaves me without a centerpiece and feeling inept concerning my ability to decorate! Your recommendation would be greatly appreciated! :)
Thanks Melissa! The inner vase is here on Target’s website, I got it last week: 4.5 inches (H) x 5.1 inches (W) x 5.1 inches (D), $2.99. I can’t find the bowl on their website but I got it the same time too. It’s approximately 10 inches in diameter (hard to measure with my flowers still inside) and 5 inches tall. It was by Anchor Hocking and $8.99 :)
Top o’ the mornin’ to ye, Mary! How cute is that! We are of German descent, but can’t resist the fun of St. Daddy’s day and decorated with a bit of green myself. Time to put away the snowmen and bring out some fairies, birds and lambs. So ready for Spring! Thanks for another great centerpiece!
St. Paddy’s day – I hate it when it automatically corrects to what it thinks you want! Lol
This just makes me smile! Thank you Mary for your wonderful ideas!
So,so cute! I’m running out today to purchase supplies . We always celebrate quite big on St. Patrick’s day. I get out all my Belleck pottery and make traditional Irish food from the cookbooks I’ve brought home from Ireland. This will make a cute addition to decor! Thank you Mary.
ha,ha! How utterly delightful Mary, I am grinning from ear to ear! The “belt” is brilliant! I hope the leprechauns don’t steal all your jelly beans!

Great Fun! The Little Folk are going to love it. Thank you for sharing. . ..
Such a cute idea! I’m battling with avoiding sugar/carbs so I won’t even bring any candy in the house but I’m sure a similar look could be achieved with other resources! Love the simplicity of the ribbon and the buckle for the hat.
Of course, you can make even St. Patrick’s Day decor elegant and gorgeous! How fun. I just love this idea, and the pop of flowers makes me even more anxious for warm weather to come.
Oh my goodness, this is just the cutest DIY project for St. Patrick’s Day. Adorable! I have to tell you I am so glad I know how to solve my flower arranging now, netting! Honestly who knew, I didn’t Now I will tape the netting to my vases for easier floral arrangements. Thanks Mary.

Happy St. Pat’s Day ☘️
I only had a few days and little time to try and replicate this adorable centerpiece for a an event that I was hosting. I already had a couple of green felt St. Patty’s Day hats, with belts, just like in the picture. I also had a vase still with the florists tape crisscrossing the top. I simply cut the top out of the hat and put the vase in the hole. While the Jelly Bellies are certainly more fun and unique, this quick hack turned out pretty cute. I received many compliments and questions on how I did it. I did give credit to you and your talents! You may be getting several new subscribers! Thank you for the great inspiration!
