DIY St. Patrick’s Day Centerpiece: Blooming and Edible Leprechaun Hat!

The countdown to St. Patrick’s Day has begun and this leprechaun’s hat centerpiece

makes a festive and edible centerpiece for your celebration and table!

While a leprechaun is hard to catch, this St. Patrick’s Day centerpiece and leprechaun’s hat

is easy to capture and create with using clear glass vases, candy and flowers!

Here are the supplies you’ll need:

 ☘ a buckle (I found mine with the sewing notions at Hobby Lobby for $2.49, less 40% with a weekly sale

 ☘ black ribbon ( 2 inch grosgrain ribbon / Hobby Lobby)

☘ double-sided tape to secure ribbon to vase

☘ large glass vase or glass serving bowl with straight sides (Target)

☘ smaller glass vase to fit inside large one (Target)

☘ glass plate or platter (Target)

☘ green candy of your choice ( jelly beans / Party City)

☘ white flowers  (daisies, mums, carnations and alstroemeria are all affordable options and will last 10 days to two weeks)

 I snipped the metal prong off using pliers to thread the ribbon through the buckle,

and attached the ribbon to my vase with double-sided tape.

I used the same method as with my Valentine’s Day table centerpiece and my favorite recycling tip –>

reuse the plastic netting bag that avocados come in!

The produce netting bags that citrus and avocados come in are strong and flexible,

making them an ideal material to support your flower stems and

saves you the step of taping off a grid pattern on your vase.

Cut the netting to size to fit the top of your small vase.

I used wide clear packing tape which makes it quick and easy to

secure the slippery netting to the vase. Tape the netting to the sides of vase,

stretching it to keep it tight as you tape.

The tighter the netting is, the more support the flowers stems will have.

Use the green candy of your choice, filling in between the walls of your vases

as decoration and to conceal your flower stems. Add water to your taped vase

and then your flowers, using the grid to arrange and support your stems.

Daisies and mums are easier to arrange through the netting if you cut them apart.

 Place your vases on a clear plate or platter and add more candy

to create the brim of your leprechaun hat and edible centerpiece!
