Happy Sunday!

Here’s a little weekend waterview from Lake Norman.

We’re off to a chilly start here this morning with temperatures more typical of late

January than early April in North Carolina.

We’ll be warming up to high 60s this afternoon but with a dip into the low 30s overnight,

I’m keeping my fingers crossed that the Snowball Viburnums didn’t get frost nipped!

It’s been a blustery week with 20 – 30 mph hour wind gusts. . . less than

ideal conditions for allergy sufferers with the all the pollen in the air . . .

*achoo*

The wind blew about a third of the snowball blooms blown off the tree. . .

the first time I’d seen that happen!

A Tree Swallow took up residence in one of our birdhouses by the water.

It’s the first time seeing them nest there as it’s usually occupied by Bluebirds.

The azaleas are blooming in waves. . .

If they weren’t zapped by the cold temperatures overnight,

70 and 80 degree temps by mid week should coax the rest into blooming.

Mary, Good morning. Hope like you that the garden didn’t suffer any damage from the chilly temps. We will be much warmer this week and I think my viburnums were not open enough to be affected. Just got an order of caladiums and alocasias but will have to wait a bit till I can plant them. One good thing, about the cooler weather ,it has let my Tulips blooms last longer. Think I will cut some for a bouquet this morning. Have a beautiful Easter and as always thankyou for all the lovely photos and inspiring ideas.

We, too, have had below average temps and a lot of wind. Still, I think spring is the prettiest season. I put up our hummingbird feeder earlier this past week, and we had our first hummingbird of the season yesterday – so colorful and very hungry! I always enjoy your photos, Mary. Thank you for sharing. Easter blessings to you and your family.

Mary, I always love weekend water views. We took a day trip Sunday and enjoyed a nice warm 80 degree day after 30 degree nights this past week. Your blooms are gorgeous! Everyone in the south, it seems, has had their blooms nipped this year due to the erratic weather. We’re far enough north that not everything was affected but it is distressing to see such lovely blooms affected. How is your big tree doing? Did it survive the winter storms and spring winds? I hope so! It’s such a pretty tree. We lost a big, tall old oak and many mature pine tree limbs in the ice storms. It’s sad when you lose something that has provided such beauty for so many decades. I always enjoy your beautiful landscaping, especially in the spring. Enjoy your week! Clara❤️

Hi Clara, So glad you could get away even for a day trip! The weather has definitely been like a roller coaster ride this spring, more so than in recent years. I was comparing photos of our azaleas and even the leaves on the trees and we’re several weeks behind from where we usually are. We were thrilled to see some spring growth on our maple tree but it looks like the very top and main trunk may not survive. We’re keeping our fingers crossed as it will impact our landscape and we’ll lose our only shade. Thank your for visit and always sweet comments. Hope you’re warming up like we are this week. ♥

Beautiful views, Mary! We did have frost this morning. Time will tell how much it impacted blooms, especially our Kwanzan cherry tree that was just beginning to bloom.

    Happy Sunday!

We have had the same up and down weather and the past few days have been very windy here too…Mother Nature can be quite a tease! I hope your remaining snowball viburnums aren’t affected…I was tempted to plant flowers this weekend, but I think I will wait another week or so…by the way, I bought some tulips early last week and I swear they have grown over 6 inches since I put them in a vase, I think of all your tulip tips every time I see them, such amazing flowers!

Yes. we can hardly believe Easter is next weekend! Seems too soon but the calendar says otherwise. Our blue colored birds are blue jays which are super aggressive. We had a pair of bluebirds “dive bomb” our cat when he snoozed outside. That didn’t last long when the cat “faked” sleeping and got a good swat at one of them! The other aggressive flying creature we have are hummingbirds! I always know when I’m too close to a nest as they fly and hang about 2 feet from my face! Happy Sunday Mary!

As always, your photos are gorgeous, Mary. Love your Snowball bush. Do not think it will fare well here in the desert. We have been having up and down weather here too. Was in the 90s last week, and now down to the 60s starting tomorrow. Nights, of course, will be much colder too. Have a wonderful week and a very Happy Easter.

Mary, I love your waterview series, your photos are always so beautiful. I was worried about our colder temps this morning too but nothing seems to have suffered unlike a month ago when we dipped into the 20s. Wishing you a wonderful week ahead. 🌺🌞💕

Here in Plymouth, MA. it is still to0 early even for Azaleas to bloom but there is warmer weather promised for this week, The squirrels are already eating the blossoms on my viburnum and it isn’t evven close to bloosming, Yet. Looks like another year with no blossoms! Hard to compete with wild life!

Good morning, Mary! It’s been soooo windy here, too, but not low temperatures like you’ve had. What fun to see a tree swallow at your birdhouse. I’ve never seen one of those. I hope you have a wonderful Easter week. Yes, I agree, I can’t believe it’s here already! 🐰🌷🐰

Oh so gorgeous… I have 8 snowballs, they were loaded with green balls, in one night deer ate every single one, which explains why I never see white! took years to learn this… In other words I’m jealous 😉

Oh my! How lovely! Beautiful blooms and by the water too! Just a feast for the eyes. Today was thrilling, got up to 66 and sunny so off came the tarps which were over the picnic table and chairs and I started hauling out hoses and yard items. So happy to be out in the shed. If our weather holds, before more rain, I will be bringing out the statues and other items. What fun to finish sweeping out the shed and enjoying putzing! Hello Spring, so glad you are finally here! 🦋🥀
