This week is designated as “National Flag Week”,

a week-long observance celebrating the creation of the United States Flag,

so the Stars and Stripes are the guests of honor today!

June 14th, Flag Day, commemorates the adoption of the U.S. flag,

paying tribute to the banner that waves above us all.

Old Glory’s official history dates back to June 14, 1777,

when the Second Continental Congress passed a resolution

establishing America’s banner.

The U.S. flag has gone through an evolution of 26 changes before it became the iconic symbol

that it is today, proudly flying with 13 stripes and 50 stars,

to represent the original 13 colonies and all 50 states.

Liberty Blue dinnerware was created by Enoch Wedgwood Company,

in the historic Staffordshire district of England.

It was designed on behalf of Benjamin Franklin Federal Savings and Loan,

as a promotional item in commemoration of the company’s 50th anniversary in 1975,

and in celebration of the American Bicentennial in 1976.

were used on the Liberty Blue dinnerware.

where both the United States Declaration of Independence

and the United States Constitution were debated and adopted.

This is an easy napkin fold to form a pocket for flatware!

DIY Pocket Napkin Fold Tutorial #patriotic #tablescape #redwhiteandblue #hydrangeas #4thofjuly #flags ©homeiswheretheboatis.net

Here are the easy steps:

  1. Start with a square napkin, right side facing up. Press with an iron to remove any wrinkles.
  2. Fold your napkin in half with the fold at the bottom and opening at the top.
  3. Take the top edge and fold it half way down to meet the bottom edge; this will become your pocket. Press with an iron to give the pocket a crisp edge.
  4. Flip your napkin over.
  5. Find the center of your napkin. Take both the right edge and left edge of your napkin and fold them so they meet in the middle
  6. Fold the left side over on top of the right; adjust folds if needed so the bottom edges line up. Press with your iron so your finished napkin pocket is crisp.
  7. Place flatware in pocket.

DIY Patriotic Cones are as fun make as they are to receive and

or takeaway for your guests!

Patriotic Party Favor Cones are affordable to make and start with scrapbook paper!

You can buy scrapbook paper by the single sheet at the craft store or in

Patriotic Scrapbook Paper Pads.

I’ve made these cones for Easter, Halloween and Friendsgiving

and they’re fun to create for any holiday, birthday or celebration!

I used 12 x 12-inch scrapbook paper from a pad I found at Hobby Lobby several years ago.

 DIY Patriotic Party Favor Cones #patriotic #tablescape #redwhiteandblue #4thofjuly #flags ©homeiswheretheboatis.net

To begin, I cut my paper into 8 x 8-inch squares.

Note: If you want a pattern on the inside of your cones, use double-sided scrapbook paper

or glue a 4 x 8-inch piece of paper to the back of the 8 x 8 piece of paper with a glue stick.

 DIY Patriotic Party Favor Cones #patriotic #tablescape #redwhiteandblue #4thofjuly #flags ©homeiswheretheboatis.net

Roll your 8″ square of scrapbook paper into a cone, overlapping the edges slightly;

use a binder clip to keep your paper in a cone shape.

I used a hot glue gun to glue the paper edges as it dries almost instantly.

After the cones were glued together, I ran a bead of glue down the front seam

to attach some decorative trim which also helps conceal any extra glue

that might show on the seam of your cone.

Use the ribbon, decorative braid or trim of your choice.

 DIY Patriotic Party Favor Cones #patriotic #tablescape #redwhiteandblue #4thofjuly #flags ©homeiswheretheboatis.net

In addition to the scrapbook paper, I used some patriotic tinsel garland from Dollar Tree,

silver chenille stems, silver tinsel ribbon, leftover cupcake picks and

patriotic three-dimensional scrapbook stickers I found at Michaels several years ago.

Use a hole punch on the sides of your cone and thread a chenille stem through the holes,

wrapping the ends to secure it.

Fans, sparklers, straws, bubble wands and Hersey's Stars & Stripes Kisses for DIY Patriotic Party Favor Cones #patriotic #tablescape #redwhiteandblue #4thofjuly #flags ©homeiswheretheboatis.net

Now for the fun part:

Add some paper shred to your cones and fill them with the goodies of your choice!

I shopped Dollar Tree and Target Dollar Spot

for patriotic bubble wands, straws, sparklers and paper fans.

I added some Hersey’s Kisses wrapped in patriotic stars and stripes foil wrappers.

Good morning, Mary! Our flag never looked so good as you’ve represented here on this tablescape! Your party cones and all the contents are fun and festive, but what really catches my eyes is the way you’ve layered that striped runner and pocket fold napkins on the paisley tablecloth. That’s a stunner! And the reddest of red alstromeria is beautifully tucked in among the hydrangeas. Lucky you to have found that set of Johnson Bros salads to go with the Wedgwood dinner plates. (Do you have all 15 scenes of that set?) It’s a beautiful setting by your lake, an enviable one, but I’ll enjoy my virtual presence in this moment. Thank you for sharing your talent in this hop, Mary!

Your table is stunning, as always, Mary!!! I love every little detail!! What a fun find of this postcards! I have the book but didn’t know about the cards. I can’t wait to check those out. Happy Celebrating! -Jennifer

Good morning, Mary! I am so happy to celebrate Old Glory and long may she wave 🇺🇸 Your table setting next to the lake is a beautiful welcome to the summer season and Independence Day. The paisley cloth and striped runner are perfect for a patriotic tabletop. I love the transferware… Liberty Blue and Johnson Bros. Historic America. What a great find on the salad plates! The red, white, and blue flowers add more patriotic touches. Thanks for including the pocket napkin fold tutorial. Of course, the patriotic cones are a wonderful party favor and decoration on the plate stack. I should make those for our grands, they would love it!

As always, it is a thrill to join you for tabletop inspiration 🇺🇸❤️🇺🇸🤍🇺🇸💙🇺🇸

I love your table by the lake….must be a wonderful place to eat and relax. The dishes are amazing. If you love history and haven’t seen the Liberty Bell and Betsy Ross’ house in Philadelphia, they are worth the trip. I have small July 4th packages to mail to the out of state grands and the patriotic cones will be fun to add…just no chocolate in this heat🤪. Thanks for the ideas and inspiring pictures. Peace.

Good Morning Mary! I always enjoy it when you set the table by the lake. The view is incredible, and so is your table.
Thank you for sharing the pocket fold for the napkin. I love it.
The paisley tablecloth and striped runner go perfectly together. But your centerpieces take center stage along with the transferware. Liberty Blue and Johnson Bros. Historic America are suitable for red, white, and blue.
Another inspirational post! Thank you, Mary!

Hey Mary….beautiful table display of our red, white and blue. Love it!!! And I love the Staffordshire Liberty Blue plates. I have a complete set of them also and I find them always a great table topic with guests. I also appreciate the how-to on the napkin pocket fold…I will be using that very soon. There is something about alfresco by the water…it makes whatever you are eating special and that reminds me to also thank you for the recipes. I have noted the cones and wished I had seen those when I was working on my May Day baskets. I keep thinking some of us have got to keep the old traditions alive as soon no one will remember the fun we had as kids running door to door of our friends and neighbors…ringing their doorbells than hiding as they retrieved their May Baskets with special treats and flowers.
Right now it is raining here in SW Florida and I have to admit I am loving it.
Have a great and wonderful summer in your lovely home by the lake.

Cheers to the red, white and blue! Your lakeside setting is always so pretty and I love the way you layered the runner on the paisley tablecloth Mary. Your transferware collections are so special and perfect for our patriotic holidays. The hydrangeas are gorgeous and look so pretty in the transferware pitchers. The napkin fold for holding the flatware is so clever and the festive party cones full of treats are such a fun party favor. Happy Flag Day and God Bless America!

I appreciate so much the items you highlight that can be found on Amazon! I have quite a wishlist of your pretties!!

What a fun table for the Fourth of July! As a Canadian, and one who does love our flag, I am always a little envious that you have blue thrown into the mix. It makes for such a festive display. First, I love the view from the table. I could sit for hours. Everything from the layered linens to the stunning place settings are so fun and festive. I love how elegant it all is. Thank you for sharing the tutorial for the napkin pocket fold! That is one I will be using. And, the cone filled with patriotic goodies I am sure will put a smile on everyone’s face! Cute idea! Happy Flag Day!

Mary, It is always a celebration at your table. I am pleasantly surprised to see how the striped runner on blue and white paisley tablecloth was a beautiful foundation for the entire vintage themed decor. The transferware really sets the feel along with the party cones filled with wonderful delights. It is certainly an honor and tribute to our flag and the day’s celebration. I love the blue floral centerpiece with your hydrangeas. (I have been hinting at planting one myself.) They always are ones to grab attention.) You have a beautiful setting to showcase your classic tablescape that celebrates our nation. Happy summer!

Great textures! Love the plate stack, the flatware, and on and on. Long May She Wave is one of my most favorite books. I was fortunate to see the original exhibit of this collection when in NYC for the 4th of July 2000. I also have the box of the postcards. Thanks for all the inspiration.
