I found some silverplate pieces thrifting~ a few trays, a mismatched coffee server and some stray cream & sugars~
Tarnished and a few pieces pitted and scratched~
ideal for a little project for our feathered friends.
I had a little tabletop fun celebrating their faded glory before I decided to give them a new life and repurpose as feeders.
I bought 1/2 inch copper pipe at Lowe’s~ 10 feet for $10.42. I used a tool my husband had, similar to this one, that cuts by scoring the pipe and is easy to use, cutting the pipe into 3 different lengths.
A hole drilled in the bottom of the teapot allows the seed to dispense and makes for a self-serve feeder ~
I used 1/2″ copper caps (75 cents) and a couple of washers (13 cents) so there was a little more surface area to glue the cap to the bottom of the tray and cream & sugar.

Very cleaver Mary. We did this a couple of years ago with china tea cups and saucers, but I love this idea so much better. Especially the teapot feeder…love it!

These are lovely! I used to have something similar, made of copper, the only challenge was that when it rained, it filled with water and the seed got moldy. If you haven’t already, you may want to drill a couple of small holes so the water will drain out.
We have lots of squirrels around and they would crash the party. I love the idea of using the tea set but the squirrels would be a problem. Anyone have any suggestions to discourage the squirrels?
Squirrels do not like safflower seed!!

Our seed gets gone so quickly between the birds and the squirrels, I usually fill them everyday. Any accumulated water I empty if it’s been raining. You could always drill a few holes in the bottoms for drainage.
I love these, so cute and clever of you. I just bought some bird seed yesterday and now I need to come up with a clever feeder. Thanks for sharing and for the tutorial.
Your birds are so lucky to dine in such style! Sadly, I have to put baffles over my bird feeders so the squirrels don’t eat all the seed in one meal. They get plenty that falls on the ground anyway :) I love your beautiful idea though!

How perfectly delightful. I’m sure the little birds will enjoy the seeds served up to them in silverware. I just hope you don’t feed them lavender seeds, as they will become quite intoxicated and go on to lead wicked, wasteful lives of lechery and gambling. Sunflower seeds will ensure they grow up to be righteous, god-fearing birds.
You can keep the birdseed from sprouting when it hits the ground by microwaving the batch for about 2 1/2 minutes. Then allow to cool; then add to feeder. No more weeds.

Super cute idea! I have a china bowl I set up this way. I use it to hold water. The silver pieces are cute and the unusual shapes offer some whimsy- love it!
